Empty Nest

Education came as an excuse for departure, You went away, full of smiles, as a marcher; As though out of sight was the only reason, My heart played a drastic treason; It stopped pumping; I stood as though dead, Your mom fainted out of dread; There started our agony and anxiety, Stealing from us our normal gaiety; Long phone conversation is not helping, As at this empty nest, our hatchling is not chirping; Distress and depression have come to stay, Living with grief, each day has been our way; Have you prepared yourself for staying alone? Is self-cooking you now known? A feeling of purposelessness hatches plans, Letting go - has gone out of my hands; I know your absence is not eternal, Yet, silence in your room seems abnormal; Come back as fast as you can, that's what I say, Till then, for your happiness, daily I do pray...! 07 May 2023 Empty Nest Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Cooper Etheridge

Very well penned! There is indeed a sense that letting go is out of our hands. So many true lines. Best wishes, Brian

A wonderful poem you've written my dear poet friend Chris. You portrayed so well and very creatively the usual scenario after parents had sent their children to school. Joy is felt for success and so much sadness when they left. The last lines are so heartwarming and sweet. I love your poem. Thanks for sharing Best wishes in the contest my dear friend. Hugs
