In ancient days, few knew how to write
So they would sign an "x" as their name,
Then kiss it to show sincerity
So the "x" , a kiss then became!
If anyone ever had regrets
Mr. Giocondo would be the one
He commissioned the Mona Lisa
Then refused it, when it was done!
Earnest Evans, a chicken plucker
Became a singer and changed his name
To honor his idol Fats Domino,
Chubby Checker is who he became
The standard size slinky can be fun
Go ahead and play all you desire
About that slinky did you know this?
It's made with 80 feet of wire!

Let me bring ya’ll back to what it once was.
That sweet, Gumbo flavor on the tip of your tongue.
We had The Meters, Chocolate Milk, and Fats Domino.
Louie Armstrong and the Irma Thomas Show.
We had music, spirit, and our traditional dance.
Trumpets and trombones were in every band.
We danced in the streets, and we never sat down.
Twenty-four-seven we would paint our town.
People came together as if all were kin.
And, it didn’t even matter what color of skin.
Je t’aime beaucoup for what you’ve given me.
The bosom of New Orleans and all it’s history .
With indisputable culture and indescribable heart.
Je t’aime beaucoup, which means “I Love You A Lot.”
Through me they’ll know about the “Big Easy.”
The city long, before George Bush’s “Breezy.”

Rock n Roll
Rock n roll
Do the stroll
The sounds of the 50’s and 60’s
Elvis Presley singing about “Hound Dog”
Girls screaming at his feet,
Elvis “The King”
Rock n roll
Has that beat
Frankie Avalon singing “Venus”
Bobby Rydell, you can’t “Forget Him”,
Fabian, well we know what he wants
“Turn Me Loose”
Rock n roll
Jerry Lee Lewis has “Great Balls of Fire”
He’s hitting those piano keys with his shoes
Then there’s the man from New Orleans
Singing about “Blueberry Hill”
That’s the one and only Fats Domino
Then the Beattles come on the scene
The British Invasion
“I Want to Hold Your Hand”
The BeeGees arrive from Australia
“The Lights are On in Massachusetts”
The Dave Clark Five and the Herman Hermits
The Rolling Stones make a big hit
That’s what rock n roll is
That’s the sound, that’s the beat
It gets you on your feet
That’s Rock n Roll.

In this decade: pizza, soda,
Colonel Sanders,
burgers only fifteen cents;
"Tutti Frutti,"
sock hops, "mooning,"
Rock and Roll (monumental consequence);
Rosa's bus ride,
suburbs, fluoride,
escalating sales,
vaccine for polio;
Mickey Mouse Club,
Haley, Hitchcock,
Davy Crockett,
drive-ins,
Fats Domino;
Causeless Rebel crashing car,
bouffant hairdos,
"har dee har har;"
Elvis on TV
and ME.

Lea, lush cordial waits
dawn, a promise of dew,
yet couldn’t stop the moment
stealing the moorside view.
The turn of Alf’s cart wheel
broke the silence of the night,
the beat of a lone heartache
stole the dark from the light.
“Picturesque Turner Lane”
The wind aloof did hone,
the old grey stone “Bar House”
Stood there, cold bare alone.
Out of the earth the village
rose, where the lake settles deep,
“Parson’s Lane” An expressway
to stone mason, layman, sheep.
New age enfolds the bridle
path, in the meanness of June,
wading amongst celandine
to a “Fats Domino” Tune.
Bare face against the window
precious eyes, craving stance,
a candle waits for someone
to touch in warm romance.
For youth is a learning curve
an implant, of worldly ways,
maturity dismantles
the lust of innocent days!

I was turning ten and learning the tricks
The year was 1956
I remember that my mother cried
The day that Tommy Dorsey died
I still believed in Santa Claus
James Dean was a Rebel without a cause
Green Door was a rockin’ tune
Patty sang about the Allegheny Moon
Russia’s relation with Hungary thinned
Gogi Grant sang The Wayward Wind
Love was a many splendored thing
I still can hear Fats Domino sing
Carl was wearing Blue Suede Shoes
While Guy Mitchell was Singing the Blues
The movie East of Eden was so fine
A young Johnny Cash was walking the line
Robert Young in Father Knows Best
Gunsmoke was about the Old West
The Edge of Night and As the World Turns
I’ll Cry Tomorrow, my heart still burns
Be Bop A Lu La Gene did render
And Elvis crooned Love Me Tender
In Poland the people fought for a goal
We listened to No Not Much and Heart And Soul
The Navy answered Mr. Robert’s Calls
There was the premiere of Guys and Dolls
Black and White TV had Roy, Gene and Tom Mix
What a wonderful year, 1956.

Are you listening to me ...
turn off that t.v.
he looks like a monkey
swinging in a tree, she would yell
so mad and I'd be so sad
to have to turn away
when I was set to sway
with the Fat Man.
"I found my thrill
on Blueberry Hill" and my heart lept
when he smiled.
My Mamma was a racist
who hated Little Richard or Fats
while she watched Elvis or Dean
and squealed like a teen.
I would hurry home from school
just to catch my bandstand man as
"the wind in the willow played
love's sweet melody",
and I prayed my Mamma would be late.
But, here she'd come right on time
yelling at the picture
of a genius in his prime.
........ lyrics from "BlueBerry Hill" sung by Fats Domino
