A Small Crowd

Fallen leaves knuckled
below eddies float again
swiftly shimmering.

Rain withers with gray
asphalt rising. Curbs cement
puddles running still.

Sunlit raindrops stop
hissing at guttural moans
tickling us for laughs.

Summer Scents

Each mote of dust that floats airborne
eddies on the light cool balmy breeze
ushered from wide open window
fragrancing the house with summer scents.

Eddies on the light cool balmy breeze,
posies perfuming and performing
petals swishing by outside, free and alive.

Ushered from wide open window
pollen clouds wafts and wanes
settling a scintilla of ochre magic, sill deep.

Fragrancing the house with summer scents
banishing all the stale still murky air
invigorating all within.

Niagara Falls

Aboard the Maid of the Mist, drenched from the spray,
Approaching Niagara Falls, I gaze in awe
At this wondrous sight of the renowned cataract,
Cascading fervently over the precipice
And violently crashing down upon the rocks
In a roiling boil is mesmerizing to see.

And behold! Out of the mist a rainbow appears,
Arching a span over the turbulent waters
From where thunderous roars are heard and eddies swirl
As if the heavens opened: “The Rapture is here!”
With angels descending to carry Christians home.

And I am small amongst giants (walking in the world
Defenceless against nature’s challenging forces),
Who will read “Insignificant” etched in my headstone.
Unlike those who think their works will last forever,
I’m like Niagara, trickling into the future.

There's a river meandering through the mind

Vast as a landscape, not a straight but a meandering one
Sometimes placid sometimes storms, but always moving
It is alive; always flowing getting lost in eddies of distraction
Sense of timelessness flowing for millennia, shaping the earth
Thoughts shape you like a quiet meditation on introspection
It doesn’t always follow a straight path and takes its time.

Premium MemberThe Bride

A serene sunset paints the alluvium at the shore line in tones reminiscent of a blushing bride. The glassy surface of the lake reflects the gently swaying of a lone tree. Whispers of wind weave through the willows, sharing secrets of yesteryear. Each gentle gust carries a chorus of memories, softly sung by the wind's lament. The trailing weeping willow tree branches sweeping the water are dripping with her tears, trying not to merge with the discarded bouquet swirling in the eddies at her feet. Thankfully, the timeless beauty of nesting birds returning in the twilight creates a moment of pure, peaceful perfection.

We journeyed then as whim behooved,
Our lives were eddies, wind and play;
Great hearts were we, so far removed
Whence any mortal thought might stray.
And sunlight streamed upon our souls,
And starlight to the distance played;
As softly lapping water lulls,
I would it were and never fade.
For we on honeydew had fed,
And with the winter winds were wed,
And so, like clouds of August sped
Across the wondrous sea.
And many dulcet days there fell,
And many harbors sheathed our bow,
And many marvels might I tell,
If tapered time would but allow.

Penitence

I went there at my own risk,
Destiny played an ugly trick.

Whirling like Eddies,
Tough and the unsteadies.

An unknown fear,
Nothing is that easier.

I haven’t played yet,
Time has no reversal gate .

So terrifying and disturbing ,
No end to these struggling.

Hearing a divine voice,
Echoes you and your choice.

Entered into being tempted,
Mistakes were restored and repeated.

Own selection and recreation,
Can’t expect an exemption.

I believe in natural justice,
Lives in harmony and peace.

Then a deep silence,
And a lifelong penance.

Soul seeks redemption,
To attain immortal salvation.

Whitewater

Foaming water, hard to see,
raft rocketing rapidly,
constant roaring on the air,
everything soaked, toe to hair,
paddles plunge and the bow shifts
slowly through the angry mists,
shoots past rocks, and eddies white,
the river drops out of sight,
stomach lurches, I feel tall,
plunge down a small waterfall,
splash hard in a swirling pool,
spun ’round as if on a spool,
hard strokes bring a quick escape,
into safer waters break,
boys are cheering, there is that,
it was their idea to raft.

