Christmas Is Five Days Dead
Evergreen corpses strewn on sidewalks
like victims of plague,
still adorned with specks of tinsel
abandoned and forlorn
once welcome houseguests now in the street
never to greet another New Year
all the presents unwrapped
put in proper place
beside last years loot of
sweaters, records and notebooks
never got written in
nothing to drink and no money for the bar
the food all

Evergreens
PoetrySoup poetry
an anthology of verse
Poems from every corner
of the whole wide global earth.
A sphere of sheer dynamism
from dawning till day is downed
There are no finer moments
than when poets are around.
Hand-me-downs in history
a legacy left behind
Is what poetry becomes
treasures gifted to mankind.
A rhythmic constellation
starlight gleaming in their genes
Multifaceted poets
PoetrySoup evergreens.

Trees
*** Trees ***
With or without their leaves,
Call out to me
Especially with a spiritual mystery
That amplifies as I investigate
And admire the vast variety
Of their beauty —
Borne in the costumes
of their diversity —
Their created, sweeping beauty:
From some with innumerous twigs
shooting straight, clean
Lines — arrows up into the blue;
To others

RIVER
———————————-
My trail comes to face a wide river
With no bridges to be seen under these
evergreens —
Outdoing one another in height.
No rustling leaves underfoot:
The pines let fall their needles
For years and years, so
I walk over a padded bed of silence
Laid thick upon the earth,
softly, light browns beside
The

Fragrance of Evergreens
Magical aroma brought Christmas into my heart
Reminding me of other scents – cinnamon and gingerbread
What are you doing? He asked, coming out to see.
Smelling the evergreens, I told him.
Their smell reminds me of Grandma’s Christmases, he said.

Evergreens, Evergreens
Evergreens? Evergreens!
In winter,
Windswept debris:
Blue bags, brown paper,
And white string.
Cling to city trees,
Evergreens?
In spring,
Buds bloom to Leaves,
Greening over,
Windswept debris:
Blue bags, brown paper,
and white string.
Evergreens!

Evergreens
Evergreens, evergreens standing tall; displaying
manifest beauty with every branch and leaf in
place. Oh, what tales you could tell if you were to
speak; tales of the ever-present danger you
have endured. Perhaps you would tell how you
adapt to changing seasons, or if you ever counted
dew drops falling to the ground. Would

Evergreens of Low Expectations
Sometimes it seems as if
Everyone has gone to sleep
Even while the sun shines,
And there is no gloom of night.
The world is full of vapid conversation,
Evergreens of low expectations,
Empty thoughts,
Valley girls,
Cups of coffee,
And jiggers of gin.
Poets are waiting
To bring the frozen people,
Kicking and screaming,
Out of the chaos of mindlessness.

The Evergreens
"All night there was an ultra-white moon
and now this must be the inevitable freezing
dawn, orange and bright but blue around the
edges, a waning sun rising above a
sparkling landscape overcome with an
embroidery of black flowers and dwindling
death, which only annoys the evergreens,
ever the philosophical trees, scorning the
riotous existence of lesser plants, who
squander their legacies of light
