Goree Island
Poet: Ken Jordan
Poem: Goree Island
Edited by: Sparkle Jordan
written: February/2014

 I see the blood
of my ancestors
that swell
 in the Atlantic ocean
on
Goree Island -

The unmerciful ill winds
that fell
over my people,
in Senegal,
on that
horrific night,
brought the European's,
across the Atlantic,
to our Village -

Everything
in the world
changed forever,
and
will never be forgotten,
when the "unthinkable"
cruel acts
of...

"Steeped" in resentment at usurious taxes, a Revolution was "brewing!"
History records that the Boston Tea Party was to be the Brits undoing!
An anguished groan was heard as barrels of tea were hurled into the sea!
Their grog of rum they might forego, but never their tot...

Premium Member A Brief Epistle in Urgent Forewarning against Melancholia--Part I
(Somewhere in late 18th-century Europe a friend, Laetitia, by way of a letter warns her beloved girlfriend, Euphoria--a young, gay and unsuspecting mistress--against the almost inevitable seductions of the infamous and maundering philanderer, Melancholia.).

Dear Euphoria,

Melancholia is one of the more...

Premium Member Taxes, Fees and Surcharges Ad Infinitum!
Along with other assorted mail, I received the telephone bill today.
I thoroughly examined it and discovered much to my dismay,
A bewildering assortment of taxes, fees and sundry charges.
It seems that with each passing month the confounded list enlarges!

A new fee was added called "The Low...

Premium Member Adventures In Motoring
The younger crowd will not believe this bit of lore I fear,
But operating vehicles was more complicated in yesteryear!
For example, to signal turns you hung your arm out the door,
And to dim the lights there was a dimmer switch mounted on the floor!

If, alas, you...

Workingman's World
1.

In an ahistorical fog:

all the Ways home,

all the signposts,

treacherously hidden

by greedy men and women:

all eyes off the ball:

mere contemptible bourgeois folly.

2.

The rain is unending,

the wind howls,

the flooded river races,

its banks rapidly disappearing

in this darkness at noon.

Laid bare by the flashing, crackling

lightning, the wagon teams...

Premium Member Pain At the Pump
Ah! For the good old days when you could fill the tank for a dollar.
If folks paid more'n a quarter a gallon, my, how they'd holler!
Nowadays, it necessitates a usurious loan from the bank,
Or a second mortgage on the house, just to fill the tank!

Politicians...

Rapacious greed

Never enough silver

his insatiable lust
  never grows old

Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini

Cadillacs and BMW's
  beneath him ~ sorry

Charges usurious rent

No More!
Amorous
Passion’s roar

Arborous
Tarzan’s door

Curious
Probing more.

Luxurious
Plush galore

Ominous
Gloomy gore

Belarus
Boxer born

Bilious
Anger pour

Furious,
Angry core

Usurious
Using bore.

Pluribus
Think as one.

Unanimous
Agreed…
“NO MORE!”...

Tractors For Russia
walking the way of the freckle face boy
one and only one verdict comes to mind
nobody knows who is calling the shots
various factions reluctant to spill the beans
well things have a force of their own
a constant reminder for Prince Bingo
jackpoteer to the crowned heads of Europe

Happy Saint Valentine's Day
I will always love you
Days may shorten
Nights may tarry
But in all
Your love will live in me

In the days you' ll be my sun
In the dark you are my stars
In the cold you hearthen my soul
In the heat you are my cool fountain

You thought me...

Premium Member Complicated
Who are you? Self awareness is very tricky.
You’re very complicated, we all are,
people are the most complicated things
we encounter in our everyday lives.

Now imagine two complicated people together.
We manage this complexity by limiting each other,
with social contracts, to limit usurious behaviours.
If we abide by the...

Premium Member Caviar for a Czar
I’ve never dined on caviar,
The finest instead, a Mars bar.
No palace key for this housing Czar
Sip water alone, not at a gilded bar.

The challenge must be taken on the chin
And not merely with audacious spin
A moratorium won’t fix the cause
Of that usurious interest clause
And gestures...

Pulchritudinous virtual crime pulled off without a cocked hitch

delivered me back in the dark shadows
and the underbelly of the web,
where impossible mission
to differentiate the outer limits
cast by edge of night
essentially rendering a twilight zone
where obscured criminal activity
clear as day in retrospect,
