Unwelcome Encore

Sometime last night, resting
inside of my home
I heard a voice singing(?!)
I was not alone

Not sure what to do
I just tried to ignore...
But he went on for hours
in unwelcome encore

Oh, that freaky falsetto
went on for so long
in a shrill, shrieking, trembling
annoying song

That at last, I had had it-
how dare he invade
my home with his frightfully
screechy serenade?

I searched every room
behind curtains, under beds
if I found that intruder
he'd wish he were dead!

Then I began to wonder
if he wasn't outside
for I'd looked everywhere
no more places to hide...

But, at length, he grew louder
I knew he was near
so cheekily taunting me
offending my ears

'Til at last, he popped out!
Cheeky chap in plain view
so I swung into action
and pursued him anew-

Round and round thru the house
how I chased and he fought
until spent and exhausted
he finally was caught!

I carried him to the door
and tossed him out, satisfied-
when (to my horror)
three more crickets hopped inside!

Premium Member Drifting Darkly

Falling through pompous poems, spiraling
Slippery sinking, rhyming rolling
In down directions, foreign for me
Cascading in chalkboard screechy sounds
Hanging by nails that can catch and clasp
Clinging to hollow hopes once grasped
Sliding sorrows, long lost dreams dashed
Descending dusty thoughts that propel
Nothing now left of me, you can tell

Premium Member Old Gold, a Cat

An ancient scraggy yellow cat
(nape infected with crusty mange)
frequented our house, asking for food.
He was not shy announcing his presence
or asking to be fed alongside another
guest we call No Neck -- the two were friendly,
sharing twin feeding bowls amicably.
Old Gold often bore the scars, the bloody fur,
of a frequent skirmisher (and loser.)
He was feeble, his sight not good,
and his vocalizations in advising us of his presence
were loudly unmelodious.
He enjoyed a fond petting and was often seen
padding cautiously about on nearby streets --
a free, though aged, spirit.
It grieves me to report that,
with good intent, we took
Old Gold to treat his mange,
but, after tests, were told
he could not be treated.
He had feline AIDS and leukemia.
So, he needed to be put down.
There are no cures or treatment.
We miss his visits and his scratchy-screechy calling.
His roaming done, he rests now, quietly,
                                             in our garden.

Rabbit and the Elephant

“Hello! Mr. Mighty elephant”said a tiny, little rabbit.
“oh!hello!miss.tiny, little rabbit” said the elephant in surprise
“can this tiny , little soul take a ride on your back?”
Said the rabbit who was nice& wise
“oh! Sure! It would’nt make much difference if you’re present on my back” said Mr. mighty.
Thank you ! for the kindness sir
Through the woods
And the rivers
I promise not for you to get bored
As I would try my best
Said the rabbit to the elephant.
(through the journey)
Oh! How lucky are small creatures,
They are kept as pets & pampered
Oh! How unlucky are we
Said the mighty to the minny
Oh! Don’t tell me that
You want to be as small as me,
I can’t believe,
Being like me is a sin ,
Cause in all the battles the opponents win
Said the little rabbit to the elephant
What are talking?
Being like you is a sin !
Being a small & a cute creature,
You should always wear a grin
You have cute face & a little chin

I am so fat & ugly
I wish to be like you
Everyone get scared of me
I don’t know what did I do?
Said the elephant to the rabbit
As a crow was passing by
& heard the talk,
The wise crow said “ you both should
Be happy about yourself,
Because no one in this world
can replace your capabilities,
being mighty is great &being a minny too
cause each one is a gem…
who has been shaped by the god ,
look at me ,
I am black,
 I have a screechy voice,
Crock-crock!
Do I ever worry?
I feel I can sing the best
As no one can screech better than me!
I feel I am a black beauty”
Said the crow and flew away.
Both elephant & rabbit
Realized they were wrong,
The rabbit got down,
As her journey was done
Said both creatures at once
We are the best
In our own way
And they too went away
With a bye bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You Are Indispensable: Attila Ilhan Translation

Ben Sana Mecburum: “You are indispensable”
by Attila Ilhan
translation by Nurgul Yayman and Michael R. Burch

You are indispensable; how can you not know
that you’re like nails riveting my brain?
I see your eyes as ever-expanding dimensions.
You are indispensable; how can you not know
that I burn within, at the thought of you?

