The chilled whisper of the northern wind
floats in frozen air with the finesse of ballerina snowflakes,
attuned to the rustle of the frosted leaves inertly aligned,
serenading the mystique melody, winter sonata makes.
Defoliated trees tremble in the waves of the arctic breeze,
in its frosty flow from the cold oblivion I see you return,
melt the miasma in my memory congealed in glacial freeze,
enter the abandoned abode of our ancient times we yearn.
I’m enticed by the spectrum of the scarlet sun on diamond dew,
my passion prism reflects for me your charisma ecstatic.
As from the mist of reminiscence rises the dawn new,
your euphoric embrace defrosts the memory lane as winter magic.

There was a day set aside for the wedding
but the groom was very much dreading
it would be the same day
his grand final would play
and that’s where it looked it was heading
Alas his worst fears came true
So what was he s’posed to do?
Change the date
he’d marry his mate
or send a substitute to say “I do”?
Of course, that could be done covertly
The team had done it before with Curtley
but if the bride found out
she’d give him a clout
and the next month he’d spend inertly
So I hope we have the real groom today –
shame on his mates for staying away
but he stayed away too
when best man for Stew
and the ladies can still throw the bouquet
The bride is also very fond of her sport
loving a good tussle on field and on court
It’s clear and plain
she knows Glen’s pain
and she’s the kind and compassionate sort
This wedding’s been the perfect storm
The bride’s team’s in awesome form
Today’s their final too
So what’s Jane s'posed to do?
Miss it, or follow the wedding norm?
I’m sorry the groom’s grumpy and pre-occupied
but the final’s on now and he’s not in the side
but Jane empathizes
with his sacrifices
having hired a substitute bride!

TAWNY PERIL!
Grasping at a fair mistake
Grinding to a dusty fate
Guarding Heaven at the gate
To gaping aspiration
CLINGING LIE!
Inertly you ignore my plea
Cloud each endeavour heedlessly
Refuse to set my pale mote free
To certain consummation
DUSTY TERMINATOR!
I know some demon dispossessed
Habituates your grainy depths
To cause me unrelenting stress
To rob me of my sure success
To terminate my swift progress
And mock me … for I am obsessed
With this infatuation
But suddenly … on some caprice
At last you tender your release
But …
Inexpedient to the end
To gritty Hell I’ll redescend
Dishevelment I must attend
While philosophically I’ll emend
Ignoble degradation

What if the journey ends before it’s over
a lessening of purpose with each stride
slowing as the burdens slowly shift
fading in the distance growing close.
When will the trails no longer beckon
soft dusty boots remain beside the door
old hats hang limply in the shadows
inertly beckoning an old man’s gait.
What is the treason of this aging
this slow erosion of a once proud state
perhaps it bids me slowly to acceptance
that every season has its resting place.
Wisdom, you have been a long sought quarry,
a slippery elm impossible to climb
as if the troubled trails that I have traveled
were more about your quest than mine.
Come, rest with me upon a fleeting moment
tell me of your journey’s lessons taught
and I will in comparison inform you
of what I think life is, and what it’s not.

Beyond
These trivial pursuits
The day looms long,
Largely unused, unplanned,
Promising unimportant
Activities.
Anticipating alternatives,
Inertly I idle,
Mind meandering meaninglessly,
Mildly morose,
Diffident, diffuse,
And aimless.
