Lessons Unlearned

I knew it from the very beginning
Loving you was a mistake
And so I learned something new
Not to love someone like you.

But like lessons learned in school
Sometimes we forget
That's why until now
I still do the same mistakes.

Lost Love

My mom was the prettiest mom.
I look for her, she can't be found.
No more cookies and milk after school,
nor smile when asked how was your day.
Instead I hear this is your stepmom Denise.
I was five.
Dads in jail.
I cry myself to sleep.
I'm six.

Identical

She’s my new confidante
A workmate in school
Her cuddly attitude
Thought she is cool

We talk about heartbreaks
Laugh our foolishness
We think about problems
Find our happiness

We’re pretty identical
Like old best pals
We can sense everything
Feeling same like cool gals

We’ll hold it till end
Till we made it so far
We’ll be in an endless trip
Catch those little stars!

Blowing Bubbles

Warm sunshine touches my face, and I begin to blow bubbles
I wonder and wait to see how big or small you'll be,
Iridescent and beautifully floating carefree through the air.
I wish it was me instead of you.
Giggles escape as the school girl I used to be emerges.
I blow more bubbles as I dance and twirl about,
Around me the country fields of hope spring up
As the bubbles beautifully float carefree about me.

I Could Not Afford Oceanfront

i could not afford oceanfront
a reassuring kiss from you is priceless
i wish that you were here
however your eyes are more important than a trip
i pray that both of your eyes heal from the cataract surgeries
if it were up to be, then i would go back to school and study to be a miracle worker
i would just pray your perfect eyesight back into their rightful place, and then off we go
no matter where we stay, the view is always more beautiful with you by my side

Luv You

LUV YOU

My ex-daughter-in-law is a "Luv you" gal, every letter and every card ends with, "Luv you", every phone call, every good-bye "Luv you", seeing the bairn off to school, "Luv you", but; she made me laugh one day, when as coming out of the house to go to work, she there pushing the dog back into the house, then she opens the letterbox and says, "Luv you" . . .

She's away to work
pushes the dog back inside
Letterbox, "Luv you"

"Wouldn't have her any other way" . . . : )

It Was Just

It Was Just An Another Summer Day For You And I,
But For Them It Was A Day They'll Never Forget.

It Was Just A Party For Her Friends,
But For Her It Was Night What Dreams Are Made Of.

It Was Just Another Boring School Day For His Classmates,
But For Him He Nearly Lost The One He Loved.

It Was Just Typical Work Day For People In The City,
But For Him It Was Just Another Day Watching Her Lifeless Body.

It Was Just An Another Wet November Day,
But For Both Them They Got Their Lives Back.

A Teenager's Crush

Just a thought of hers,
And butterflies would fill up my stomach,
Which wouldn't go silent,
Until I fall asleep or get lost in her memories,
So deep, that I wander out.
What is the cure of a confusion so sweet,
That I barely want its cure.
Sometimes while roaming in the school,
My eyes meet hers ,
For a second or so and I abruptly stop.
My heart beats faster
And my brain freezes. My eyes follow her
Until she disappears,
In the clad of students, roaming freely,
In the corridor in the recess.

Butterflies

Have a clove
Trace a tattoo
Some of the things
I hope that you'll do
With me and to me
Baring my arm
Feeling your touch
Loving your charm
Butterflies flitting
From my point of view
Inside my stomach
I'm tingling too
Your fingers caressing
My nerves set ablaze
Alive in my senses
Locked in your gaze
Reign in the horses
Keep them in school
Easy there cowboy
Just play it cool
Q: You sure like her, don't you?
A: She makes my blood flow
Q: She's beautiful isn't she?
A: Oh boy, is she so!

4am

4am

Tonight the light of a tender moon
Blooms like stardust in my bedroom.
I think of happy people
not people like me.
They are lay under silk sheets
In a sleeping embrace.
Her softness comforts him
Even in his dreams he feels her.
The soft breathing of their sleeping children
makes the night even more tender.
In the waking morning
Their children will go to school
She will kiss her husband
As he leaves for work.
With a have a good day honey.
And the world is all
as it should be.
The dream fades
It 4am again.
And I am lay here sleepless.
Alone In my bed.
Thinking about
a beautiful woman.
That I should have stopped loving
a very long time ago

Return To Me

He sit by the door day after day
Waiting for her to return
Ready to play he'd patiently wait
'Til time for school to adjourn

A child and her dog, bonded in life
He became this little girl's friend
Raised from a puppy, he slept on her bed
Together, until the end

Walking home from school one day
She tripped on the sidewalk and fell
Rushed to the hospital, the little girl died
When her brain continued to swell

She didn't come home, he didn't understand
It was time to play their game
They tried to call him away from the door
But every day was the same

He'd sit by the door day after day
Waiting for her to return
Ready to play he'd patiently wait
'Til time for school to adjourn

