Thankful For Thanksgiving - Tanka

thanksgiving is more
more than a dinner to share
we celebrate life

This house is magical
It is a home filled with love
So much joy and happiness
For the world to behold

Thanksgiving every day

Grateful for every year we get together

Died a Life

Unlimited ways to go,
but my feet stepped slow,
leaving me behind
with doubts in my mind,
a strange chaos stood there,
opening doors to nowhere,
My mind trembled to go any far,
neglecting me to go to par.
Life offered me a living,
'twas a thanksgiving,
but I chose not to suspire,
and slowly got used to expire.

As I came to my sense,
I forgot to live thence...

To My Mother On Her Birthday

For My Mother

You are the Thanksgiving bounty to bless
The angel on our Christmas tree
You are summer flowers and winter nests
Birthdays and anniversaries
Handwritten thank you cards and recipes
In despair's cold, your warmth is shown
As the lighted pathway bringing us home
Out of a darkly weary day
You're more love than can fit in a poem
But I'm gonna try, anyway

Year of Thanks

Thanks should be something given all year not just one day in November when friends and family are near thanks for daily health and god given wealth like friends and family and opportunities for change
thanks for the faith and strength to stick to who I am meant to be and thanks for not letting failures of this year redefine me
Motives for thanks are different from person to person the voice of the crowd is louder then one Thanksgiving is the day were the ultimate thanks is done

The Playoffs Claim October

Christmas season's in December
  Thanksgiving weekend's in November
The Playoffs claim October, Halloween aside
True-blue baseball fans all aboard for the ride

Combatants' senses sharp, nerve ends tingle
  Concessionaire's cash pockets jingle
Green diamond fields - hoary haunts of yesteryear
Fading memories of heroes past - atmosphere

The tension mounts before each game
  Players ante up for fame
Emotions yo-yo - stomach's butterflies
'Play ball!' the call ~ It's do or die

To Be

A place where
waves don't crash
against sand...

Where mountains eclipse the cloud line
and sayings thrust themselves in midair

Floating back toward shores
made of distinction
and colorful stones
what was said becomes gratitude

Love is what thanksgiving is for
Beauty is love's primary description
Mood swing does not exist...here.

Faith so real
Science so skilled
that honesty smiles sympathetic
regret frowns a domicile
and courage sees more of an actuality
So...much happens

In a place presence aches for.

Mother's Day

Mother's day
A day for reflection
A day for rejoicing
A day of thanksgiving

Mother's day
A day of understanding
A day of appreciating
A day of acknowledging

Mother's day
A day memorializing all the suffering
of giving birth and the joy of becoming a mother.
A day remembering the miracle of giving life.
A day symbolizing life.

Mother's day
A day of remembering responsibilities and
hard work that can never be repaid.
A day that will never be forgotten.
God's blessing upon you.
Happy Mother's day.

Thanksgiving Memory Contest Thanks

As I look up to all
Small in statue small I was
No food on the table
Nothing to eat this Thanksgiving Day

No television and no parades
Christmas was looking bleak
Holes in my pants cold at night
A knock on the door

Strangers are what I see
Holding a bounty of food to eat
Laughter and tears my family had
Deep emotions inside

Through the kindness of others
This thanksgiving dinner
Brought cheers of glee
So today I say thank you

To those strangers I never knew

Thanksgiving 1999 Thanks

Sometimes it’s hard to choose one memory
to deem the most significant of all.
Thanksgiving, though, is different. I find
that one by far is sweetest to recall.

Thanksgiving 1999 would be
the final holiday we all would share.
We feasted, talked, and dozed all afternoon.
The next year, there would be one empty chair.

Our dying father wouldn’t make it through
the holidays. Though life would never be
the same, I smile remembering that last
Thanksgiving all the family would see.

