They call them dragons,
winds such as Rashabbar the black
who darkly binds the unwary, or dust spewing Calima,
she who herds madness from outside-inward.
Then there is Bayamo, the tree killer,
Tebbard the sultry doctor, a fever-wind
that dispenses fire and delusion.
Chinooks and Mistrals scour and skive.
The Haboob hunts where hunters hide.
Those named winds; gales that chisel faces,
as if they were cliffs.
Squamish, Elephanta, the Williwaw,
swirling thieves that steal babe,
crib, wimple and shawl.
I have traveled through some,
and avoided most.
When, in tornado season, I occasionally
roam from my Ohio home,
I think of those dragon-winds,
and scan the sky
for signs of a scaly whipping tail,
or talons clawing some fluffy clouds
before blowing a Dutch barn to bits.

what did i go here for
was it the mountain of mashed potatoes
marching me
toward the Simon light
if my memory…
red...beep…
blue...beep
green...beep
blue...beep
yellow...beep..red
helicopters overhead
a bright light
the calvary came
the desert storm
haboob of aliens
through the gate
they be strange creatures
with cutouts and lanterns
boozing and screaming
they be us kooks
and those be their warning shots
area 51 adieu

Blue
angels
brave hello,
in full command,
swooshing overhead.
Like the sun at twilight —
so low, with hurricane force.
Swift temptation tips cochlea —
you must obey the dust devil’s thrust —
the haboob hastens your smile reaction.

HABOOB
Harried sands joins forces,
Hurrying towards us,
Heavy with thud of hooves.
Horrified! Seek shelter!
Hampered sun does not shine.
Hope sought in praying hands,
Hapless in the storm’s core.

Changing sky
Like a moody child of my race,
I visualise hues of changing sky.
Woke up with dawn to find the sky amber,
A symbol of diplomacy and royal dynasty,
Orange chrome obdurant to stay.
Overshadowed by clouds as the day progressed,
Lacked light, debatable ashen grey sky,
Disheartening as the mood goes dull and gloomy.
Clouds flew with the haboob to unveil cyanic sky,
Clear blue of pure thoughts as the deeper ocean,
Imbibing peace into my veins.
As the sun reaches its vertex,
Shining lustrous blonde golden sky,
Exceptionally promising and evoking fortune.
Universe goes calm with the sunset,
That's twilight of reddish yellow sky,
All longings reaching to rest.
As I envisage sky disappear into darkness,
The eyes go blind, looking into zero,
Sky awaits moon to prove its very being.
