The first one comes out weird

Children, pancakes, needlework
An initial draft, a first book
It’s no surprise they came out weird
No matter what pains you took

The first one is the practice one
You need it, to make a start
It’s okay, it won’t be perfect;
We weren’t expecting a work of art

It’ll be squiggly around the edges
Details not well defined
Awkward, clunky, unpolished
Scruffy and unrefined

If you haven’t got the knack yet
It’s understandable, you’re new
You’re learning how to unlock your skills;
What you should and shouldn’t do

You have to make the cringey first one
So your deftness can grow wild
The next attempt will be infinitely better

 your output
                 to the universe
             comes back to you
     like a "Return to Sender" mail.

              if you treat people
  with utmost respect and dignity,
              they'll reciprocate;
         treasure in, treasure out.

           the same can be said
               of maltreatment,
        it's always repaid in kind;
         garbage in, garbage out.

                 it's a fair trade,
                    every time.
       in this cruel, savage world,
 sprinkle in a handful of tenderness.

         one is infinitely better off
               trading meanness
                   with kindness.
            it's much easier being...

             a good human being.
           it's far from expensive;
               buy into it, it costs
                less than a penny!

Awakening Words

I
Aw (OR: Ahhhh!)
Ake ( ache?)
A W  A K E
- not a Wake, infinitely better -
awake again this day, a miracle! O gratitude
Awaking (a choice to make)
Repeat the past, Recycle Me, or At Last
Recall Living Words
II

Awaking each day. Stop recycling away
Especially hurts. Words like swords.
Say:
I thank the Universe
In halting prayers or living Verse
To wake up is simply an Awakening
This should be happening
Each time we are born again from naps
Jesus: You have changed me: With me in the gaps

III
The great choice before us each day
Is to begin with "I Pray -
I will be grateful today
No one owes me this 24-hour New Day
Addictions, old worries. Away!
Words of Life, think them, not of yesterday
The Universe is waiting to blow us away" shalom shalom