Premium MemberWhen Raindrops Fall

Pitter patter on rain polished pavements
Tears straggling down window panes
The rattle of ricocheting raindrops on galvanised rooftops
Spiralling eddies in bull's eye puddles
Umbrellas ,shields fending off the sharpness
Of blasts of non-stop water bullets
Insidiously a soft drizzle penetrates
Right through to the skin
Producing shivery limbs
And chattering teeth
Transformed by the sun into glittering diamonds
Which disappear with the welcome arc of the rainbow.

Premium MemberSpontaneity

One day, as I sat musing
Matter at hand, confusing

Nothing came to me enforced
No matter how much coerced

Effort was there, intent too
Ideas not coming through

Seemed to me a mental block
Not knowing how to unlock

Lacked in spontaneity
Frozen till eternity

Nothing had worked until fear
gripped me as I shed a tear

Just then the cogs of life turned
Things fell in place as I yearned

The cobwebs began to clear
Out of self-doubts, I could steer

Ebbs and eddies receded
Swiftly gained ground conceded

Sharp mind's spontaneity
Removed my anxiety

Case of serendipity
Resolved my old self-pity

I was searching for power
But discovered fair flower

Things now come naturally
Deal with 'I' rationally

Ideas now come in droves
My spontaneity shows

Spontaneity in life
Happiness even in strife

Life in full with better half
You're never short of a laugh

("Still Life", 2021, original encaustic)

Speaking in Tongues

I like speaking
To the sky, to the earth
To my dogs, and wife and kids.
It’s the sound of a babbling brook
Flowing in cascades and eddies
Rushing to the sea.
Of course such language of the heart
Is deeply encoded
In these hard, angular, abstract edges,
But those edges are in turn
Worn down, softened and smoothed
By the yielding force of the flow.

I like speaking
In whatever tongues
The world can show.

Premium MemberIf It wasn't for Poetry

When I lay anguished with all my muscles aching
And my mind plunging into the eddies of grief,
Poetry came to me as an unexpected guest, as a whiff of breeze.
It was like spotting an oasis in the sterility of a blistering desert.

What scope poetry provided me, soon I happily discerned.

It decorated my emotions with personalized symbols.
Images varied came dancing to my great surprise.
Music arrived soothing to embellish, energize and overwhelm.
Then my chest heavy with melancholic thoughts
Opened to layers and layers of positive thoughts,
Transcending the bounds of hard-hitting realities.

My eyes opened to the charm of nature conjuring up celestial images,
And I started versifying every thought n’ scene in rhythmic notes.
.
Never more the surging tears flowed out from my eyes.
My rampaging despair got vaporized, making a hasty retreat,
Like an enemy vanquished and its bugle falling silent.

Poetry, turn not your face on me, fill me with rhyme!
Had it not been for you and your mesmerizing charms,
I could never have broken free of the fetters,
That chained my captive, melancholy-stricken heart.

Celafid Namoyll

Humours turn acrid near
The silent seer.

Escaping absentees scamper
Further down the hole that holds their likeness
Extinguish | fatal obscurant | visions.

                | fata obscura |

Of thriving, lively fauna

Prostrate to impelling images

Schizoid prognostic narratives

Told through the burning lens.

Up above somewhere;

Unmade's secret eddies meet the Void's effacing means

Flickery shades mar anthropic soil

Never-beens, vestiges, cloud-faced mutes

Watch, sneer, hiss from interstitial galas

Covet your unearned gift of certain being

All skies slide to promenade our spaces

In front of that greatest-deep mirror

Most cower at the approach.

Croatoan, Boskopoid, Nephilim ires boil, rise

Evaporate.

Thin air marks their omphalos.

Sinews worn down and slumped in buried peat

Undisturbed lighthouses scry

Souls echo Xibalba's memory

Nulled sheets linger over its impossibility.

No divine clap can hide the noise of nothing.

No resplendent scheme can stop time's voyage surely ebbing.

Never will you win in wagers against the real.
