The Back Burner
Miracle Man
1/13/2025

In each life will come
ample opportunities,
daydreamers let pass.

The Back Burner

If there’s one thing I excel at,
(I am really quite a pro)
It is using the back burner,
Which, in case you didn’t know

Means procrastination, baby!
Putting things off for so long
I forget I meant to do them,
Which I guess is kind of wrong.

Still, I do deserve some credit -
The ideas are all my own:
Swapping couches for replacements
Or an upgrade for my phone,

Sprucing shelves up in the kitchen,
Ditching clothes that I don’t wear,
Having floors both stained and sanded,
Planning trips to who-knows-where.

Once I pounce upon a project,
I do research so I know
All the people I must contact
So I’ll be all set to go.

You’d think gathering the info
Would present the hardest part,
But for pros like me, that’s nothing -
What we cannot do is START!

Burn Back Brighter In the Burner

They say they are legion,
But outnumbered they are
And bound by treason
A cold blow to fit the season
A cold show to stretch without reason
A boundary crossed,
God will not tolerate much longer
With all the mocking birds,
Those sing songers...
As volcanoes erode
And the earth's axis throws off the coast.
Build Back Better=Burn Back Brighter in the Burner until toast.

This Bunsen Burner

My partner is Bunsen burner
hot in the kitchen
hotter in the living room
hottest in the bedroom
This sweaty life I live

Fire brigade nowhere to find

The Sage Burner

My Grandfather was a Sage-Burner.
He would light the dry twisted grass with a Zippo.
It was chromed, silver and read; "Live to ride. Ride to Live."

The sage would spark and burst into yellow orange flame.
He would blow it out and nurse the ember to full life.
Until it glowed with an evil black and red shimmer.

It smelled like bad weed.

My Grandfather would dance and flit about the space.
His thin frame with arms uplifted as if praising some unseen God.
Blowing, poking and prodding the smoke.
Into dark corners and back rooms.

Places we forgot.

I asked my Grandfather why he burned sage.

With narrowed eyes he said, "some spirits like to hang around
and cause mischief among the Human Beings.

"We burn sage so they will leave us alone."
"We burn sage so they will go away from us and bother the Whites instead."

Then he smiled and continued his dance.

Premium Member Back Burner Woman Blues

I've got a back burner woman and I know
you'd never understand.
I've got a back burner woman and I know
you'd never understand.
Oh you know I love you, woman, but
I've got a back burner woman,
just in case you stray away.

I've got a back burner woman and I know
you'd never understand. (repeat)
She's there to understand me,
when you and I don't see eye to eye.
I'm there for her when her man
just treats her so bad.

I've got a back burner woman and I know
you'd never understand. (repeat)
She welcomes me in when your door is shut
and my clothes are thrown out in the yard.
You know I love you, woman, but you just don't
seem to care if I come or go.

(repeat)
You see, the thing that troubles me, woman,
is if you got a back burner man!

Cross Burner

(This is a fictional poem)

You've done mean things over the years but this time you've gone too far.
You burned a cross in a man's yard because he's a different color than you are.
I feel like kicking you out and if you don't apologize, that's exactly what I'll do.
You make me ashamed to be your dad and I'm getting tired of putting up with you.
I've always told you that all people are equal but you still became racist somehow.
You will go apologize to that man and I mean now.
You make me so mad that I shout.
If you ever do this again, I'll kick you out.
