The Empty Page
It sat there at my student desk
In wait of task to tend.
Write a poem, the teacher urged,
Your thoughts to paper, penned.
Intently, I perused the sheet,
Pale white and yet unmarked.
It lay there teasing my first move,
“Don’t leave me unremarked.”
This paper, college ruled and prim,
Well-bleached and full of aughts,
Stared blankly back at me to help,
With all my labored thoughts.
I searched the room for any clues
Of how I was to learn.
The clock was running faster now,
No time to wait and yearn.
I sat there squeamish and unnerved,
Too weak to brandish pen.
It was my first time close to death,
Too late for where and when.
Surely, all the class can see
My torment and refrain.
I’d rather have a spelling bee.
I’m circling ‘round the drain.
In looking back these many years,
My eyes were outward bent.
The chalkboard hung erased to black.
My mind, abridged, was spent.
But time has made its mark on me,
Halfway granting one old wish -
To find that poem in myself,
And give to Mr. Nish.

Find Father Farrell and Terrell
when over barrel
while incredible church is imperil
find (call) Father Farrell (Terrell)
Parish which we cherish would scream
when scalded with steam so it did see
when either having been suspectable to sterile
or fond of finding a pleasant parishioner
who has happened to ferociously find
that his friend was feral
which we knew would be infuriating
while humiliatingly absurd we have heard
Interesting. Old
priest in Wichita, KS
was Father Bob Terrell.

Christmas is not Christmas without certain shows on my TV
Rudolph and Frosty from the sixties, are two I have to see.
A Christmas Story from the eighties always makes me laugh.
Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase will be included in my raft.
It I get stranded with a TV and a VCR and nothing else to see.
I have to watch how the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey.
It is a wonderful life with Jimmy Steward is something I might take.
But If I bring along Will Farrell in Elf, that has to be a mistake.

You’re a yoddering snake of fake!
Feeble Farrell Farrelly!
I’d disembowel the bark of a tree of three
To rip out your organs and feed ‘em as fishery food!

Went to a postcard show today
Capitalism in action!
Picked up some nice cards
One dealer - whose parents were Holocaust survivors
Gave me a break on the price
Another collector at the show
was an old Army buddy of my father
Used to work for him at shows
He sold his collection for six figures!!
Used to work in the Wall Street area
for a rich French stamp dealer
He sold a stamp for seven figures!!!
The battle between socialism and capitalism still rages in this world
One does not have to read Ayn Rand
Nor does one have to read Tolkien
But they are two famed authors
which are worth dipping into if you get the chance
Years ago I read Studs Lonigan
James Farrell - another one worth reading
Poetry is the order of the day
for those who love verse
No one is shooting at us for writing verse
in this land
Enjoy the holiday season you out there in the darkness!!

Perfectly Prepared Pair
So perfectly prepared was the pair;
God always handled us with care;
On earth we live;
Forgiveness give,
And His love and happiness share.
Jim Horn
Thankfully the trinity is at church
waiting for me. My wife Jill loves
singing in the choir. I have been
trying to record the Episcopalian
Priest's sermon. Father Farrell has
been trying to get his act together.

For Our Father Farrell
Always never sure where I should begin,
Or else if it really had been a terrible sin,
And my praying,
Continue saying;
Carolina Power Ball would like to win.

Our Tattooed Priest Eating Food
They say precious Priest had been tattooed;
After eating Holy Food was further reviewed;
Had been brash,
Applying ash;
On his beautiful body a crucifix it did include.
Priest had enjoyed eating food for thought;
Worshiping before cross and being caught;
We then realized,
That he prophesized;
With beautiful organist who along brought.
Great food was found at our church feast,
And the more we ate our waist increased;
Where we live,
Up something give;
Do be able to stop eating dessert at least.
Church attendance was flowing and flowing;
Provided food there while we were knowing;
Have a brain;
No weight gain;
Our church is where they want to be going.
When deep river by our church did run by,
On God for food knew we were able to rely,
And while we abstain;
From over eating refrain;
Great sermon for Priest God would supply.
(Our permanent priest not a supply one.)
Are Imperil So Hired Father Farrell
Our church ended up over bulging barrel;
Hungered for food and we were imperil;
State of shock;
Chip off of block;
God finally had sent to us Father Farrel

Results of pain maybe have been hurtful and debilitating,
And to God would best if we really started closer relating;
Stop ignoring;
Start adoring;
We must pray to God soon as possible without hesitating.
With Father Farrell here is what must be addressed,
When I meet you I had been immediately impressed
Are in God's loop;
Start poetry group;
Liked great sermon and the things that you stressed.
Remember the song, "I need Thee every hour."
I sure do right now even though it is 0400 here
in the morning.

Can't believe that I have already written
over 6,666 poems. Can you imagine.

By Priest Things Were Well Said
Things by new priest were all well said,
May be many things that we do dread;
With a strap,
He would rap;
My father did spank me while in shed.
Jim Horn
Farrell and me merrily would do things
way we want them to be.

Gracious great Priest with God scored;
We welcomed wonderful priest aboard;
Where he knelt,
Was Bible Belt;
Out to see him people had poured.

Father Farrell Graves from LOng Island
will be our new priest.

Cameras snap the last actions as tourists flash
Bullets fly by at respective velocities in streets
As dark humor goes out the window in Bruges
Some one falls from the high church tower
Assisted by gravity, a force of nature works well
A push from a stranger works even better
To bring him to his senses, obsequious to that end
A splat, a stain on the pavement below, where else
On the square, over a glass, a sampling of fresh brew
A hit man, this time, does not miss his mark
The story, like the beer, is delicious this time of year
Authors Note: The film named “In Bruges” (Who would do such a thing?) is a gem of a movie.
Colin Farrell, (eye brows and all), stars with Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. A must see.

Simon used to take part in motocross,
Before his bike stalled once mid-air,
When he was training on his farm land,
Which left him paralysed waist down.
He was born in 1982 on the 7th June,
And having fought back from that day,
In 2001 when he did dance with death,
He now races the Marathon T52/53/54.
He most often competes alongside Weir,
But worries about safety combinations,
Because safety issues can concern him,
And the Zika virus was a scare, quite big.
He lives in Maryport but trains in Carlisle,
At the Sheepmount Stadium to neatly chat,
With olympians Tom Farrell and Nick Miller,
Who he knows to be top athletes, class.
Dr Ian Thompson, Tanni Grey’s hubby,
Who trained this fantastic legendary idol,
Also trains Simon by propelling, pushing,
Him to muscle on further and further.
In 2015 he did brave to firmly complete,
The Great North Run, the half marathon,
When he won the silver in the T53 class,
And he works as a car mechanic by day.

Passed through a period
of reading sports novels
Passed through a Dreiser, Farrell, Malamud, Baldwin
period
I am great at dropping names, aren't I ?
I've read a lot of poetry and have published a number of chapbooks
Once I had 13 poems in a civil rights magazine
Then I passe through a Tolkien period
and published fan - fic
and Tolkienesque poetry
After that I returned to Planet earth
and read "The Rise of David Levinsky" and other novels about the Lower East Side
I sometimes attend a New Age shul
WHERE THEY READ A POEM AT EVERY SERVICE.
poetry won't pay the bills
but it is a good way to socialize
And it often speaks to the heart
It's not everyone's cup of tea
Speaking of that
the Kettle is boiling and
I'll soon have another cup
and read the Book Review section
I had two odes published in the New York Times
last year
Boasting can be fun!
Especially if you are not wealthy
like the majority of the world's poets
and chess players
