When it comes to sport
Memory is notoriously short
Tennis great Jimmy Connors was 'the brat' when teen-aged
By his late thirties, his star ascended, he was all the rage
His rival, John McEnroe, young and precocious
Had a temper to match -- fiery, ferocious
Now a network analyst, admired and respected
From his mouth only 'pearls of wisdom' are projected
Then there's Tiger, the mighty golfer, Tiger Woods
Who cheated on his lovely wife every way a man could
Disgraced and discredited, he landed in jail
His name and his game gone, no wind in his sail
Yet here we are, a few years later, in 2018
Seeing Tiger's face every day on our TV screens
Playing golf again with panache and verve
Millions wildly cheering his muscular curves
What is it here that should really irk-us?
We forget these guys are nothing but jerks
I am a drudge-mad caroler,
Singing my songs of sadness to anyone
Who will listen.
I am not the only one in this house who is
Missing her, with feelings of sorrow for
One who has recently been lost,
But will never be forgotten.