Trees prepare themselves for autumn;
can this city be our lost Istanbul?
Now clouds disintegrate in the darkness
as the street lights flicker
and the streets reek with rain.
You are indispensable, and yet you are absent ...

Love sometimes seems akin to terror:
a man tires suddenly at nightfall,
of living enslaved to the razor at his neck.
Sometimes he wrings his hands,
expunging other lives from his existence.
Sometimes whichever door he knocks
echoes back only heartache.

A screechy phonograph is playing in Fatih ...
a song about some Friday long ago.
I stop to listen from a vacant corner,
longing to bring you an untouched sky,
but time disintegrates in my hands.
Whatever I do, wherever I go,
you are indispensable, and yet you are absent ...

Are you the blue child of June?
Ah, no one knows you—no one knows!
Your deserted eyes are like distant freighters ...
perhaps you are boarding in Yesilköy?
Are you drenched there, shivering with the rain
that leaves you blind, beset, broken,
with wind-disheveled hair?

Whenever I think of life
seated at the wolves’ table,
shameless, yet without soiling our hands ...
Yes, whenever I think of life,
I begin with your name, defying the silence,
and your secret tides surge within me
making this voyage inevitable.
You are indispensable; how can you not know?

The Movie

An impulse led him to the Cineplex
That dull Sunday afternoon in May
To crush his consciousness of his guilty complex,
Borne by the woman who abused him in different ways.

The celluloid screen would mask the horror
Of what was his pathetic life
As he’d immerse in adventure and furor,
Forgetting his woes over pop and popcorn in the back seat.

But the movie was a remake of his suffering.
Instead of a swashbuckler dashing across the screen,
There was a screechy scream, and the flehm
From her dying breath and futile gesturing.

The piercing cries in that dark corridor
Echoed within him when he sliced her into a hundred pieces
But the black suitcase he clutched was sore.
From within it rang songs of lament from a broken peace.

As he wriggled between the sheets yearning for his mistress
He sighed with relief that the movie was only a dream,
But there was a shiny red suitcase that sat silent
By the table stand and the stench woke him

From yet another dream!

Premium Member Earth Praise

Rocky, high lofty mountains do stand tall and
boisterous waves continuously applaud
The rooster crows to commence:
musicians of dolphins, humpbacks and orcas,
vibe with sonic vibrations and
voice their vocal orchestras

Ravens, seagulls and doves chirp the song
The sly rattler rattles his noisy instrument
Crickets click a cool jazzy beat
Mr. grand waterfall has a cascade of steady water tunes
Two love-struck pigeons are dancing in sequence

A gazelle leaps over an enormous rock
A nifty lion roars over a raw hearty meaty meal
There in a meadow, young puppies are barking
a screechy and a pretentious bark

Flowers beautify the landscape: to see
roses, lilies, orchids, impatiens, tulips,
marigolds and lovely violets
They a natural soft colorful prism arrayed

The hills and valleys are unfolding its beauty
Two strong stallion horses are elated
showing their mighty strength
leaping in the air with their hind legs and
hooves kicking

A myriad of fruity fruits are in abundance
and diverse foods favors for taste buds pleasures
like are grapes, oranges, and watermelons

The green trees are spreading out their green leaf branches
giving out; a cool natural shade to all earthly creatures
All people in the world with understanding are rejoicing
and attending. They shouting out praises
and benefiting that of "Earth Praises"

Ode To Larry the Bird

Bright yellow feathers,
Deep black eyes.

A voice that could carry
Through the winds of time.

A sweet little fellow,
My friend for years and years.

I just can't help
But to shed my tears.

Much to soon you left me
Here all alone.

You really helped
To make this house a home.

I knew you were in heaven
When I heard the Angels sing.

That screechy little voice
Was singing straight to me.

Please know that I love you
And I will not I forget.

The sweetest little friend,
I had for a pet.

That wicked old witch made me the Tin Man

Sans a heart, I'm like a rusty tin can

I creak like a screechy hinge

         Making my many friends cringe

Rwendy Wendy was trendy like a pencil
A surge of love she was on to overkill
                                        Look! He scratched her shoe
                                          She Still pitched the woo

This Bandaged Broken Heart That Bleeds Out Pain.

A bandaged broken heart heaps more agony upon emotions and hurt feelings
carelessly tossed away in a wastebasket of ignorance and ill willed
stubborness...

