Flat Bottomed Poems | Examples

A River Leads

Spanish Moss hangs over my face
a gentle caress
green filaments brush my hair.
The flat-bottomed boat
glides on a slow current
but it pushes me,
it urges - but to where?

Florida has a lot of water,
this stream is green,
a backwater making its own way
as it slides between marshy land.

Perhaps it will wind into
a Floridian suburban stream somewhere,
there will be blue swimming pools,
perhaps the odd plastic flamingo?

I hope there will still be
these enrobed Cypress trees,
some curtains of trailing moss
that will part
revealing new ways for this boat to go.

Mystic River
lazy mists dawdle
 in sinuous rivulets ~
   fog surfs in deep dales

river of white clouds
threads through alleys of tall pines ~
  fog garden slow dance

curly silver mists
 pale kisses on riverbanks ~
  swirling shape-shifters

flat bottomed clouds float
 wispy fogs tickle thunder ~
 joy ride for cloud ships

mystic tule songs
 gypsy brumes on evergreens ~
  forest singalong

River of Clouds

Lazy mists dawdle through valleys,
Wending in a river of clouds,
Surfs deep dales on rising tides.

Silver curly-cue veils dally
On twisting rivers like a shroud -
Leaves a pale kiss on riversides.

Mystic Rom roams the pine alleys,
Gypsy brume evergreens beclouds,
Cryptic nomad without a guide.

Flat bottomed shades float like galleys,
Wispy fogs tickle thunderclouds
Stolen cloud ships on a joy ride.

Rising tule croons playful songs -
Alto whispers for a singalong.

Bayou Thoughts

waves ripple the knees
of hoary cypress

dark waters encroach
licked by an oily light

spanish moss
weave in and out
of sifting shadows

the flat bottomed boat
carries my thoughts
to a far bank
where alligators bask
and small white birds
piggyback upon knuckled
motionless hides

if i go one way on this stream
the skiff will dock
near an amiable flock of
other river boats

if i go another way
the maw of a listless fear
may open to trap my mind

i will leave behind the world of men
and their dreams
forever

the swamp will devour my name
the cypress trees gather my clothes
keep them chained and dangling
in their hollow hearts

Premium MemberDrowning Deeply In Love

Lips touch the tip of morning with the awakening
             of thine eyes,
           accompanied
           by inexhaustible
            thoughts of only
             you. Drifting away
              from abed, thoughts
              trace in tandem with
             thy body in lost sight
           within the flat-bottomed
         vessel. Water pouring
       down accreting to the
     seductive oils
     forming to
      crystallized
        foam.
          Drowning
            deeply
               in
                 Love.

Premium MemberThe Window

The window is almost without substance.
Hardly thinking about it unless you
need to change it in some way. It can
be made of glass, paper , plastic, or nothing at all.
There can be one to your heart, your soul, your
mind, and even to heaven.
The rain makes music upon it.....
One can open, shut, obscure, clean
decorate, or break it.
Theres nothing like a breeze through it....
You can find it in a home, in the ceiling
and in a flat bottomed boat.
It comes in all sizes and shapes...
big, little, round, square, oval; limited
only by our imagination...
Bless the window and the interest
and comfort it brings to our lives.
