I'm going toward the frightful unknown
carrying the flaming torch of hope,
it's a challenge never taken before:
I've made a new promise often broken!
Where can a disheartened person find courage...
when, in this age, most portray the wrong image?
Many have reached their goal through ugly deceit,
but the honest one struggles to put up the fight!
I encourage you to go forward the frightful unknown
with the enthusiasm of a Marco Polo or Paul Revere:
grabbing the bull by the horns and austerely persevere
in a quest reminiscent of their ideals for the grit shown!
To have a conscience is a choice to do right,
to gather the big harvest without any merit
or sweat is mocking the hard-working people
who plow the field and put food on your table!
I'm dauntlessly going toward the frightful unknown...
proclaiming a humble glory to be revealed by enduring time,
not all wishing it would succeed and earn a king's crown;
any loss wouldn't be a defeat, any conquest would be divine!

Weather forecast so frightful, so scary
It removes from this season the 'merry'
Howling winds and blowing snowdrifts
Force your car off the edge of a cliff
Visibility of less than half and inch
Makes an experienced aviator flinch
700 flights canceled in and out of O'Hare
Frustrated travelers curse, cuss and swear
On bridges and overpasses icy conditions
Blackening every commuter's disposition
Travel advisories constantly warn of the worst
For those on the road in this accursed cloudburst
Oh, that I'd been created as a great big black bear
~ So I could tune all this out -- fast asleep in my lair

Charlie's cartoon characters were afraid
`Cause Caren wants humor in her crusade
Only one person submits
Caren careens and retrofits
Curiously all have it made in the shade

The Weather Outside is Frightful
Christmas in Miami is a difficult sell
When the outside temp is hotter than Hell
St. Nick tries his best in the humid air
But soon sweats right through his underwear
Partridges tend to avoid palm trees
And geese hardly ever lay by warm seas
Mocking birds ignore their instinct to tease
And French hens never appear in threes
Christmas carols just don’t seem quite right
With nary a snowflake anywhere in sight
And how does one keep his sled on course
When the winds are blowing at hurricane force?
Those poor reindeer, ‘specially Cupid and Comet
Suffer from heatstroke and projectile vomit
And landing on rooftops still radiating heat
Raises painful blisters on their feet
The snowmen and wreaths are all baloney
And most of the trees are actually phony
The words: “Sleigh bells ring; are you listenin’”
Ring kind of hollow, ‘cause nothing is glistenin’
Now I’m not suggesting we give up the spirit
That’s not my message; I don’t want to hear it
Besides, much of the same could be said about Hanukkah
Especially if one lives near Santa Monica

Awake!
Hands shake
Room dark
So stark
In bed
Soft tread
On stairs
Raised hairs
Alone
No phone
'neath sheets
Heart beats
Door squeaks
Floor creaks
Spine chilled
Pants filled
Take chance
Risk glance
Bright slit
Back-lit
Shadow
Does grow
Nails scrape
Escape!
Laugh peels
Reveals
Best friend?
Amend!

THAT FRIGHTFUL DAY
It was a Tuesday,
The world was told.
Terror filled the skies,
Murder cold and bold.
Americans are secure,
Our world is safe, we said.
We work in total comfort,
Rest securely in our bed.
September is a lovely month,
Along the Eastern shore.
With turning leaves and autumn breeze,
Shouting peace forevermore.
The eleventh day began the same,
Warm winds and shining sun.
Our dreams were real, our hopes were high,
In the year twenty double o' one.
What were these planes doing in the town,
Why were they flying so low.
The world's twin towers would soon come down,
Then all would surely know.
New York will never be the same,
Nor will the U S A.
People now stand hand in hand,
Because of that frightful day.
Americans are now united,
Our newfound faith must stay.
You and I will conquer,
If we take the time to pray.
God gave His son to guide us,
With a message of Peace and Joy.
With love and understanding,
If His Glory we employ.

If I'm able to reach to the
drifting sky,
I'd die literally... I'd lack
oxygen and my heart would
thump like a drum
If I reach too high in the
drifting, dusky sky,
I'd fall - I can't see the flowers
of plenty below my spoiled,
crusty feet
My worn-out feet
What a frightful flight,
I Know, Right?
Forever...
My dream drags on
And I'm floating like a
feather...rummaging in the
cotton candy clouds
Dismay douses me as my sweet
tooth becomes
satisfied...before the break of
dawn
And I'm drifting away with the
sea-blue sky waves and
disconsolate clouds
What a frightful flight,
I Know, Right?

Storms that frighten the heart
Come in many varieties
The swift, windblown storm
Is fast and furious
Very painful at first
But later finding relief
There’s the lightning storm
Comes in quick as flash
Damages a lot of area
And pain continues on after
The long hard storm
Is still yet another
It might slowly come in
But once there
Pounds with solid force
Excruciating pain all over
All during and all after
The horror of such a storm
Is its continuous hurt
The pain never seems to cease
All storms of the heart
Come with terror
All you can do against it
Is to hope there is peace
A calmness in the frightful storm
Before it arrives

My frightful steel helmet is so battered, dinged and frayed
It was issued by the Air Force - not a haberdashery store
I don't suppose it would look very proper in an Easter Parade
But it sure did come in handy-dandy when fightin' in the war
For such things as bathin', washin' drawers and so much more
Camouflage nettin' adorned it in lieu of ostrich feathers and lace
Many fellers preferred civilian life sportin' a jazzy, felt fedora
On the march the dad-gum thing flopped about and fell in your face
Twigs, grass and weeds covered it to blend in with the flora
Four-letter words were heaped upon it - of which there was a plethora

I grab my lance,
and my Steed is readily near,
the thoughts of those I loved,
and what I'm fighting for.
Love and Live and I must fight,
To get the prize I seek.
But on this frightful night,
The one I must fight is me.
But I get on my steed
and ride down this hill.
With Courage and Faith,
I Strike with this Steed,
one fear down
then another,
and another again.
Till all that is left is me,
but the biggest one of all,
has to come along,
and I can not face it alone.
The Fear of not knowing
What will happen,
Until it comes,
But I know with Faith and Love,
I grab my Sword and Shield.
Racing toward this Fear,
I shall strike him down,
But time is all I need.

you and your friends are chilling
when you spotted this man through the crowd
he walks up to you
you're smitten
happy that you caught his eye
the both of you are dancing then he asks you do you want a drink
not thinking you quickly respond
yes, get me a coke please
as you're dancing and drinking
your heart beats faster, so you start to sweating
you can't think, it's hard to focus
your eyelids get heavy, but it's not from being sleepy
you've past out just to wake up to a man forcing himself upon you
you're trying so hard to push him off
but your body is numb
what's left to do but cry?
it hurts your heart to know that your virginity is being taken by a man you've just met
your body is so fragile, but he doesn't care
when he finished he got up and left you there
should you tell?
would they believe you?
your friend finds you in the room
and quickly calls 911
she's praying and wishing that you're okay
you'll never want to go out again
all because of that FRIGHTFUL NIGHT
