A Duplicitous Tabby
A duplicitous tabby in El Cajon
Meows that his heart and soul are on loan
But though blessed with the gift
To give spirits a lift
He leaves broken hearts to cry all alone
10/13/22
Mighty Mercury
Alert then aloof, snuggly warm then colder
His rangy legs spring to hitch a ride on our shoulder
Lifting our hearts to elation
He’s our portable vacation
We cherish Mercury more each day we grow older
Not long before I put down my dirt filled hoe
Into my yard she quietly crept
It’s as though she knew I needed her cheer
She was rust colored and sadly matted cat
Not the most attractive feline I’d ever seen
But she was lonely and hungry, and in need
Of course immediately my Mothering instinct beckoned
She followed me to where I poured some milk for her
Not ever having a cat I didn’t have cat food on hand-
So I opened a can of tuna to her delight
She lapped it up and looked up at me with a smile
The next day there she was waiting and the day after and so on
I had found a friend
So I went out and bought some cats food
She was now mine of at least I thought so
Who could have ever done such a thing?
Leaving her to the streets?
I bought her flea collar and bells to wear
Soon she would just sit on my lounge chair waiting for me
I had to bring her into the house she still looked so frail
One day while she was eating I noticed her choking on her food
It continued so I made an appointment to see the vet
It had to be done anyway after all she was to be mine
While we had our visit and the saddest moment of my life came
The doctor said she had throat cancer and it was advanced
Our friend Tabby didn’t but a few weeks to live
So my husband and I made the pain staking decision
To put her to sleep
Tears poured from every corner of my eyes
“No” was all I screamed inside she had brightened my life
How could someone have left her alone?
The Vet felt the previous owner knew about her condition
They left her to suffer knowing she was so sick
I felt we at least gave her 6 weeks of love and care before she left this place
I will never forget the love and championship this rusty feline gave me
Months later my family and I adopted another cat Tabby showed us-
The greatest love and companionship that animals give you unconditional
We now have two wonderful cats that were adopted
They bring so much to our lives
Small furry, stripy, cuddly puss makes
Lots of noise as the early dawn breaks
And so the reluctant household wakes.
“Get out of bed now,
Come down and feed us for all our sakes,
We’re on our last miaow.”
The household can but do as it’s told,
This tabby cat is exceedingly bold.
So from my bed and into the cold
I creep to provide
The feline breakfasts as I was told,
With some milk beside.
This tabby cat is plump and quite cute,
Bossy and nurse-like, a real old boot,
Her every whim always bears fruit,
She bustles about.
She’s Hattie Jacques in a tabby suit,
Matronly with clout.
Her fur is sleek, her voice is sublime
What will she be like given more time?
Her bossy manner isn’t a crime.
Sometimes she holds back.
Her friend, an alpha cat in his prime
Is leader of the pack.
Here's a kitty that knows his own mind.
For goodness sakes-don't call him fat!
Diets are not his thing you'll find.
He's a very single minded cat.
His very favorite sport is fishing.
Running a marathon he'd never do.
For a nice long nap is what he's wishing.
Annoying Odie might be fun too!
He admires himself more every day.
No self esteem issues trouble him.
Doesn't care what he might weigh.
He'll eat lasagna just on a whim.
His double chin has been pointed out.
Yet he chooses to ignore it all.
If you push him too far he will shout
"I'm not too fat- I'm just under-tall "

Katy dipped her tabby cat in the pot of brine
She was settled to make his fur silky and shine
But to her utter depression
Raising a pertinent question
The Tabby baby took wing to ride the cloud nine
The way that you’re crying,
You sound like you’re dying…
You can’t get enough of that food!
And then, when I feed you,
You say, “I don’t need you!”
And you’re in another bad mood!
Stop trying to bite me!
I think that you might be…
A little too cruel and crabby!
No matter what I say,
I’ll adore you anyway!
You’ll always be my love, Tabby!

Gather round both young and old for I've a tale to tell.
About this little lonely cat by the name of Tabby O'Dell.
Tabby was a fiesty critter. Spunky as could be.
She loved to play with other cats and often played in trees.
Many a day you'd see her prancing down the allies.
Digging through all the trash cans of the gourmet restaurant galleys.
Once she found a Doggy bone. Wow that was a sight.
Watching Tabby drag it home. It took her half the night..
But Tabby was a lonely gal for she did not have a pet.
She would dream away for hours of the boy she'd oneday get.
Til oneday little Tabby, as she came around a bend,
found a little Chinese boy and soon they were best friends.
It seemed no matter where they'd go they were always seen together.
Be it morning, noon or night, even nasty weather!
Soon she was invited to her new friends house.
Where a feast she did enjoy of fresh sun ripened mouse.
To her this was the finest time. A time so full of joy.
Just Tabby O'Dell the lonely cat and her pet little boy.
They were in the kitchen. I believe it was at night.
When sadly Tabby and her little boy had an awful fight.
Tabby clawed and sneered and bit as if she had a fever.
Then promptly had her head chopped off by a Chinese cleaver!
Her head rolled down the counter. Onto the floor it flew.
The lifeless carcass of Tabby O'Dell soon to be cat stew.
While the moral of this story is not easy to explain,
it has to do with relationships and how they often end.
So make sure when you get attached that you don't act a fool
or soon you'll find your head cut off and no more than pussy stew!

tabby cat, eyes glow
moving in garden shrubbery
hunting, pausing
alert to movement
within shadowed places
soft purr erupting
pounce and miss
joyful moment, hunt is fun
now a nap for her
My tabby cat with spectacles on nose,
Sits on a chair in imperial pose.
She holds an open book in one hand,
And a mug of coffee of a fresh brand.
Though she controls only the mouse,
She acts as though the empress of the house.
She sits content in the glare of the sun,
And reads of adventures of great fun.
With a blink of eyes and flick of ear,
She keeps turning pages in great cheer.
She relishes sipping the hot coffee,
And enjoys her uninterrupted spree.
She sits dangling her feet in joy.
I wonder what is her next ploy.
Folding the book, she bids goodbye,
And drifts off to sleep closing her eye.
I know a little tabby cat
her fluffy tummy slightly fat
She wobbles as she jogs along
I worry, is there something wrong
My worries are now put aside
that tabby cat now lies with pride
amongst her little kittens nine
all asleep in one long line

TABBY
only on her terms
you can sense it in her eyes’
remote, half-wild flash
for when you stroke her she jumps
a sweet woods musing disturbed
her tabby wasn't shabby
purring
petting
preening
probing
her purring pussy craved petting peeps,
preening herself fine, probing so deep.
