Hangouts Poems | Examples

Kensington Avenue, Philadelphia

Where is this? Are we on Mars?
America – just count the stores,
capitalist carnivores.
That so-familiar movie score,
the swish of passing cars.

The city built on Brotherly Love
(Wells Fargo, Fitch and Abercrombie)
at the mercy of Pam Bondi
- was that a person, or a zombie? –
What was Madison thinking of?

Car’s no use: no place to park it.
Arrested at a funeral home.
No gravel pits, no air, no loam
- eat your heart out, Kristi Noem
(Checks Cashed Here, Medina Market)

Can this be noon? It feels like night.
What are these groupings? Hangouts? Dives?
They’re ganglions? They’re human hives?
Squandered talent, wasted lives.
Subway line blocks out the light.

Sidewalk garbage. Mostly men.
That hokey old verbal agility,
“insure domestic tranquillity”
correctional facility
for the heirs of William Penn.

Human beings are detritus
(Lifetime Nails, Olympic Sports):
To clean it up, we use the courts
Perhaps we ought to build more forts
- and thus our id comes back to bite us.

Piece of Peace

*Piece of peace*

When it's a really tiring day,
When you have almost nothing to say,
What's to be done for an ease?
Just follow my way, of getting a piece of peace...

I closed my eyes and recollected,
The beautiful moments, in which I invested,
My short vacay with mom and dad,
A birthday surprise that made me glad...

Some fun hangouts with friends,
Many fun family gatherings which had no end...
Many endless funny talks..
Many more beautiful long walks...

I was mesmerized by my sweet past,
15 minutes, seemed somewhat lost...
When I opened my eyes, I realized..
How happily did I live my life....

It just refreshed me off, from the day
And again, I had nothing to say....
But now I had a smile on my face and my mind was at ease....
Coz I found myself, a piece of peace ?.....

Unshakable

Through Covid-19, school closings and quarantines
Online learning, Google Hangouts, Shelter in place
Missing our students and friends from our work place.
Wondering what will happen next- It’s all so complex.
Tears cried, Lives lost, Birthday drive bys, Virtual Celebrations,
Mask, Gloves bringing heightened considerations
Of Frontline workers,
Lives changed, schedules rearranged,
Social distancing, online worshipping, parking lot services
Six feet apart, air hugs,
Glasses fogged, Hours online logged,
Jobs lost, restaurants closing, Door Dashes, people clashing
Over -“Is it too much –or- Are we doing enough---to stop the spread?
Families staying, at home, praying, people healed, emotions real, movies watched,
Games played, memories made
Through thick and thin from the beginning to the end
For Christ Followers,
Our Faith, our trust, our belief in God
Does NOT Bend!!!
Unfailing, Unwavering, Unshakeable Faith

Premium MemberHalf Moons

In our late teens
We’d all doll up
Half moons at our heels
Spit shined our shoes
Bell bottom pants
Precisely creased
Bright shirts with poofy sleeves
Hitting the snooker halls
And other local hangouts
Smoking cigarettes
So groovy and so cool
Radio blaring from our cars
Chick magnets
Destination
A&W drivethru
Rolled down windows
Waiting for our trays
Burgers and root beer

Dog Days Endure

Dog days endure

The happy summers beneath the turquoise skies
Unclouded sun as blazing chandelier comes to go glorify
Showering rays plentiful than august rains
Blooming bluebells roses in this season beautify

Stretching out for lounging in the pools
As earth's proximity to dog star sirius sucks away the cool
Childhood returns again as ice creams drip down the hand
Long lovely crimson hangouts exciting summer flaunts

Life seems an unending dream lasting forever
Fashionable tans and tank tops fill hearts and eyes with pleasure
Each moment a memory painted in pale canvas of passing life
Enchanting crepuscular rays of warm twilights keep extolling these days enclosure

Premium MemberWednesday, January 27

Wednesday, January 27th,
unseasonably warm by a few degrees
black and white of old snow
and soon to be new trees rest
against smoldering grey clouds.
The “wolfy” wind rests
tired from Tuesday’s “huffing and puffing”.
An urgent stillness greets the silence,
birds warily peer from stilled hangouts,
discarded food wrappers sleep in the alleys,
“Old Glory” hangs listless and burdened,
soft yellow windows blink – focus on the day.
A lone dog barks reclaiming his territory
from the nightly interlopers,
in the distance coyote’s yip
calling the children home to bed.
The old clock ticks as the sun
struggles to disperse the cloudy veil,
filtered light casting no shadows
on the black and white union of grey.