A kiss upon lips clammy cold and with a heart carved as out of an ice berg
floating aimlessly adrift in a sea of forlorn saddened dissappointment can
only attune to screechy scratchings of the musical notes only as long as
earplugs are freely handed out to a misguided deafened heart...

Alas-Sweet or yickiness unleashed to the inherit braveity unique...

Can only for the 'morrow borrow hatred and jealousy inwardly oblique...

An unplugged leak of the heart and emotions may finally at last amout to nothing
more than fridgid ridgid unattentiveness among cross walked lovers constantly
at every turn run over by meddlesome false friends and family members alike...

Maybe Cupid could take out his first aide kit to repair many wounded hearts
after the blood puddles has been spilled all over lover's floors of constant mis-
steps of the heart and love...

Buck up oh careless Cupid-Yee aim cannot always be as accurate as Robin
Hood's or William Tell's, do tell...

Look up to the beautied moon oh lovers of the heart...
Perhaps this romantic image will inspire all lovers to try instead of to just part
their only lone ways further distanced apart.

Premium Member The Haunted House

A deserted Victorian house stood off the county road just a little way.
To keep apace of living I rushed by it most every day.
For years I'd wanted to visit there to see what secrets it held,
And perhaps find out about the folks who in it had once dwelled.

Massive oaks stood erectly as if to guard the old place;
Clinging vines held weathered clapboards in precarious embrace.
I mused as I opened the latch on the sagging garden gate,
"Why was it forsaken and left in such a forlorn state?"

The front door was slightly ajar so I entered with pounding heart.
As I sauntered down the dusty hall I was brought up short with a start!
The door slowly closed to the sound of screechy hinges and slammed locked!
I tried to exit the house but all the doors and windows were tightly blocked!

The old house groaned and sepulchral voices were heard from within!
I ran from room to room stumbling over moldy furniture to avoid the din!
Suddenly, the old pump organ in the parlor began playing a haunting dirge!
Macabre figures in funereal dress began to dance and mysteriously emerge!

Squeaky floors, spider webs and flying bats furthered the home's decay.
There was the stench of death about the place that haunts me to this day!
I snatched a poker from the hearth and broke a window to flee the place!
My curiosity about the house was more than sated as from there I did race!

Unlike

7/23/22

Unlike anyone
Can't be worried about none
Got to get it done
As well as have fun
Doing it all underneath the moon and sun
Took losses but mostly won
Carrying a gun
Weight on my shoulders light as a feather or a ton
Regarding me, ladies often shun
So I just move on and hit another home run

All night and day long
I remain strong
Despite feeling lost like a stray dog

Not all have something nice to say
She won't give me the time of day
No matter, I'll find a way
Without there being a price to pay

You won't, but believe me
This all seems to be
Somewhat cheesy
And far too easy
People remaining sleazy
It's nothing new for our species
The tires wearing down, getting a little screechy
Another glass of alcohol instead of Fiji
Feeling alien like E.T.
Far from peachy

Can't get any time back
Girl you got something about you, I like that
But you're always trying to strike fast
Staying cold like an arctic ice cap
I can't even get you to reply back
Left me high and dry in less than five flat
At this point I laugh

With much of this I could do away
I'm hungover, but I don't need to recuperate
I still show up and work through the day
Then I rejuvenate
Nothing but the truth I state
What I do, you can't duplicate
With you, I tried to communicate
But you just wanted to mutilate
Regardless, I got to do it now, not in a future date

Respect to the Holy Mother
She's always trying to throw me under
In hopes that I will only suffer
Among all these trophy hunters
Seeing mostly colors
Still a lonely er

Premium Member Night Before Solstice

Twas night of full Solstice
when all thru my home
Yin is moaning with constipation
while Yang jumps up and down
and back and forth
and in and out,
hoping her Beloved scratch soon will be here
to absorb all screechy itches
she holds so loudly dear.

I'm not in my hairshirt
and not needing a nap,
breathing Yang in
to pray Yin might push out.

As heaven opens
to rain down warm clatter
I co-arise with rich dark-soiled hope
and faith that each full breath matters,
as Yang throws soft pillows
for Yin's entertainment.

Finally, midnight clears,
stars splatter sky
as Yin pushes out poo
his contented voice lowing,
nestled in dream pillows
of Earth's sacred manger.

Another MidWay dia-soulstice,
one last veggie pizza on whole wheat slice,
angels are snoring
their demons ignoring
peacefully awaiting this New Year
of work and play nice.
