pine coffin’s lowered
into the freshly dug grave
raven caws in tree
in memory of our treasured friend Don whose funeral we attended yesterday

How shall I weep with those who mourn
When I have sensed the sweeter breeze
Wafting o'er the stones and through the trees
Across the sealed bronzed lid of death-borne
Sadness, yet eternal healing surely means
The bereft of pain are free;
The bereft of loss are free.
And so am I who stands before the glaring pit
Gazing into vast eternity, thinking only of me.
I shall not linger long to greet the wounded
Souls, whose cries of anguish at the bier
Reawakened in me long-dormant fear of dying
O, pity me, that I should self-accusing be
Grief-stricken without a solitary tear.

This winter day, I stand beside your weathered tomb-
thick layered clouds of gray reflect a somber ambiance
as unrelenting rain augments the ashen gloom.
But there's no brighter joy through days of springtime radiance-
for death remains as bleak in stirring drear experience.

I know you walked up the stairway to heaven that day.
The clouds parted angels greeted and showed you the way.
With the rain pouring down like teardrops to the ground.
We didn't doubt for a second God wasnt around.
He called your name and you heard him clear
"come home my child do not fear."
Take my hand and walk with me,your heavenly home is now complete.
I am ready to fulfill all i have promised to you, and that is just what i intend to do.
So you reached out your hand gave it to God and said i am not ready this is very hard.
I have things i have yet to do or see, i want get to be the father i really want to be.
Just give me a couple more years let me laugh a little and shed more tears.
But the final decision was made, we cry sometimes standing at your grave.
We all know you went to heaven that day.
Eyes filled with tears and our heads bowed to pray.

Forsaken,
weather beaten sign,
your tombstone.
Nameless soul,
the Savior knows who you are.
May you rest in peace.

Another lost soul
Her memories go with him

As the cold winds blow
I’ll love you eternal
We’ve always been one
In separating ways
Here you will find me
Anticipating my demise
To see you again
And say what I couldn’t
Until that day
I’ll wait rewriting
Reciting apologetic excuses
Here I stand
Where the lifeless reside
Letting the wintry winds gust
Like a whip on my back
Forgive me
