Memories tattoo my brain like an artist
I miss loved ones passed and the last
Time I saw each one is frozen
Like icicle tears swelling brown eyes
Last time I saw her alive she
Was full of joy eating favorite foods
Planning her life despite breast cancer
Nothing stopped her from dreaming
Not even death
Final time I saw him in Atlanta
It was summer and he was smiling
Carrying his first grandson on
His shoulders piggy back style
Definitely proud
And so many more I hold on shores
Of happiness and gratitude for
I know love outruns death
I know somehow they are better
Where they are now in heaven

icicles dripping water in the sunshine
watching her sleep soundly as the sun slowly sets
i wish this impromptu trip's feeling would last forever
in life sometimes, all we get is what we get
icicles dripping water in the sunshine
watching the small waves try to decide whether or not to crash
i take in what will, in the future, be a moment all but forgotten
in life sometimes, all we get is what we get
icicles dripping water in the sunshine
hearing her wake up as she stretches and makes just-woke-up faces
i smile and say 'good morning' as she slowly makes her way to the bathroom
in life sometimes, all we get is what we get
icicles dripping water in the sunshine
hearing her slow, lazy footsteps make their way towards me
with a sleepyhead kiss, we hold each other watching the sun finish setting
in life sometimes, all we get is what we get
icicles dripping water in the sunshine
sweet december morning for minds to quickly change
without asking, we simultaneously decide to take a quick walk and stay in for the day
in life sometimes, what we get must be treasured in as many possible ways

I’m watching the icicles dripping,
Reminded of ten years ago,
When I held up my grandson to watch them,
All the things then that I couldn’t know.
How he’d soak up so much he was learning
And prove to be clever and smart;
How his joy in our moments together
Would tattoo him right onto my heart.
How he’d love to hear all kinds of music
And would shine when he played the trombone;
How his passion for reading and language,
Which we’d shared, he’d continue alone.
How some interests would serve to sustain him -
New cuisines, tech advances and school,
While some others would fall by the wayside -
Making maps, which were detailed and cool.
There will be so much more in the future
That his mind will grab onto and hold,
But when we watched the icicles dripping,
So much living had yet to unfold.

It’s cold
It snowed
I shivered
I shoveled
A Solstice sun
Silently smirked
Iridescent icicles
Licked their lips
A crunch of crusted snow
Battled the scritch of shovels
Headless snowmen
Wandered in wonder
I shoveled
I shivered
It snowed
It’s cold

icicles on gutters
glisten in light
of early morning
reflections of sun
when sitting alone
my dreams of spring

Drip drip go the icicles,
Hanging from the frozen gutter,
Plinking off the bicycles,
Falling with a splutter.
Blip blip go the icicles,
Dripping from their glassy towers,
Twinkling in their endless cycles,
Melting in icy showers.
Crik crik go the icicles,
Freezing in the darkened hours,
Growing beards in icy cycles,
Til come the springtime flowers.
Warmer breezes melting snow,
‘Way goes winter’s chilly freeze,
Dripping go the icicles,
Up white snowdrop petals squeeze.

*Sorry the photo is so blurry. When I upload my own, it ends up that way.
icicles hanging
pointing downward to the source
clarity expands
