Promises Made Out of Sight
David J Walker

The projection on the wall of
Solid imagination
The illumination
of what might be
tomorrow

a day of sorrow
a day of borrowed joy
a day that employs
furloughed friends on
borrowed time

I rise early in anticipation
Believing the moon will set
And the sun will rise
As yesterday’s page turns
Into tomorrow’s light

The illustrations are vague
But such is the stuff of
Promises made
Out of sight

Premium MemberAmerica's Longest Government Shutdown

Both
Sides
Stubborn
Not budging
Washington impasse
The government shutdown drags on
While the furloughed and unpaid federal workers suffer
When will the captains of complacency in Washington finally end this madness?

Sonnet 22 Battle of Marston Moor Ii

I let a boy, a Roundhead* boy, to live...
I knocked him down, and said, 'stay down my boy!
You're fourteen, and your mother waits to give
You letters** - HEY THEN! THAT is not a TOY!'
(For he'd stuck me a bit wi' a little knife,)
It only hurted summat, so I took it,
And said, 'stay DOWN! THESE words are worth your life!'
He cried a bit -- I took his hand and shook it,
Then, I pulled out the knife, and gave it back.
And knocked him out, then, and left him for dead,
'You'll wake up well alive, lad!' Then a 'crack'!
A Roundhead* bullet took me in the head.
So, I lay down a bit, to rest me eyes,
And I am lying there still, I must surmise...

* 'Roundhead' was the Kingsmen's name for the Parliamentarian forces of Oliver
   Cromwell
** it was not uncommon, after a battle, once the boys were furloughed, for
family to send the boys back with letters for the men who still fought

Premium MemberLife With T-Rump Xxxix

Scorched earth flows from Rump’s rumble
And feds are furloughed and grumble
Although he seems glad
For us it’s rather sad
While his wall and our cookies crumble

Author's note: The world's economic and social ills won't be fixed by a wall, but the US steel companies will benefit. In the "America First" isolationist world, some assume that we can exist without sharing and caring. That's a recipe for apocalypse.

At least Nancy Pelosi and the democrats in the House have the sense to stand up to the obese narcissistic T-rumpasaurus meanus.

Rebirth

“Messages,
  trapped in the wind

Words,
  burrow deeply within

Voices,
  emerge from the past

Memories,
  and dreams overcast”

Leaves fall,
  branches reach for the sky

Winter clouds gather,
  snow starts to fly

Furloughed—the seeds
  march distant and free

The season long,
  its transients flee

Vision impaired,
  past futures to fade

Acceptance—rejection,
  a choice to be made

The first Nightingale sings,
  its call from beyond

A feeling unfreezes,
  old words to a song

The hills begin thawing,
  new tracks to reveal

Salvation once promised,
  no longer concealed

Winds from the west,
  bring rebirth and enthrall

The sun melting lies,
 —and winter recalled

Premium MemberSly Fox of Chigger Hallow

In the foothills of the Ozarks Arkansas
Those mountains a calling, come and play the game
From prison came Joe to see his ailing pa
Furloughed from prison won notorious fame

Frances met him in their secret rendezvous
Sweet blonde Frances Standridge, eyes of baby blue
Her lover the sly fox of Chigger hollow
Taught her teenage virtue a newfound shallow
