In This Space
Do we occupy only one space?
Could Schrodinger be right?
Can we be both dead and alive at once?
Can we be in more than one place at the same time?
Is our fate determined by random subatomic events?
Are we here or there or both?
Are there doppelgangers of us both good and bad?
Creating chaos or living for good at the same moment?
Is there one or more of me?
If there is I hope he or they have better luck than I do.
Heisenberg was “uncertain” and so am I.

Now it is dark January and the crows are singing.
A river runs through my heart,
where thoughts drown too soon.
My mind plucks old green hats,
out of the frosted air.
the hats belong to dead leprechauns,
doppelgangers lost at sea, trying to get here,
to be me.
Sometimes the sky is too brilliant,
it hurts old wounds.
Today the sky is a grey gun,
and as hard as gallstones.
January tramples over snowmen
scatters then into phantom blizzards
or stickmen, holy thorns of dark brier
crowning their twig-pointed heads.
Soon this freeze-framed pantomime,
will be known as February.
The birds will die and recover,
and so shall I.

In this world where echoes dance and shift,
Lies a tale of metamorphosis, a mystic rift.
Women, once adorned in femininity's grace,
Embrace a transformation, a haunting embrace.
With curious twist, their essence unfolds,
As doppelgangers emerge, their tales untold.
Manes turn rugged, voices deep and strong,
And lactation's gift, an anomaly so long.
In their eyes, a journey of duality blooms,
The yin and yang entwined, casting vibrant plumes.
They stride with a newfound strength, heads held high,
Fulfilling roles reversed, defying reasons why.
Yet amidst this enchantment, let love remain,
A sacred bond that transcends, undimmed by the change.
For though forms transform, souls stay true,
In the realm of doppelgangers, love's colors renew.

She is with me now
Haunting my every movement
Wanting to be seen
Remaining invisible
Doppelgangers are present

From others’ looks and lips
And between the rustle of papers
I pick up this goody-goody mask.
I carry it to the office
To the hotel and streets
I will not be I there-minus that.
And when gravel grate
Under my bare and weary feet
Gasping for breath in the searing heat
To myself I am back
Rid of that coward’s mask
For it doesn’t go with sweat and dirt.

A poem about doppelgangers,
I had to look the meaning up.
Before you can begin to drink
there must be something in the cup.
My Oxford dictionary
covered it with just one line.
“Apparition or double of living person,”
not much for a poem guideline.
So next I turned to the Internet.
Found an answer I woudn’t have guessed.
“Another person with the same name.”
I liked that answer the best.
For now I know of doppelgangers
who follow me all around.
One has the same doctor that I have
and in my records is found.
Another goes to the library,
takes out books she fails to return.
When I get hit with a whopping fine,
I usually do a slow burn.
Then there is the same name poet
who kept getting mixed up with me.
We each have to use an initial
when submitting our poetry.
Writing about the eerier doppelgangers
is something I don’t want to try,
for it’s said if you see your ghost double
it means you are going to die.
