winter solstice cross
the calendar outside winds
are frozen blizzard
~
winds a blowing snow
ever so falling tickling
my nose is frosted
~
my toes are so stiff
my hands are brittle frostbit
in this frozen snow

Christmas time
Visions of little snowmen,
Tinsel in the tree,
It’s that time of year again,
And presents there will be.
You hear the tune, your favourite tune,
You find you sing along,
Getting very excited when…
You hear that Christmas song.
Decorations hanging down,
The bright red jumper craze,
Merriment throughout the town,
As you mark off all the days,
Twinkling lights and glitter balls,
Cards with robins on,
And still you click your fingers when…
You hear that Christmas song.
Advent calendar, chocolate treat,
Several more to go,
Freezing hands and frostbit feet,
Brought on by the snow,
Wondering is it worth it,
When will this be gone?
But still you smile a little bit when…
You hear that Christmas song.
Christmas dinner, turkey feast,
Presents now unwrapped,
The merriment now has ceased,
As the adults take a nap,
Children still excited,
For them it carries on,
But adults now just want some hush,
And not that bloody song.

I would ride straight to the storm back in the day
"Weather be damned," I'd swear loud an' duck my head
I'd stay in the saddle 'til the sun went down
Shorty's bar was near
I'd swagger up to the bar like an old hand
I would drink my fill and then I'd drink some more
While other men were were measured not quite as strong
Half froze and frostbit
Next day I'd stick my face in an ice filled trough
Fit spurs to my boots and mount with the sunrise
Ride toward the mountain looking for the mustangs
Do it all again
I'm old now and never found that one woman
My bones ache where they've been broke a time or two
It's good now that I don't look for wild horses
For the thrill is gone

CONFECTIONATES Hurt Teeth Here In My Mouth Twenty Below
My teeth are bitter cold
Aching so much so
Bit down on a red pop-cycle
After inhaling mint malted butter brickle
Nasal dip tried chocolate chip
So cold outside can't feel my face
What sense does it make
It's below 28 degree
Aching so much so
It's cold outside why am I
This doesn't make any sense
Eating all these confectionates
It's winter, snowing and twenty below zero
Frostbit, frozen lips, hurt teeth here at twenty below

have been given
the cold shoulder
icy cold encounters
are now the new norm
within our realm of reality
the sea of change hath frozen over
there is black ice upon the broken
bridge of chance
tried to move across the iced over sea
suddenly the ice began to creak underneath
my bare feet then the ice finally broke
causing me to fall into the freezing water
tried to escape the icy waters
was able to finally pull myself
back up onto the icy surface
did not come out unscathed as
a result of the fall i experienced
emotional frostbit

My temper is fiery
It wants to break loose
Your passion is icy
So tender, so smooth
Your touch it feeds me
It wills me to stay
The coldness it dulls me
Controlling my rage
Always we dance dear
Pulling close than apart
Your touch leaving me frostbit
My fire wanting to ignite
We are perfectly tempered
Us two, you and I
I keep us warm
When you're cold on the inside

I'll ride with you awhile, my friend
Until the wind turns cold.
I'm not as young as I once was -
Just feelin' kinda old.
I used to ride straight to the storm -
"Weather be damned", I'd say.
I'd yell an' cuss at wind unseen
An' ride 'til end of day.
I'd swagger up to Shorty's bar -
Half froze an' frostbit too.
I'd drink my fill then drink some more,
When other men were through.
I had my pick of fair haired gals,
But never found that one
Who'd make me quit and settle down
An' say, "This cowboy's done".
So I wore out a hoss or two,
An' broke bones here an' there.
Rode from the Red to Rio Grande,
But never stayed nowhere.
For now I'm proud to ride with you
Until the wind turns cold.
An' then you're on your own my friend -
My tales have all been told
April 1, 2016
The older I get the better I like the idea that"there's nothing I can do about it now" and I put that poetically in this Cowboy poem.

Aerate this amalgamation
of Ecstasy.
Frozen dark thunder
Not crashing but
Cracking into
My center.
Dry ice and smoke
Enveloping this
Desperation.
An I sail into
the Tundra,
Tarnished, bleeding
and frostbit.

'Twas winter on a frostbit afternoon,
After the fall, and glory of the sun,
Where I imagined to believe in June,
To melt the ice inside this lonely one.
Snowflakes did slide inside my soul and stir,
Fervent feelings of frost fashioned in ice.
Yet my thoughts young of youth would yield to her,
To June, like Christ, my flesh would sacrifice.
Passions of winter clouds and heavens heat,
Seduced imaginations in my mind.
As shadows of my thoughts left June to meet,
Love in my soul, leaving the cold behind.
Unto my knees I kneel knowledge to pray,
To never change the thoughts of June away.

To thee I pledge my love, so still thy ghosts;
The past, a haunting blows, but reapers chill,
And bade we lay within the darkness close,
Me breathless blue, but you so bluer still;
Against my breast shall love be held agone,
As shadowed lovers frost your pouting lips;
To mourner’s winter doth your love belong,
And ne'er summer sun escape eclipse;
Another season blooms, yet bloom thee not;
Alone, a rose, I wither frostbit cold;
My love, a raging fire, is barely hot,
Within a heart, thy promise over sold;
Alas, I lay a corpse within thy crypt;
With regret, thus, I kiss thee purple-lipped.
