No Expectations

Can a song be so sad it becomes beautiful?

A record listened to with such incessance
Its needle scratches and wobbles
Becomes desperate new notes for the melody?
The song unrecognizable to the listener
Without its own personalized warp
From a thousand roundabout journeys?

Try
Hurrah For The Riff Raff’s Good Time Blues (An Outlaw’s Lament)
Or their Ogallala
Try on Steve Earle’s Last Words
Or St. Vincent’s Smoking Section

All these songs make me turn my head
And cry
When I’m around others
Otherwise if I’m all alone
I stare ahead in stoned silence

No Expectations is another

Mick and Keith say that day in the studio
Was the last time
They ever saw blurry-eyed original Brian Jones
Alive

Bent over his guitar with his steel finger slide
Finding and gliding his long long regrets
Up and down his bent strings
As the boy watched his peace of mind packed up
For the last time

Adding his own final warped words
From a piece of steel to carved hollow wood
His swan song for the Stones
That Keith and Mick thought they wrote

Made his own

Immortal
And beautiful.

Premium Member Election Day - Hurray

Tomorrow is Election Day
    Hurray!
  No more attack ads
  An end to hyperbolae
    and unproven accusations...

We'll throw out a few bums
  Elect some new ones
  Two years later ~
They'll all beat the same drums

Hip, Hip, Hurray!

January 1 is New Year's Day!
Is it special in any form or way?

Is there anything special in the Heavens to see?
--Not there that I know of, or under the sea.

The day is not marked by significant event;
Not by Christmas, or Easter, or the Six Weeks of Lent.

Yet perhaps we've a 'clean slate' at the start of the year?
Tell me: Does yesterday's baggage poof! disappear?

And is everything really so new and so fresh?
Did we empty and burn all of last year's trash?

Now, the Chinese and Jewish New Years have real meaning;
But January 1, alas, seems a tad overweening.

--Oh, hang all this negativity! Enough of this rot!
I'm goin' out New Year's Eve; January 1's all I've got!

Hurray Library

Look inside the box
Find the sound that knocks

Like the wave when it crashes
Like the lightning when it flashes

You can't hold it,
but you can get it

Get to know what's there
Bring it out, bring it here

Endlessly, effortlessly
Keep working like a bee
Keep trying, you'll see,

A marvelous light
A treasure of day and night

Here is the box
Here; stay some BOOKS!

Bring them to Life
Bring life to Life

Feed your soul
Spread them all

Get out from your bubble
Find someone to cuddle
Like a nightingale

Tweet and fly,
Share your joy with the sky
Hurray!
It is simple
