The leek will sit with pride upon that hat;
and, yes, a daffodil’s another plant.
The two are often worn, so let us chat
about St David’s Day – or Dewi Sant.
This prelate was a Christian and we know
he was a bishop and the son of Non,
and grandson of a king, said to be so,
that king, we’re told, of Ceredigion.
St David will be found within stained glass.
There’s also a cathedral named for him.
It’s hard to miss St David as we pass
and some will even hum a well-known hymn.
Ah yes, we rather like the daffs and leeks,
could wear the daffs or eat those leeks for weeks.

(appeared in Carmarthen, Wales, UK, library on 1 March, which is St David's Day, St D being the Patron Saint of Wales, d. 589 AD)

Daffodils were bobbing,
I never thought to ask why?
January was the coldest -
dreams don't care
and the yellow trumpets
were almost speaking
and I almost listening.
However, sex got through
this bucolic view,
the daffs turned
into a belly dancer
I once admired in Luxor.
Now I am being scolded
by a demi-god with goat horns
on his curly head. It's not happy
with my expansive outlook.
I need a fifth gear in a dream car,
a vehicle roomy enough
for both a bed of daffodils
and a rather plumb Egyptian lady.
The goat guy can take a hike.

A strong wind blew and the whole town knew
This storm intended trouble
A crashing sound upon the ground
My chimney stack was rubble
The daffs by the highways were all growing sideways
And I heard my gardener cry
Because he had never and neither had I
Seen a greenhouse fly
And then there were screams, the vicar it seems
Thought he was Mary Poppins
His brolly went down - so did he with a frown
Preceded by his droppings
I, by golly, clung to my brolly
And I soared like an eagle
And then I saw the vicar bounce
Off Westminster Cathedral
Fences were flattened all over the town
And many trees were down
A wheelie bin rolled up the street
And past the rose and crown
And then the wind dropped
My brolly flight stopped
And I had to face a new truth
My landing had led
Straight into my bed
It seemed I would need a new roof

Spring has sprung at last
Lambs gambolling free
New shoots fresh and green
Bulbs give birth to blooms
Daffs in all my rooms
My spirit soars
From winters gloom
Sun permeates
In every room
Skies of blue
Lots to do
Dreams anew
See friends
Find peace
Spring

"Winter season"
Halloween and bonfire night have been and gone,
And Christmas is around the corner
The frost and snow still to come
And we will all be wishing it warmer
Must start shopping for presents
Need a new cooker old one has decided to break down
Cake to make, mince pies too
Marzipan, icing decorated with a christmas tree and reindeer
Sprinkles here and there and ribbons all around
Christmas tree to put up and decorate
Tinsel and baubles all around,
Don't forget the lights, may need new ones again
And hoping the kittens dont pull it to the ground
Turkey to order, sausage and bacon to make pigs in blankets
Don't forget the stuffing and cranberry sauce
The 12 days of christmas are now over
New year, resilutions promises to keep
Stop smoking, loose weight,
help people in need that you meet
Soon we will be looking at our garden
Books to hand , seed catalogues
To order seeds familiar and new
Sweet peas already sown
Need to prune the roses back
All the dead tops and make room
For the daffs and snowdrops to pop up
And show their springtime blooms

I bought some potted daffodils
To grace my windowsill.
Their yellow brightness warms the room
As flowers always will.
They’ll only last a week or two
But how my soul does dance
Each time that golden color
Draws me in for one quick glance.
I’ve made myself a promise
That I hope that I can keep –
That flowers will be waiting
When I rise and go to sleep.
I’ve reached the point in life
Where what I really understand
Is how vital it can be to have
Such beauty close at hand.

Spring is here!!........ its very name, sets our hearts aglow,
all dormant life springs into action, after Winter's icy blow,
the harsher that frosty Season, the more we welcome Spring,
with its rejuvenating vigour, our World begins to sing.
As if passing through a 'Seasonal Gate', there's a secret Eden of pleasure,
suddenly we're surrounded by throbbing life, full of colourful treasure,
gambolling new born lambs, very light upon their feet,
bounding away to test new freedom, but not too far from Mother's bleat!
Crocus, Daffs and Snowdrops clamour for us to view,
Narcissi and Tulips in new Spring robes declare, 'we are in this too'!
a stimulant to young love, and sometimes not so young, this Season is a joy,
for this is how the World's gone round, since Adam was a boy.
Mother Nature has re-awakened, and donned her festive gown,
her glorious Show proclaims to all, she still wears her sparkling crown,
we thank you our dear lady, and, as so many times before,
when your Springtime's come along, you make our spirits SOAR!!.

Mary , Mary quite contrary
How did my garden grow ?
You know darned well
It's just been hell
With Winter's frost and snow .
Bought expensive seeds
That were colored weeds
That grew and grew some more
So , just like I said
It is wrecking my head
And my green finger is getting sore .
My daffs were a laugh
And my posies can't pose
The buttercups all turned sour.
The ducks in the pond
Are beyond the beyond
And the ivy is poison , for sure .
My frog , Mr. Toad
Took to the road
To meet a Princess
Who is loaded with cash .
I'm sore , sad and sick
Because of Reykjavik
What ain't weeds
Is now covered in ash .
Inspired for Dane-Ann's garden contest .