Ignored

I am not innocent or that significant
I learned it the hard way
I am excellent…maybe a bit brilliant
But, I need humility today

When I talk, it feels like no one really listens
Ignored again and thrown into garbage bins
I had a rather wonderful Thanksgiving though
The precious sun and moon were all aglow

I am not innocent or that significant
I am excellent…maybe a bit brilliant
But, I need humility today
I learned it the hard way

I had a rather wonderful Thanksgiving though
Ignored again and thrown into garbage bins
When I talk, it feels as if no one truly listens
The precious sun and moon were all aglow

How I Need Jesus

Dear Jesus… I realize
how much I really need you!
  I want to honor,
love and trust you!

I know that others will
disappoint me…
I know that you’re here….
And will take care of me!

  Your principles of holy
living is what you taught!
Love, Joy and peace…
is what you brought!

 May I bring honor
 to your name!
Your message of salvation,
I need to proclaim!

Dear Jesus… You’re all I need!
 And so much more!
It’s you that my life
was meant for!

I offer to you, my lord,
praise and thanksgiving!
For all you’ve done,
 And the life you’re giving!

You all I’ll ever need!
The anointed one!
There’s victory in YOU!
Life’s battles are won!

Thanksgiving

The smell of turkey fills the house
and the mind and tongue are consumed
with memories and scents of holidays passed.

The aroma is so familiar with images of Gramma in the kitchen
basting that succulent bird and all the sides
as it tingles taste buds with unbearable anticipation.

The feast most promising with recaptured pictures, football games
and stuffing, biscuits, cranberries, and mashed potatoes
made with tender care and love to await family gathering.

Those days seem long gone now, lost to past celebrations
but the mind and heart remain full forever
with laughter, joy, love and those heartfelt memories
at Thanksgiving.

My Potholder

I looked at my potholder an thought about
The many years it has been around
In my head I brought it to life, like the time
I imagined that it was dunk on New Year's day
When it soaked up all the wine and alcohol
That had been spilled on the table
It also caught fire on Thanksgiving day
When it was accidently
Left lying on top of a hot burner
Ooh, that had to leave scorch marks
For Christmas I imagine that the poor little thing
Tried to push open the oven door when
It was accidently left inside with the cookie sheet
It was also in a brawl when a hungry husband
Gets slap across the face with it, for sampling food
If my potholder could speak
It would say plenty

Once Upon a Timer

If we had fifty seconds to live
what would you tell me?

Would you use me as a vessel of confessions
or would you tell me things you once wished only I knew
Would you cry to your aunt,
apologizing for not kissing her last Thanksgiving?
Or would you apologize to me,
for crushing my heart a million years ago?

Would you scream and beg for more time
Or would you hold my hand
convince me that you are happy to die by my side?
Would you kiss me for lust in your final moments
or would you give me time to empty my soul

Would you lie
and say you always have loved me?

I guess I'll never know
I have much more
than fifty seconds.
I have the rest of my life
to fight the memory of you.

I Remember

I remember this thanksgiving when my life had been change
God came and rescued me and life has never been the same
I learned the true meaning of giving thanks
It wasn't about the house I have , or my money in the bank

I remember celebrating early this thanksgiving morning with my brother's and sisters in the Lord
We were all on one accord
Sharing and telling all the marvelous things God has done for each of us
Encouraging one another in God we must keep our trust

I remember this thanksgiving finish preparing the food
Waiting for the family to come and let them know why we truly should celebrate
The true reason of giving thanks on this Thanksgiving day

I remember that from this day on no matter what comes or go
I must give THANKS!!!

Self-Exploration

With lens of faith I plunged into a momentous expedition… there my vision beheld radiant life-filled heart freely revolving around thanksgiving galaxy beautified with serenity lights illumined by blissful worship rays while emitting service beams--- Then I heard gracious voice of the soul: “Welcome to my private universe of love’s domain enclosed with God’s compassion* and mercy transcending eternity’s space…” humbled, I asked forgiveness being guilty of selfishness--- yet, yearning for spiritual revival.
