An unshaven programmer tech
Drooled java on a Starbucks deck
His net earnings grew
As fooled patrons threw
Dinero to pay for his check

A prime-numbered day if years leap
Adds one extra cycle for sleep
This calendar fact
Keeps seasons intact
And discounts our rents that ain't cheap

While to myth seers, leap year is mysterious
Science explains it, never injurious
For me, the Lord meant such as victorious
Wondrous grand bonus for gracious day’s gift*.
*Ecclesiastes 3:13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

Feeling hopeless
Feeling down
Looking at the paper
Here in my hand
They say it’s a bonus
They say it’s really good
But what I read
Sounds like a bill
I need lots of money
More than I have ever had
And give it to them
I don’t understand
They’ll give more papers
They say I can sell them
Are worth even more
But I don’t got the money
They want for all that
Don’t got the money
And I never will
It just worthless paper
They gave to me
I can’t sell these papers
Got no money for them
This isn’t a bonus
It is more of a bill

...happening today
She watched me tilt my head and look eyedrops into each eye and shuddered, saying "I can't do that" I looked at her in disbelief! She, recovering from her 3rd fall, same wrist broken twice, bravely isolated in a re-hab facility with that dead-air & feint chemical odor. My eyes, swollen with allergies following a 2-hr hike the previous first 50 degree day (turns out to be a sinus infection). Her excitement is childlike when I tell her I'm picking her up tomorrow (today) to go to therapy at the Minnesota Vikings Ortho facility! She will see all the snow has melted (save the dirty 20' piles from dump-truck drops) and I promised her lunch (she likes a tuna-salad sandwich & lemon meringue pie!) She knows this is bonus-time...she didn't hit her head when she fell...the stark truth left unsaid, her friend just passed 3-weeks after falling, hitting her head, blood on the brain. I will bundle her in my warm outing blanket and we will ease thru traffic not talking...

Christmas indeed is blissfully wondrous
Yet one character makes my child nervous
A Santa granting no gift
As if showing dearth midst thrift
Negating spirit to be generous.
My boy’s Christmas fright can be humorous
Yet his demands for giving* is serious
Toward season’s blessed lift
Against “mine alone” rift…
Thank God, He's poured his special needs’ bonus!
*Acts 20:35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

"Last letters fall off a lonely page, punished the pen
sits silent, recovering from past strokes of sage."
Bluebirds sing along with Springs triumphant return
red and yellow tulip's splendor fall out in front of me
my inquisitive mind inhales nature's fresh awakening
as my pen stares off aimlessly to another place in time
Write for me they plead, but my muse has gone to sleep
hardened by yesterday's trials, I remain empty and weak
these eyes reach out towards where the butterfly flutter
but my heart floats away up into the recesses of the sky
Calliope, Thalia, Polyhymnia, why do you sleep so far
Euterpe, sing your siren song in my desperate deaf ear
fingers frozen in time above ink wells slowly drying
in starry skies eluding songs sing us a seductive melody
Thanks Darren...hope this sparks your poetic fire

My moisturizer’s from Clinique.
When I am running low,
I wait until it’s bonus time
And to the store I go.
For give-aways are advertised –
With purchases, of course;
You have to spend a set amount,
Which all the clerks enforce.
So 27 was the price
You’d need to qualify
For the make-up bag of goodies
That Clinique would then supply.
I plucked my lotion from the shelf
But I was in a fix
Because – you guessed it – on the box
The price was 26!
I chuckled at how devious
This tactic seemed to be
For lots of other customers,
Like me, want something free.
Without much hesitation, though,
I knew what I would do.
To get the bonus I deserved,
I splurged and paid for two!

Defend Thy Bonus!
(For Boris and Those City Boys of London)
“They’ll leave! They’ll leave!”
He cried, with a look of sheer panic
In those innocent blue eyes
“And ‘The City’ will be poorer without them....!” (he lied).
“Let them go! Let them go!” I cried
In fact let me help them pack
So I can be sure they won’t come back
After, of course, they have all got the sack
Alright the GDP might wheeze
Cough, splutter and sneeze,
But I for one won’t greave,
Oh how I do wish they would leave.
