Evergreen corpses strewn on sidewalks
like victims of plague,
still adorned with specks of tinsel
abandoned and forlorn
once welcome houseguests now in the street
never to greet another New Year
all the presents unwrapped
put in proper place
beside last years loot of
sweaters, records and notebooks
never got written in
nothing to drink and no money for the bar
the food all gone except for leftovers
that no longer appear appetizing
to the eyes of yuletide withdrawal
I walk down the street
and see no one,
all the decorations down
on television Jimmy Stewart
kisses Donna Reed for eternity
and here I am.

Evergreens
PoetrySoup poetry
an anthology of verse
Poems from every corner
of the whole wide global earth.
A sphere of sheer dynamism
from dawning till day is downed
There are no finer moments
than when poets are around.
Hand-me-downs in history
a legacy left behind
Is what poetry becomes
treasures gifted to mankind.
A rhythmic constellation
starlight gleaming in their genes
Multifaceted poets
PoetrySoup evergreens.

*** Trees ***
With or without their leaves,
Call out to me
Especially with a spiritual mystery
That amplifies as I investigate
And admire the vast variety
Of their beauty —
Borne in the costumes
of their diversity —
Their created, sweeping beauty:
From some with innumerous twigs
shooting straight, clean
Lines — arrows up into the blue;
To others with gnarly branches clearly
Dancing out from trunks— curving freely;
From those with tops rounded completely;
To others forming spiked, rotated V’s,
Like wearing upside-down crinolines,
appearing truly
Wind-tossed so loftily
As to hide their heads,
their crowned peaks;
And,not to be forgotten,
All the evergreens, exquisitely
Full and tall, proud to be seen.
They keep travels looking lush
throughout every
Season, giving a symmetry
To what we see —
From bright to deep,
From city to country —
Over the rolling landscape scenes
Surrounding us where each
Tree stands growing high
Humming a kind of reverie
They, perhaps, want us to glean
Someday as friends in a sharing reality.

RIVER
———————————-
My trail comes to face a wide river
With no bridges to be seen under these
evergreens —
Outdoing one another in height.
No rustling leaves underfoot:
The pines let fall their needles
For years and years, so
I walk over a padded bed of silence
Laid thick upon the earth,
softly, light browns beside
The sparkling…gurgling…never-to-end
Swooshing bustle-rush of the river’s
Blue flowing full with divine signs,
gifts, I am meant
To mark this spot, stop where I stand
Of a glance endowed with inspiration
From nature’s lit beauty
I will paint fast in memory.

Magical aroma brought Christmas into my heart
Reminding me of other scents – cinnamon and gingerbread
What are you doing? He asked, coming out to see.
Smelling the evergreens, I told him.
Their smell reminds me of Grandma’s Christmases, he said.

Evergreens? Evergreens!
In winter,
Windswept debris:
Blue bags, brown paper,
And white string.
Cling to city trees,
Evergreens?
In spring,
Buds bloom to Leaves,
Greening over,
Windswept debris:
Blue bags, brown paper,
and white string.
Evergreens!

Grens Evergreens # 4 Cilla Black Contest
If anyone had a heart
Scotland Road
L5
Back in the 1964
Liverpool's hey day
Where the Beatles began
From hanging coats in the Cavern Club
Surprise , Surprise
Gave rise to Cilla White
If anyone had heart
Written by Burt BacBarack / Hal Davis
1st performed by Dion Warrick
Cilla Black took to another level
Take me in your arms again and love me, too
Until my heart stop's yearning for you
Anyone who had a heart
Wouldn't see us apart
Sat waiting for a lovers call in a Red Phone Box upon a hill
Cold and forlorn
Make all my dreams come true
Like a No 1 hit Record
A new bright star is born
From the banks of the Mersey Shores
Singing to me of Love and Loss
I first bought and played on my record player
And is just as relevant as today
For Teppo Gren

Evergreens, evergreens standing tall; displaying
manifest beauty with every branch and leaf in
place. Oh, what tales you could tell if you were to
speak; tales of the ever-present danger you
have endured. Perhaps you would tell how you
adapt to changing seasons, or if you ever counted
dew drops falling to the ground. Would you ever
mention how many battles you fought to hold that
ground?
Evergreens, evergreens strong and steadfast
in your resolve; through stormy weather,
blazing heat and dewless nights, you stand;
gleaning strength from your immovable
conviction. With boughs reaching out to others
skyward bound; off limits to those close to the
ground. You cover them, over shadow them, so
they will have a chance to grow.
Evergreens, evergreens, forever rendering
aid to those new to the battles you have
endured; giving them strength to withstand
a breach.

Sometimes it seems as if
Everyone has gone to sleep
Even while the sun shines,
And there is no gloom of night.
The world is full of vapid conversation,
Evergreens of low expectations,
Empty thoughts,
Valley girls,
Cups of coffee,
And jiggers of gin.
Poets are waiting
To bring the frozen people,
Kicking and screaming,
Out of the chaos of mindlessness.

Gren’s Evergreens # I
Perry Como And I Love You so..
1. If I am called away, If destiny decrees,
My soul will never stray. I state this on my knees.
2. The love we know is strong, as steadfast as the trees,
that sway and move along, make memories like these.
CHORUS:
And yes, you show me the wonder of it all:
the emerald of spring, the copper glow of fall,
And yes, you know me you answer when I call
your love is always there for me.
3. Some cynics claim to know with tone and tenor grim.
No passion overflows. It stays below the brim.
4. Let poets put to rest love’s thousand sad goodbyes.
We are equal to each test. Such passion never dies.

"All night there was an ultra-white moon
and now this must be the inevitable freezing
dawn, orange and bright but blue around the
edges, a waning sun rising above a
sparkling landscape overcome with an
embroidery of black flowers and dwindling
death, which only annoys the evergreens,
ever the philosophical trees, scorning the
riotous existence of lesser plants, who
squander their legacies of light in desperate
displays of adulation beneath that ruthless
sky and then hysterically scatter seeds upon
an earth that is already hard as steel.
This arctic air arrives with super-sonic messages,
trumpeting that all this false gold and copper
stuff, seeming to flutter like paper money in
their twiggy fingertips, is merely a tribute being
paid, in vain, to those metallic idols who stand
tall knee-deep in mirroring ice and never relent.
On TV just now, the police were yelling, "Freeze!"
and firing their guns at him, but the boy kept on
running because he came from a much hotter
country and he didn't know the meaning of the
word until he was dying among the evergreens."
