Love Songs On a Bike, In the Cold, and At Night

I was listening to some songs of love
On my way home from work
It was dark
And cold
I just had my little phone flashlight
No coat
And about two miles of hills ahead of me

And it turns out
When you ride your bike
In the cold
With songs of love
And at night
They turn into songs of tragedy
With about two miles ahead of you

But then I looked up at the sky
And I saw the stars
And I remembered
That it was okay, actually
And that I had chosen this

So unless you can look up and see the stars
Don't go riding at night
In the cold
Listening to songs of love
With about two miles ahead of you

Dawn Pond

Mallards sleepily dabble
in a smudge of water.
Then an emerging sun flares
from its coatless face.
Like dipping ducks,
muddy shadows dive
under mounds of stalky flotsam.
Vista’s crack open
their levees of light.

A Rainy April Day

A Rainy April Day

Like rolling pebbles on rooftops,
Gentle thunder welcomed a gentler rain;
The Lord gave a coatless Easter, but knew
Emerald grass and foliage thirst, so
Waited ‘til Friday morning,
To send a book-reading soft rain.
How silent it sounded as it fell,
How peaceful was the day
Of the mellow April rain.

I Will Be Your Man

Hold me just a little tighter

run your fingers through my thinning hair

whisper all your deepest secrets

let's make loneliness disappear

don't drift away before the stroke of midnight

I don't want our day to end

cherish our once upon a time

for with you everyday is perfect

my dearest my friend

forgive me if I'm distant

and mind seems many miles away

it's trying to map out a future

and how you can forever stay

delve inside me dear

deep past the kisses and words

wrap yourself around my being

listen closely

let that inner-child be heard

create candy-floss moments with me

jump in muddy puddles and run coatless in the rain

not caring about tomorrows

throwing out the window

that we have to act prim, proper, or plain

take my hand

walk with me along the seashore

past the drifting and blowing sands

into the never ending sunset

 you be my woman

I will be your man

Southern Christmas Ya'Ll(Usa)

Sleighbells ring are you kidding?
In the lane sun is shining
It's a beautiful sight, I'm coatless tonight.
Walking in the southern Christmas air.

In the meadow we will build a manger.
In the south they aren't a stranger.
We're happy tonight when we see the sights.
Walking in the southern Christmas air.

On the highways you'll see a hay sculpture
We pay to take a decorative light tour
We're happy tonight when we see the lights.
Walking in the southern Christmas air.

Walking in the southern Christmas (warm) air.

Sung to the tune of Walking in a Winter Wonderland.
Everyone is invited to add a verse or improve mine.
Sara Kendrick helped me write this one. Thanks, Mom!!

As Winter Slips Away

It's another Sunday morning
Coffee's drunk and breakfast's down
The kitchen hearth's a bed of coals
And the cat is warm and round

There's dishes in the washer
And the day is gettin' on
It's not exactly coatless
But it seems the wind is gone

So we'll take a walk together
Down the dirt road through the woods
And by the time we get back home again
We'll both be feelin' good

The sun on Sunday mornin'
Is a blessing that we take
To taste Spring air and know we're there
In this heaven that we make

The humming birds are coming
For the days are warmin' up
The coffee pot's not empty yet
I'll just pour another cup
