Haifa Poems

Nazi time

Nazi time

Uniformed men with ice blue eyes, marched
Up and down the street, bomb fell, earth shock
And I was two years old
An officer with steel rimmed glasses and a cruel
Smile, said: this child is blond and has blue eyes
I clicked my heel, sucked my thumb
Mother, took to singing sentimental lieders
They gave her an iron cross, while dreamed
The kindergarten’s infant Fuhrer
To my regret, peace broke out and life was
Lull again, till I was circumcised and went
To live in Haifa, where I could pee over a new
Wall, which made me a natural leader of men.

Haifa Oranges

Haifa Oranges

The sky is light blue or pallid
It is late afternoon
Clouds are burgundy and
The sun is a Haifa blood-orange
Picked by a Palestinian
Gnarled hands.
That was his land, but a historical
Tremor came

He has resigned; this is Allah’s will.
But his sons think otherwise,
Blood orange, one day
Blood will overflow, run down gutters
As we have another tremor that
rumbles on an everlasting family feud.

Baha'i temple and a raincoat

The overpouring raindrops, the incessant rain outside was telling me continuously,
She was a story to nay sayer
and he was a theme park to symbolic haifa.

Baha'i temple and a raincoat.
People get soaked there.
With theocracy, bureaucracy, faithfulness, faithlessness, midlife crisis and many more like all these.
We and the downpouring sounds outside, are a drawback, still
That heavenly sky is still a striker hand of an indoor game!

Conscious Beings

She sensed the grass has instinctively grown

Taller than the aged stone motionless and alone

Deep green like the emerald set on her golden ring

Like cognizant beings nourished by a life-giving spring.

Righteousness In Distress

Many indisputably dreaded lunacy ensued yet hoped there is no hell
On a dim corner, the deposed 2017 president wiggle in his dank cell
Fake hero inside a fat ego in Moscow, waggle bloody fists of outrage
Nothing tragic happens if neurons are at bay and not on a rampage!

Societal issues is like week old bread without slivers of magic butter
Words embellished with hot air eventually sink masses in iced water
Sword of justice seizes a mad czar and a true charlatan alleged holy
If evil doers cramp your insides, chomp anti-acid, dump your worry!

Were it in Haifa, one could understand
or Tel Aviv by the shoreline, let ‘em pound sand

But in Holy Jerusalem, a ‘gay pride parade’ ~
one is forced to conclude, there’s nothing sacred

Premium MemberVacation In Israel

If a bomb goes off on a train or bus,
I guarantee the aftermath will not be too fabulous.
If I found myself in Haifa, Jerusalem, or Tel Aviv,
the first thing I would want to do is leave.
I can name so many other places for a vacation.
In the Middle East, staunch hostility surrounds this nation.
They are not shooting at each other in Tahiti.
How many terrorists are roaming in Hawaii?

Hineni

Hineni *

A tourist is looking for a synagogue, unwrapping the map.
He is sliding a finger on the paper over the distance travelled, Finding passage from cul-de-sac to the next dead and, Like someone who has lost sephirot, his main line.

I explain how he well get directly through Sioni,
Through a small square, opposite Jvaris Mama** to the synagogue.
I am shifting attention elsewhere,
I bid farewell, but he does not intend to go anywhere.

He days that he is not glad to open the tomb,
The fire started in Haifa and his house burned down.
At least nobody was found. Nobody met there. Fire has endured over his head.

I got upset, moved away from the bunker’ s dogs
We walked for a while side by side, closely, along the path:
An old woman on a pavement, feeding her cats.
An old woman on the balcony, shaking a carpet.

*Hineni is Hebrew: Here I am” Gen. 22:1
**Jvaris Mama (father of the Cross) is the name of church in Jerusalem St. Tbilisi

Empty Words

Eerini, greets the young Greek of Sparta
Shalom, answers the old Jew from Haifa
Assalam Alaikum, says the Arab Muslim
Peace, the Christian replies back to him.
Enough! so easily said but hardly meant.
