Happy birthday to you
You haggard old hand
You've age like a goose egg
in spots of your brand
And roosted so easy
in eggs come out right
When your children are spotting
your colors to right
And you're father for honor
of color and blight
Where together your sharing
what love is to sight
And we wish you your birthday
be happy for dad
When your wish is in giving
us birthday shared fad

The Valley of Loss
My dear, we've run out of words, I see
Calm is the garden except your tree
A cherry blossom dying in my mind
Now barren of pink in Spring's glee
How can our moons bled into the night
And our rooting take plight
Why could I never touch your blossoms
For your garden gate shut tight
Somehow our ducks didn't line true
For one year our pond was shady of blue
Filled with decoys of reality
With ephemeral winds shaking our rue
My dear, we swam circles in that pond
With you ducking my fondness and bond
Our days growing shorter and colder
The peaking sunshine never dawned
Oh how I wish our paths didn't fork
And the tines of our love had torque
Carrying us to the door of our hearts
Where bubbling sweetness uncork
Dear, your piano man now leaves the room
His ivories look and sound of gloom
On his shoulders rest memories of you
A cherry blossom entomb

woman, oh woman
even after your
constant, daily
treatment of abuse
I demonstrated
I could have been
your karate kid.
In your defense
did I not impulsively
stand tall between
two warring giants
me, a whippet of a kid
arms outstretched
like sabre swords
pleading don't hurt
her....
taking blows
meant for you.
You the one that
inflicted pain 24/7
twisting the
tender skin off
my arm flesh and
leaving huge welts
that stung like
scorpion hot chilies
the umpteen mountainous
goose-egg bumps
you planted on
my tiny forehead
with knuckles
constructed of iron steel.
I demonstrated
a compassionate heart
in dreadful moments,
woman, oh woman
where was your
loving heart
standing in as mother
to an abandoned child
now trapped in a
poor, blazing hellhole.
With fresh eyes anew
...my learned enlightenment
I now understand your
sole/soul's motivation was
the almighty dollar
... hard cash that never
came through for you.
Pure and simple ...
avaricious by nature
most certainly
not nurture and,
please excuse me
while I laugh
you claim
to be a
christian!
Hmm, I say
hypocritical
and evil
to the core.

I never really understood what people meant
when they said it hurt when
they ran their fingers across places on their bodies
that once were bruised,
or swollen,
or in pain-
until i finished that sad book,
and remembered all the things i tried to suppress,
and ran my fingers across the place on my head
where a goose egg once was
that night you got mad and slammed my head against your metal bed frame;
and when i went to cradle myself
and flinched when I remembered the bruise you left on my left arm;
and when I squeezed my eyes shut,
to try and make the pain from where my black eye once was go away.
I never really understood the pain I was in
until I was in pain from things that weren't physically there anymore,
but will still haunt me nonetheless.

A goose egg of gold,
Six lambs in a fold,
The coconut fell from its tree.
A pet, granite rock,
It's thirteen o'clock,
The mountain slid into the sea.
