Premium MemberBlizzard Is Coming

Blizzard is coming
Hailstorm is drumming
How we longed to be wetter.
We’ve been in a drought
We prayed the calm out
Now comes turbulent weather.

Batten the hatches
Prepare the caches
White rage threatens our safety.
Will eating snow bursts
Appease our mad thirst?
Freezing adds to the crazy.

Family

When winds are rough,
And tear at hopes and dreams
When days are dark, and nights are tough,
And over-long, it seems
When bitter clouds collect above,
And ache and break and pour
We'll batten down the hatches,
Just like we did before.
You see, to me - we're made to last;
To wait, contented, warm;
To stand and know the past has passed.
For now, it's just a storm.
If you should fray, or fall apart,
In any where or when
We’ll always try, with all our heart,
To make you whole again.
But if you do fall behind,
And break and shake to bits
The day will come where you will find,
The pieces still all fit.
That's quite enough of strain and strife,
And painful days, astray.
This isn't at all funny, life.
Enough for now, okay?

Are all Numbers Dead

Are all numbers dead?

He was one in a million.
So were his followers.
So was his smile.

Are all numbers dead?

The war killed a million
Millions displaced.
And millions in fund.

Are all numbers dead?
She earned a million,
singing to millions
and signed million-dollar contract.

Are all numbers dead?

They dream in millions,
play millionaire games,
live like fake millionaires.

Are all numbers dead?

A million miles away
a million stars to
fulfill million wishes.

Are all numbers dead?

A million tasks
a million hopes stacked
in a million to one chance

Are all numbers dead?
yes, in the numerical graveyard.

One died of invisibility
Ten died of thrifting
Hundred died of haggling
Thousand died of tallying.

Numbers died naturally
but million survived as illusion.

Now, million is a minion,
servant of spectacle,
puppet of praise,
mascot of myth.
It lays eggs in contracts.
hatches headlines.

But one day it will limp
its way to necropolis of numbers,
in the shadow of zero.

Premium MemberMantenna

Lately my mantenna are twitching more than usual folks
the prophecies are surely uncloaking
time to batten down the hatches
the second flood is lapping on the doorstep
clutch your loved ones to your chest
Its nearly midnight, the world is on full tilt
nuclear pinballs ricochetting off
bent flippers of black hearted madmen
They will not lead into battle
they'll just push a button to begin the cleanse
They want to speed up the blender of Armageddon
In the meantime, enjoy the day
have a lick of your favorite ice cream
watch the fireworks display
God bless, most of us anyway.

Blueprint

They handed me a body like a floorplan—
no doors, only expectations.
I built escape hatches out of music,
poured windows from ink.
Now I live in my edits,
rewriting the roof.

Purpose is at the core of your soul,
knowing what you are going to do
It aligns with all that you are
and hatches from what you believe

Premium MemberThe Butterfly

As she drinks nectar from a flower, sweetness from heaven falls like dew
anointed with a gentle rain amidst sun showers she appears as if on cue

Lifting her wings she lands on a Zinnia beneath a tinted sky of April blue
flight of fancy fanning fast, fabulous marvel, she is beauty true on true

I'm in awe of such natural beauty, her wings resemble church stained glass
I've been captivated by the butterflies lifecycle ever since I was a lass

An egg hatches into a wriggly caterpillar, which munches foliage but that's fine
it transforms into a chrysalis, emerging as a butterfly in the sky and looks divine!

Premium MemberWindblown Rhapsody

(To be sang to the tune of
  "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen)

Here's a wee warning.
Eowyn is on his way.
He'll blast round the UK.
So now batten down the hatches.
Lock up your house.
Close all curtains now
And hide!

We are just human.
They are the elements...

Dark clouded skies
Wind is strong
Rain will batter
All day long.
We need our shelter
Coz otherwise we'll all be blown away!
Like debris.

Warning!
There's a red alert.
All the gusts that travel past
May be a hundred miles fast.
Warning!
Pets need protection.
We don't want our animals to fly!

Hours!
That's how long.
There will be damage.
Be aware that fences aren't as rooted as trees!