I Wish I Could Love You

Forbidden love makes everyone think Romeo and Juliet
People think we love eachother and we don't know it yet
But sometimes there isn't always an obvious Capulet
Sometimes we don't want to have to live in our own regret

I want to make a stand for something I want... or maybe a fall
To fall in love and live my life, but if I do that, I risk it all
To say it in person or to send a text or even give her a call
Whatever, I'll just stay a friend or less and I'll build a wall

I give up, I'll never be the winner, no matter what I do
I screwed up in school, swim, social life, no breakthrough
I need to get rid of these feelings so I don't make it all askew
I'll keep it to myself and tell a friend or two that I love you

Thanks To Facebook

Marigold Oger grew up without a mama, this pretty girl with eyes of greenish blue.
Because her mama died unexpectedly in the middle of a dark wet night when she was two.
We met in middle school after we kept laughing at the teacher’s idiocy at the same times.
I sort of have ADHD, the moron told us. “I’m off my meds, but the school board thinks I’m fine.”
By the end of this teacher’s class, Marigold and I were thick as brother bears.
She could spend Friday nights at my house, and she did; we practiced a lot of interesting swears.
She’s a bad influence, my mother said, relieved, when Marigold’s family moved 5.4 hours away.
Thanks to Facebook, we got reacquainted forty-one years later, and we have more in common every day.

I Think of You

From the moment I awake
With every single breath I take
With every vital beat of my heart
And every moment we’re apart

In every single thing I do;
Eating my lunch or lacing my shoe
Shaving my chin or combing my hair
Rushing headlong here and there
Writing a letter or reading a book
Washing up or trying to cook
Singing along when the crooner sings
Taking apart or mending things
Watching a movie on TV
Settling down with a cup of tea
Being busy or enjoying my rest
Just doing things that I enjoy best

Laying in my bed at night
Even when I turn out the light
The thing I mostly ever do
Is think and think and think of you!

Author's Note:I wrote this poem over forty years ago when I was still at school. Naturally, I had a particular girl in mind at the time! :-)

Jw Loved Ones

When you know you love some one,
When you see them,
When you spend time,
With one another,
When you talk,
To hold them in your arms,
Is a treasure so deep,
To guide them,
To fill the wholes in their heart,
Making them feel loved,
Your best friend,
You will love her to the end,
I will love her to the end,
I cherish her,
I care for her,
I watch over her,
I comfort her,
I hold her in the struggle,
I guide her,
I talk to her,
I will miss her,
Her moving,
Will hurt me,
We cant talk,
We cant spend time with one another,
I cant hold her,
I will miss this,
Above all,
I will miss her,
We can still communicate,
Through media,
Passing at school,
But it may never e personal,
If I see her,
I will run to her,
I will kiss her,
On the forehead,
And hug her,
And never let go.

Take My Hand We Are To Dance In the Stars

take my hand we are to dance in the stars
it is a whirlwind in its arms
as we glide thru they will dance
in a tiara of suns adorning you
now lift your hand, turn in a balance
as we glide thru nebulas
the newly forming stars mix in your hair
as rubies capturing that red seductive glow
the essence you are i so adore
drawn to the center a black hole
becomes weak interacting massive particles
to the gravity in your eyes
i am held in your arms as such
as we escape the event horizon
we are now free to continue in eternity
this is not a dream
it is the next phase waiting
when we escape this mortal coil
there are a trillion galaxies
and upon your dance ticket
i am the only name
wise men say only fools dream
but if you look at Raphael's
School of Athens, there are only men
i prefer the dreams i have in your arms

Shurvi

Shurvi

Shurvi was still an infant
Who knew nothing about her sin,
For being born a girl child
She was the cause of her parents' chagrin.

People turned their faces away
Relatives poke fun at them
A girl was born, not a boy
Oh! What a disgrace, such a shame.

As the time passed by,
Shurvi learned to walk on her feet
Joined the school amidst the lads
With a determination as hard as concrete.

Shurvi has turned twenty by now,
She must go and conquer her dream
Chose the army against all odds
Something for which she was keen.

Served her best in the military
Earned the noble badge of honour
A moment of pride for her parents
As loads of blessings showered upon her.

Here comes our valiant little Shurvi
Cheers the crowd and the clan
Standing tall in her army uniform
She proves herself no less than a Man.

