Fire Resistant Poems

Premium MemberIf I Were a Tree

Sky overhead, ground below, stance erect
Roots with brethren entwined, in the forest
Sequoia redwood tall, with roots far spread
United we all stand, being well bred
Helping each other, judging not merit

Immune to disease, though no one suspects
Fire resistant, no ash to lament
Purity vibrant, our lives thus far led
Sky overhead

Life span centuries, in bliss throb perfect
For Mother Earth, we have utmost respect
Sunlight our food, upon which we are fed
Useful we are, long after we are dead
Pristine presence, no desires to ferret
Sky overhead

Burnt Out

No one saw him come or go,
he just appeared
jerking around - a mute puppet on fire.
His strings must have been thin
too thin to hold a flame
or maybe like his eyes, they were fire resistant.

Some said he had been a great person,
a man who had tried too little,
but obviously was always above the heads
of the casual onlooker.
Some claimed that he had reached too high,
a reach that he could not sustain -
had ignited a jerky flame.

Women likened him to passed lovers
ones now much disparaged on social media.
'He can’t dance, never could; look
even now, being only a pair of eyes
dangling on two strings, yet still
he can’t dance; anyway
not the way we want him to'.

Eventually, as a solar flare will flame out,
or as an unpublished poem will,
if disparaged too long on social media
he went bossa nova.

No one saw him dance away
his fiery eyeballs and strings
burning now sight unseen.

Despite New Anchors

She filled the entire sky.
The fold of clouds evened out.
She smiled regardless of weather.
Her smile peeped through the cracks of closed blinds.
Peeked between open spots of trees.
Her smile bright for all to see.
Highlighting everyone around.
All seamlessly standing still.
It was easy to become lost.
A young woman with rosy cheeks.
At first glance her dimple shown.
The corners of her mouth spread far.
Her perspective of warmth.
A fire resistant to element.
Every branch traced by her essence.
She was free.
Appearing without forecast.
Her intelligence spread far & wide.
No matter the storm she exerted her dominance.
Her smile a halo everlasting.
Yellow and white exuberated by an inspiration of her own.
The news anchor predicted overcast
Still she shone her brightest

Premium MemberDefective Depends

Do you know what burns my ass, my friends
A three foot high flame, setting fire to my Depends
Thought they were fire resistant
Guess mine were a defective shipment
Panic set in as the flames did ascend

They Came As Butterflies

Men with butterfly clothes
came from the East
moving in iron snakes
speaking chicken language
stormed land of our ancestors
They came as jokers, play boys
now they have multiplied
as many as Safari Ants
we burn them with grass
but are fire resistant
we try black magic in vain
Their smoking sticks shout death
even our ancestors hide away
every time they are invoked
to fight with us side by side
they dug our foundations
our feet are rooted in the air

Corruption Speaks

I dwell in the hearts of callous men,
I control and make them insatiable,
why all these campaigns against me?,
why set me on fire with sulphur and brimstone?
why set me ablaze with special gasoline and gas without ash?

I am the most popular being;doubt it...
then you are a living dead,
On pages of newspapers,on radio,on television screens;
I`m being talked about.

Government quarters are my abode,
I reside in the corridors of power,
I`m even power..,itself.
can you kill me?,
can you make me burn to ashes?
so far,my temples are in existence,
I`m untouchable,fire resistant.

I have produced many children and grand children;
but wait.....
they are dying slowly...
Alas!there are gang ups....!
gang ups against me and my children,
my time is running out...,
another king is coming;
I`m waiting for new temples
to reside and rule over,
so as to perpetuate my reign,
Are you ready for me?,
I`m ready to give you cold icy drinks
to quench your thirst...

*Personification of corruption*
