Rests in the moonlight
Coconut tree tanned by sun
watched by languid sea
The tall coconut trees
Resemble pillars
Erected like lamp poles
Spred like umbrellas
Stand in a row
Towering above the equatorial sea shore
Welcoming tourists
Applauding the coming back of the fishermen
Dancing in the dusk and moonlight
Amidst the disco music of the sea
Have long forgotten the strike of Tsunami
He climbs up rhythmically
keeping his legs
within a ring of rope
like his life.
Intuition assures
the ripeness;
life-nut falls down
from the tree top.
Just a slip
will end in all end,
but practice
rarely slips.
Though the ways are hackneyed,
he’s honeyed and free
under his calluses.
Morrows and yesterdays,
he never climbs upon.
He hugs today, green and yellow
like the coconut tree leaves.
and like a shark you must keep moving forward
bare your teeth – lest mistaken for a coward
be ruthless – or you’ll drown in your sorrows
only the strong will live to fight again tomorrow
swimming through longevity for eternity – an ocean
paradise just over the horizon – an oasis beacons
an Island of treasure – wealth beneath the waves
the human condition is – to never arrive alive!
dreams do come true in life – only for the brave
life is through before it even begins – for the slave
master your own destiny – choose to be free
as the ocean wind that blows the coconut tree
Curved coconut tree
holds a ballerina pose
worthy of applause
The dark shade of the coconut tree...
Leaves an eerie silence in me...
While I stare through the window in dead midnight...
Looking for some comfort in the darkness quiet...!
It has dark foliage...dark fruits...
Dark like the soil behind the roots...
Dark like darkness...dark like Hell...
Sinister like the sound of death-knell...!
Some invisible bird...
with its dark dark voice...
Disturbs the Night's tranquil poise...
And a gust of wind...like a water-stream...
Diffuses to my night & dream...
Dark dreams....dark thoughts again....
Like the unheard yell of the tree in pain....!
As though I'm the tree's lone translator...
To read & write about its dark dark chatter...!