Make sure you stay inside.
Any trips can wait.
Make sure you stay inside.
Snuggle up, keep cozy -
Stay safe!

Life’s Repetition of rinse and repeat:

Life’s Repetition of rinse and repeat:
Saga, the odyssey
 lies
And deceit.
Juliet’s drowning upon daggers blade in
Response to a Romeo’s lethal swallow.
The need be not the chasing down of serpentine sleuthing out the whys they bit you..
But the how so to heal oneself from poisons onset.
Cause the effect.
Effect the cause.
Alterations of souls allegiances.
Whom wages the war upon one’s self
Loses all in either outcome.
Close the gate,
Button down the hatches
Night draws near.
Light the lamps for shadows creep.
Let illumination run deep..
Burn out yesterday’s fabled ways.
Upon pages of white begin anew.
“Lord what fools these mortals be”
This said by Shakespeare and not by me.
Instead mirror thought of phrase as “idiocracy pains the existence of man”.
Overcome..undone
Underwhelmed..overburdened.
Buried in minds sea
Drowning in muddy thoughts.

Stormy Weather

As howling winds whip up the sea,
and foamy waves crash on the beach.
Autumn storms begin to speak
The summer sun is out of reach.

There’s lashing rain and darkened skies
It’s time to sit by the fireside
With shorter days and longer nights
Batten the hatches and prepare to hide!

Premium MemberShut Up!

Shut Up!

Shut up the hurricane shutters!
There's a storm that is ready to blow.
Batten down all the hatches!
Mother nature is angry, don't you know?

There's a man on the watch tower
and he's signalling to the boats in the harbor.
There are squalls on the horizon,
and he doesn't want you to go.

Keep your prayers close beside you.
Keep your loved ones by your side.
Settle all scores that divide you.
Pray for forgiveness, and for strength to abide.

Paint the front doors that judgement pass over.
Burn the candles that welcomes the Prince of Peace.
You can see the four horsemen come riding.
There is no shelter from His wrath to hide.

The mockers will taunt you,
   as Noah had to endure.
Your obedience is your love,
and in faith, your salvation is assured.

When finally the seas die back.
And the armies of evil are drowned in the murk,
A ray of light like a dove will descend on you,
and everlasting paradise will be secured.

Covid

United Kingdom
running behind in the tall grass
like a mongoose slithering for a cobra
The untested came into the care homes
No mind
we've battered down the hatches
We should be normal
Back to normal soon

Off the Button

Within the hurricane report,
Of which I just heard snatches,
A person on the radio said,
“Button down the hatches!”

So many people get things wrong
When idioms are used
And it is understandable
For folks to be confused.

But “buttoning the hatches”
Wouldn’t help one to protect
Either property or relatives,
At least last time I checked.

Premium MemberEmpty Nest

Education came as an excuse for departure,
You went away, full of smiles, as a marcher;
As though out of sight was the only reason,
My heart played a drastic treason;
It stopped pumping; I stood as though dead,
Your mom fainted out of dread;
There started our agony and anxiety,
Stealing from us our normal gaiety;
Long phone conversation is not helping,
As at this empty nest, our hatchling is not chirping;
Distress and depression have come to stay,
Living with grief, each day has been our way;
Have you prepared yourself for staying alone?
Is self-cooking you now known?
A feeling of purposelessness hatches plans,
Letting go - has gone out of my hands;
I know your absence is not eternal,
Yet, silence in your room seems abnormal;
Come back as fast as you can, that's what I say,
Till then, for your happiness, daily I do pray...!

Premium MemberSounds

There were evenings
when you could hear - way off -
tugboats signaling to each other
with short blasts
from their horn
as they pushed and nudged
a ship into port.
Or the rumble and clang
of hatches closing
over cavernous holds
at the end of a night shift.
And occasionally a siren wailing
as if some unfathomable grief
was being hauled
raw and naked
along indifferent streets.

Then all would contract
to whispers and scratchings
on the walls of a fevered brain
as if someone or something
was trying to get in,
held back by a breathless pause
to magnify and be given a name,
lest squeezed shapeless
through the narrow opening
of an ear
to fester and inflame.