Premium MemberGirls Just Wanna Have Fun

Let’s take out our apron, girls
Jiggle and dance, do sizzling twirls
Long weekday-chores were done
Now, it’s time to have some fun

Leave for a while our weekdays’ trek
Spruce ourselves for longer break
Have a real fantastic party
Forget some worries, be happy

We, all girls just wanna have fun
Have hangouts ‘til the set of sun
We do need relaxation time
Good for our body, beauty and mind

We can go for nightlife
Movie, disco, not on gambling flight
But be good girls, always remember
Nice girls go home beyond wee hours

We, sometimes go on frolic
Forget work schedules, so hectic
Smile and laugh, give ourselves a treat
Forget those boys just a little bit

Boys out there are waiting
Eyes on us while we’re giggling
Leave them all drooling
Once and a while, let’s go shopping

We, all girls just wanna have fun
Have hangout ‘til the set of sun
We all need relaxation time
Good for our body, beauty and mind

The Killers

The killers are not only those who bombed this nation
But also those who knew their hangouts and kept
silence

The killers are not only those who slaughtered
humans
for religion reasons
But also those religion leaders who refused to
condemn
the act

The killers are not only those who imported
weapons of
destruction
But also those pilots, sailors, drivers, custom
officers
who let their palms be greased to let them in; also
those
who made the weapons; also those who sold the
weapons

The killers are not only those who kidnapped
innocent
children and other men's wives
But also those who sponsored the wicked
expenditure

The killers are not only those who disguised as
soldiers to
commit genocide
But also those Generals, Colonel, Lieutenants who let
them had access to the uniform

The killers are not only those who ran away from
their
responsibilities of protecting our lives
But also those who procrastinate or know what to
do
to bring THE KILLERs and their accomplices to book
but
refused to do so.

Dog Patch

He can’t remember a lot of what it used to be like;
And he’s having trouble remembering the sound of the voice
       He’s thought about calling but;
A dime doesn’t make a phone call anymore does it?
Did he ever worry—maybe a couple times when no one was looking;
But mostly he was too busy making sure he was swimming with the tide.
He also tried to make sure he didn’t miss anything
But he seems to have misplaced something’s he didn’t want to lose.
He knew about keeping the dog’s off the door but;
That didn’t work out so well because;
      Now he knows why the coyote never caught up;
He was at one of his old hangouts hoping the fence.

Abuja

Abuja

A city of a thousand hills
Resplendent in beauty
Symbol of a nation's unity
The center of its glory

Basked in the morning light
A vision to behold
Cuddled, the topography
Landscape so alluring

Protected by smouldering rocks
Great and small, ever serene
Concealing the opulence
And might of its power brokers

A city of a thousand networks
Passageways and connections
An undulating cityscape
Where networking has become an art

A city of a thousand gardens
Celebrated for its grandeur hangouts
The skyline, ever bright
You will find your place

Premium MemberNight Fear

Whispers from a foggy field beckon my call.
The man of the moon arises and brings on nightfall
The sun slips, drowning from yesterdays rain.
Sounds from the night air render the mundane.
Bright eyes appear awaiting in their dusky hangouts.
Growling, then a snarl...I jump up and about!
I ran back to my dwelling where I made camp ground.
I slammed my door, heart racing! I didn't make a sound.
Finally, sheepishly I dragged myself onto my bed.
Feeling insecure I pulled the covers over my head!
