On Chanukah we dreidel spin
And chocolate gelt we hope to win.
If we get Gimel ‘stead of Shin,
Let’s celebrate tonight.
We eat some latkes, oil-fried,
Which balabustas* made with pride,
With applesauce served on the side,
Our smiles sweet and bright.
At sundown as the candles glow
We tell the tale of long ago
And sing the Dreidel song we know,
Our spirits free and light.
We open presents, wrapped with care
To see the gifts well-hidden there;
With so much love for all to share,
It’s Chanukah, all right!

Sink and rise
float away, swim back.
Mood swings its legs over a trapeze once more.
There's a pill for that and this
but what ails is so out of date
that it forgets its name.
Body awareness fowls its anchor.
Mind games checked by dead-lead checkers.
Go to the Casino
blow it all. win some...don't care.
Take the damn pill...now we all care.
Wine or beer? Jack D, keep the change,
Choices, who needs em?
Got a railway track to run on
wide-eyed and fished out of a gene pool
white knuckles beached on a dark moon.
Shallow is the breath of this whirring dreidel.
It's a Saturday night and out of talky time,
check the gun - unload it
oil it. Put it away for now.
Rise, subside, wave while you wipe-out,
swim back to where you were.

the primrose sin of long unwaxing days
hours religious as a dreidel
in near earth orbit
we pluck dry flowers
like flirting genesis
like writing the noon-day Bible
and dispel a magic
we’d long forgotten wrote.

Light the candles, flames so bright
Chanukah's here eight days and nights
Spin the dreidel 'round and 'round
Potato latkes frying, yummy sounds
A few coins for the kinder
Precious silver gelt
Chanukah's a minor festival
~ deeply felt

A happy minor holiday
That's what Chanukah was
'Till its proximity to Christmas
gave it an American buzz
In days of old, we lit the candles
Spun the dreidel** for mere pennies --
Now with ceremonies in the public square
and lavish presents, oh-so-many
Chanukah's theme of dedication
~ Does there remain any?
** a dreidel is Yiddish for a spinning top

I tried to eat a baseball cap
A dreidel and some lumber
Some beetles and a monkey trap
And now this swell cucumber.

A rare confluence of events
Is happening tonight
To fill both Jews and Christians
With a feeling of delight.
At sunset Chanukah begins;
Two candles thus will glow,
While Christmas brings excitement,
Knowing Santa Claus will show.
All celebrants will gather
With their kith and kin to feast.
There'll be gossip, gifts and goodies,
Greedy waistlines thus increased.
So to all who'll spend this evening
With the dreidel or the tree,
Here's a happy merry greeting
Flowing straight to you from me.

When Christmas music blasts in stores,
It jangles all my nerves.
I really do not understand
The purpose that it serves.
Such gaiety seems forced and fake,
Especially to me,
‘Cause I’m not one to celebrate
With wreath or Christmas tree.
But recently inside a shop
The dreidel song did blare.
You’d think I’d be excited
By a happening so rare.
However, you’d be wrong
For the reaction that I had
Was that songs of Chanukah, in stores,
Sound equally as bad!

Happy Thanksgivukkah!
Latkes and turkey!
Protocol here is
A little bit murky.
It hasn't happened
For thousands of years
And we'll all be dead
Before it reappears.
So watch all your football
And spin your best dreidel.
Slurp up that pumpkin soup
With some kneidel.
Savor these holidays;
Celebrate twice,
'Cause having Thanksgivukkah's
'Specially nice!

Oh winter has come today
and Ole Santa has greased up his sleigh
he no buffoon so he's packed a stuffed loon
and long john with a dreidel bouquet.
He not going to Canada cause
Chris A. writ a sourpuss clause
banning Santa's banter, his reindeers canter
and demeaning Ole Santa because????
Well, Santa is sweet and he's good
he knows he's made up and Chris should!
But apparently Chris A. has Claus envy they say
or perhaps it's what's under Santa's hood?
Oh winter has come today
and the ding dongs are out to play
so watch out Chris A., leave Santa alone!
if you must pick a fight, watch out for drones!!

Hanukkah is a time for presents, potatoes and dreidels,
Everyone has fun, even babies in cradles,
They can watch the dreidel spin, and spin and spin,
until they view stars in everything,
Little presents make days and nights happier,
with potato latkes adorning the tables,
The chidren spin the dreidels while
participating in all their activities
getting a rouse out of all their relatives,
The dreidel spins from the past,
the future and the present,
creating a joyous environment,
and a glimpse into the future,
Watching themselves spinning,
and spinning the dreidel until
they are very mature.

I am in love with mystery
What makes an clock loud to silence but quiet to sound
Can we taste the clouds rain has burst from
Touch the hearts of sinners for remorse
June is my friend
And so is May
But when I sat to think about it...
So is every month
When it was hot I enjoyed the salt my sweat makes
Just the right seasoning to a summers day
When it's cold I will run like a child
Through the snowy mountain caps
Singing Christmas songs and spinning a dreidel
I remember the boy I will kiss
Puckering up to a potential greater than puberty
Dancing to the thunder as it claps a standing ovation
I am in love with the moments when a scholar is lost at words
I am infatuated with priests who pray silently
I am the holder of the forgotten
And the descendent of the mystery
Rise and be what makes them ill
Shall always make me smile
