Unwelcome Encore

Sometime last night, resting
inside of my home
I heard a voice singing(?!)
I was not alone

Not sure what to do
I just tried to ignore...
But he went on for hours
in unwelcome encore

Oh, that freaky falsetto
went on for so long
in a shrill, shrieking, trembling
annoying song

That at last, I had had it-
how dare he invade
my home with his frightfully
screechy serenade?

I searched every room
behind curtains, under beds
if I found that intruder
he'd wish he were dead!

Then I began to wonder
if he wasn't outside
for I'd looked everywhere
no more places to hide...

But, at length, he grew louder
I knew he was near
so cheekily taunting me
offending my ears

'Til at last, he popped out!
Cheeky chap in plain view
so I swung into action
and pursued him anew-

Round and round thru the house
how I chased and he fought
until spent and exhausted
he finally was caught!

I carried him to the door
and tossed him out, satisfied-
when (to my horror)
three more crickets hopped inside!

G'day Rhona … enjoyed your poem and how true it is. This also happened in our home. We threw one outside and four scampered in while the door was open - thanks for the giggle - Lindsay

This is so insanely hilarious! I had no idea the ending was going to BE the ending. I have to read this again and again,so I am FAVing it.

P.S. The ending was a complete and utter ridiculously fun surprise, and I am honored that you had me in mind. My muse and I are taking bows now and acting all haughty and conceited.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, I actually had you in mind when I wrote it! I have these goofy thoughts & laugh about them to myself sometimes- imagining... but rarely write them down. p.s. I was afraid that I'd made it too obvious, but I'm glad the ending worked.

I know this is a rather silly one... But a cricket started singing loudly from somewhere in my house and broke my concentration from the (more serious) poem I was working on!
