(I apologize, as I have been busy writing a novel
and have not posted poetry for a long time!
I pray you, forgive my absence, and read this
little contribution, written with heart!)
Dost Thou, in seeking Love, mistake Romance
For Love’s sweet angel, calling out to thee?
Romance is but a dull fellow, who pants
And huffs and barks incessant, up the tree!
But Love, O Love’s a King in beggar’s clothes,
Who sits at th’ gate each day, to see the Queen—
And when she rides forth, he presents a rose
‘Tis all that he may do—his heart is clean!
For she hath sworn her beauty and her heart
To another King than he, greater, and kind
Who hath won her troth by simple, honest art
And purity and gentleness of mind.
O, do not with Romance, elope, and find
Love’s greater Beauty lost, and fallen behind!

I am dumbfounded when I watch thy command
The sun, the moon and stars obey,
The dawn and the dusk, the day,
The night, sky and air—
They follow each other,
Thy flowers with smell, fruits with juice,
The pleasing earth, and her water and songs—
Everyone has equal rights to share on them,
Yellow, black and white, the mankind thou hast created –
It was thy wish! Those colors Thou knowest well,
But we do not, Fault is ours!
Together shall we enjoy this earth
Thou hast bestowed on us, the umbilical cord
Of the mother earth linked us on
The first day of our creation as thou didst desire,
Thine precious bliss we may achieve by being patient,
Strenuously we should strive to be on a straight path,
Though that path is flanked by cactus thorns,
We are forgiven again and again,
Indeed our intellect fails to expound
Thy unfathomable mercy, O God!
I hold high my cup of joy for the love I received
from thee my Lord, my love alone found thee,
Thou dost exist so nearby me!

Ye dosto ki dosti
Yaaron ki yaari
Kabhi naa bhul payenge hum
Ae khuda rakhna mere doston ko hamesha salaamat
Aur tumse kuch naa lenge hum
Kyunki unki khushi se hi khush ho jayenge hum

I live my
life playing
music for
the merchant.
I live my
life praying
for the
merchant.
All night
hoping he
would care.
Until he walks
the crystal
stair.

Black, be not white, though some have shined thee
Mighty and colorful, for thou art not hue;
For those whom thou painted thou dost know,
Chroma not, poor Black, nor yet taint thou smear me.
From dark and grey, which but thy pictures be,
Much light; then from thee much dust must flow,
And tint our best hue with value do go,
Rest of their highlights, and indigo’s delivery.
Thou art absence to fate, solid, contentedness, and desperate sun,
And dost with eraser, splice, and dull dwell;
And flashy charms can make green sleep as glow
And shape than thy stroke; why intersect thou flow?
One pink sleep past, purple equals eternally,
And black shall be no more; Black, thou shall shine.
