Butterscotch for me
The best as you will see
So brown and sweet
A masterful treat
With flavor flowing free

For Carolyn
By Carolyn Devonshire & James Marshall Goff
My hand
Wet with tears pouring down my face
Reaches out and finds nothing
Empty spaces where familiar voices
Once comforted me
My only hope
Is sleep, where dreams, in sketchy
Re-wind, promise a glimpse of lost
Loved ones, maybe a voice, if fleeting
Even, to soothe me
Those still with me
Look to me for strength, my motor
Memory urging me on, focusing
On the well, deep in my heart,
Cycle renews
Another beloved soul passes
Light they find
But darkness they leave behind
Grief
Hungry monster
Selfishly consumes my life
Devours all glimmers of hope
Leaving me
Destitute on a perilous plane
Mere existence
Not life as it once was
Sanity
Confronting memories, loneliness
Trek on an unbalanced bridge
Connecting life and death
Emotions purged
Shadows of yesterday surround me
Wisdom of loved ones
Permeate my thoughts
Filled
With clear vision, handed down to me
From my ancestors

My Butterscotch Sundae
Butterscotch sundae, with a long spoon, in a tall glass.
Sitting at the sparkling, clean fountain, a little pig-tailed
girl of eight in a white pinafore with class.
And though the dancing decades have passed me way
far too fast.
I still see myself at that beloved fountain, grateful
for another year at last.
Surely, I miss the safety, the innocence, the godliness of
decades past.
But for now? I will relish each cooling taste of my favorite
butterscotch sundae's most delicious repast!

butterscotch is still a friend of mine
i close my eyes and let the savored flavor take me for a ride
the journey leads me to times when there were no cares in the world
ice cream dipped into a place only the center of the tongue can comprehend
pudding prepared to a delicacy that the definition of 'creamy' does it no justice
candies that expose sunshine to the inside of your mouth
no time machine can compare to an underrated, most tasteful find
because of that fact, butterscotch is still a friend of mine....

holding hands, just my love and I
gazing into the great Wyoming sky
what looked to me like a giant balloon
was indeed a golden ecliptic moon
looking up at the giant lost balloon
thoughts of grabbing onto its tail
laughing and running, hand in hand
with a butterscotch moon fast on our trail
it seems so close I can almost taste it
this butterscotch moon before our eyes
I reach up to the sky realizing I can't make it
this yummy morsel before our eyes
at first it looked just like vanilla
all smooth and creamy and mellow
but as the earth's shadow moved
its color changed to a deeper yellow
as the darkening shadow creeps on by, I'm reminded
darkness fades, we have new craves, changes of heart
whether it's giant balloons or butterscotch moons
we're all God's most precious, perfect art

Once I had an orange and white striped kitty
Who looked like a butterscotch candy
She was a Maine Coon
And made my heart swoon
I saw her born a kitten baby
And fell in love instantly
Small and delicate for her size
But was a lovable little prize
Her fur was so soft and fluffy
And she loved being stroked by me
Always knowing treats were in store,
She'd come running to meet me at the door
Crumpled paper was her favorite toy
Fetching with me she did so enjoy
She used to sit upon my head
To wake me up out of bed
Kissing me on my brow
Saying mom, get up right now
She went to spayed one year ago
But little did I know,
That she was too fragile for the surgery
And would end up an angel for eternity
I had her for five precious years
And still I cry many tears
Dedicated to my Butterscotch cat that died one year ago after having surgery to be spayed.
I miss you so much my precious angel. Mommy