Mother's Day Poem

A mother is a blessing from god
A true gift sent down from heaven
Her strength and wisdom are her strongest traits
Her love and caring is the extra touch
With all the things a mother does for us
Its no wonder why we love them so much
There with us through the good times, the bad times, the ups and the downs
They chase away our nightmares and protect us from our fear of clowns
There is nothing a mother won't do for us
Our memories of her are gold
From the first ride away from home on that school bus
To the heartbreaking goodbye when we head off to college and leave home
All the moments with are mom are priceless in compare
They are good and they are fair
The bond between mother and child can never be severed
So this mothers day give your mom a big hug and kiss and tell her how much you love her
Because as you get older, she gets older to
And she won't be around forever

From Your Soldier

“Dear maya”, he wrote, in his bunker somewhere remote

His mind wandered to her joyous smile, seperated as they were, by many a mile,

He penned what came to him instinctively, in a scrawly handwriting,”I miss you lovely”

He wrote about everything but not for long,he wanted to tell her he missed her singing their song.

He wrote about how his home did he miss, his bike, his school and his mother’s kiss

His brother’s dare, his sister’s care,

his eyes glittered as he put it all down, his dimpled cheeks twisted into a deep sad frown,

He wrote about how, of her everything reminded him, his eyes hesitantly filled to the brim,

The distance for a while didn’t his heart tear, oh what he’d give up to at her stare,

Her hand on his heart, never would he want to part;

But close by there was a deafening sound,he knew had to leave, he was duty bound,

He ended his letter;promised to see her soon, in this world of internet, to him letters were still the only boon.

Sandy

I had a friend, from long ago
We were only young you know
She was my best friend
At least that's what I thought
We did everything together
I liked her a lot!

But then one day
I had to leave for school
Though I wish I did not
Cause I missed her a lot
Then one day I came home
When I called out to for her
She did not answer me
I looked for her high & low!

But then I heard one day
From the TV news man
That she had met 3 bad men
And they took her away
She is with the angels now
For it could not be any other way
And I know she waits for me
Cause she was always that way !!!

I moved away from home, age 16, up to Oregon to get my degree in child psychology & teaching, come home at 18. had a dream that Sandy and I went to a house party "both of us age 18" then she went into another room with 3 men. So I stood there & knocked forever on the door. Sandy never came out. This is a TRUE dream! And yes this ( her missing) was on the news. Two brothers and a cousin killed her.

Let's Make a Movie

Inspired by “Dinosaurs in The Hood” by Danez Smith.

Let’s make a movie. About a fat girl. But in this one, she isn’t bullied all her life and rises above it to become thin and successful later in life. Or an awareness movie where she commits suicide because the kids at school call her a whale. No, in this one she is brought up in a good home with a loving and supportive family. She has lots of friends who are amazing. She is always in a positive environment. Let’s make a movie about a fat girl who knows that she is fat but does not know the word fat in a negative form. She sees herself as fat but also as beautiful because that is all she has ever been told. Because that’s what she is: beautiful.

The word fat should not be used as an insult. It should not be used in a derogatory way. It should not be used to make girls’ self-worth vanish. It’s a description. You’re given one body: love it. No matter what it looks like: it is yours. For 18 years, it is the only thing that is yours. Love it.

                                              -Maddie MacLeish

How Often Used To Be-

..."How often is used to be when used to be was just a wood burning stove? How often is used to be, when it was just boards up to the windows? And how often is used to be ?When we had a pot belly stove and the plated grate that covered wood burning in the bowl? How often is used to be when Grandma Houston sit and read? How often is used to be when we had a radio and no black and white TV? How often is used to be, When we had fat back soup? How often is used to be when we pray for our troops? How often is used to be when the color of our skin separated us? How often is used to be when we had no lights on our truck? How often is used to be when all grades were in one room school house? How often is used to be when we had an odd house instead of a running water toilet!!!
Now sitting at the table in Granny's chair is a young baby crying hurting our ears. Grandma used to Rock of Ages and tell us Bible stories. My Granny's gone how often it used to be she's no longer here but she lives in our hearts
All those fond memories, How often is used to be?"

Thank God For Pearl

I went to church when I was five,
Sunday School, never missed.
I looked over; who did I see?
Well, of course, I saw Pearl teaching.

Time went by and I got older,
I graduated to the “big church”.
I looked over, I sat on the left.
Who was on the right, Pearl.

Once a month, every month,
Usually the first Sunday… Food`s aplenty.
Go downstairs to eat, who`s there?
Right again. Pearl, with bowl in hand, always happy.

Time goes by, I'm married now.
It's Sunday. Church again; this time with family.
I look to the right, across the aisle,
and who`s there? Right again. Pearl…

1999, it's a very sad Sunday in church.
My Gramzer, upfront in casket; she passed away.
I stood up, turned around, I said a few words.
Who do I see? Pearl, handkerchief in hand, wiping away a tear.

It`s Sunday, Church, Choir time.
I walk up front and once again,
Looking behind me, I see...
Pearl, ready to sing for Jesus.

Time goes by; my whole family is with me.
We're on the left, as usual.
It's been 55 years since that first Sunday.
I look over. Who do I see? I see Pearl once again.

Pearl, I thank God for you…
