Best Salt Shaker Poems
is a dusty rippled salt shaker,
an old working girl
found busy or on a stroll,
in a brothel house
my grandmother said
was often around,
when people sold
what they could to survive.
See her in the morning,
and her body
is an empty bottle
of sweet red wine,
bought cheap,
kept to deny the rough time.
You say now,
she was once round
and smooth as a glass egg
with a rose,
blooming in her breast.
This woman you knew
carried in her purse
a working poet
and a bronze genie lamp,
in case the days moved slow.
This woman you knew,
displayed a blue-purple dragon
she couldn’t let go
you knew, once were her husbands,
when his father died in his presence,
and while he loved drugs.
This woman you remember
you called a treasure
a face, a rainbow, a toy necklace.
This woman you sensed,
reached for you, during moments
when rainfall increased
sparrows flew by, and her home
a sand-feathered dream catcher.
Now nobody cares to admire anymore.

At times, we simply just do not think!
We just adore other poets and their ink?
Have you taken time, looking into your soul?
Read your own poetry, discover poetic gold!
You must fall in love with your life and self.
Before a truthful line of poetry, will be felt.
Otherwise, they are just simply lines on paper.
About as impressive as an empty, salt shaker.
Being you, fully, without a hint of reservation.
Touching others, lighting souls with sensation!
Think of yourself as a grain of salt
in Gods, filled with love salt shaker
Salt he adds to his eternal soup
enhancing with love he savors
There are a very few grains
close up to the top
They,the innocent ones
are the first to drop
Also many others
in this big ole salt shaker
Poured to the exact place
to be used by our creator
Yet,some stubborn grains
still clinging to the sides
In disbelief that it was He
who created their simple lives
If you feel that you've been moved,
at any moment by our creator
Think of these loving grains of salt,
being shaken for the love he savors
Dan Kearley:10-9-12
when my body is done
put me in an oven
and bury my ashes in a
sea salt shaker
scatter me sparingly
as you would
a fine condiment
in a recipe
into your daily life
during its preparation
so that
we may add the flavor
and the texture
of the past
when it is all gone
you
can refill
the sea salt shaker
Experienced a third bigger earthquake recently but this poem I wrote for a smaller earthquake years ago)
My first trivial tremor experience had been in Southern Africa
And now this puny earthquake I felt in Tanzania.
I saw every thing waltz to and fro and lightly shake
Bottles turned ballerinas dancing slightly to the quake
I watched glass decors on the walls quiver and jolt
Scaredy me was half asleep, no wonder didn't bolt
I thought I was dreaming or imagining things
My bed and chairs converted into gentle swings.
All vials and vases
jiggled to dance a jig
The lil horrors over
So I cast humor's wig
Ah when began rattling, the knick knacks on my dresser
Was when it dawned upon me in horror
That this was really an early dawn tremor.
I phoned some friends but those early risers
Hadn't even noticed or felt those tremors
I bet they thought I was spreading false rumours
After all poets are stereotyped as fanciful philosophers.
My cell phone keypad became my panic button in a flurry
Of course I wanted all to be alerted, alarmed in worry
Nobody believed me until it was announced in our mosque
And every body was then called by muezzin to pray the signs prayers
Then every body knew the tremor was no hoax
Some patted me for being the first to notice this shaking of earthly layers
Of course I thanked God this was no major earthquake
I've heard in other places how terribly the earth can crack and shake
Who else but God could I owe my heartfelt gratitude
For this being my 2nd low power tremor in magnitude
As it measured low on the Richter scale
based on the seismic waves' amplitude
But the earth was shaken and I too was shaken
No pics of the shivering axis were taken
Todate runs down my spine such a shiver
On recalling how the mother earth did quiver
I have seen videos of earthquakes where the earth juggles things
like a salt shaker
May God protect us from such a waker and breaker
Sometimes a need for added salt
Can be a good meal's only fault.
I am so glad that I am able
To have salt shaker on my table.
I'd rather chew on dry asphalt
Than finest meat devoid of salt.
And if that meal ends with a treat
It satisfies my yen for sweet.
I got my taste for salt from Papa
And one for sweets from my dear Mama.
To Your Health
I read an article that said laughing's good for you
It strengthens the heart muscle, it's something you should do
It made me think about my health and all the things I see
That I should eat to guarantee a new and better me
So I thought that I would change, what do I have to lose
If all the experts say its right, it must not be a ruse
I just got back from shopping, bought a lot of healthy things
I'm going to test the theory, see what improvements that it brings
Today, while on my treadmill, I snacked on tofu puffs
While lifting dead weights with my arms, but that was not enough
I quenched my thirst with carrot juice, all freshly squeezed of course
And munched on a granola bar, a sure heart healthy source
I had a bowl of Cheerios, floating in some Silk
I'd heard that it was healthier then even nonfat milk
For lunch I had a yogurt, it was the non fat kind
I also hid the salt shaker, out of sight, out of mind
Later in the day I thought I'd like to take a break
So to sooth my hunger, I munched on a rice cake
By dinner I was ravenous, my cravings unfulfilled
This healthy kick that I was on was not as it was billed
I guess I need to give more thought to the changes I will make
But for now I'll finish up, this inch thick pan seared steak
Perhaps I moved too quickly, cause I don't like the food I bought
So starting with tomorrow, I'll just laugh a lot

It's easy to fall in love
Even easier to break apart
I've been trying for six long years
To mend this broken heart
You used to talk to me so sweet
My biggest fan in the bleacher seats
From the rose bush to the baseball bat
Why'd you have to go and be like that
Why don't you just be like John Wayne
Why'd you go and have to die
Why don't you just be like John Wayne
Even he cried sometimes
Life never looked so bleak
Than the day you left me
It's easy to forgive sometimes
But this ain't one of those times
Sticks and stones may break my bones
Glass houses are all I've known
From the salt shaker to the baseball bat
Why'd you have to go and be like that
Why don't you just be like John Wayne
Why'd you go and have to die
Why don't you just be like John Wayne
Even he cried sometimes
When Grandmother Kangaroo goes for a visit,
She takes twenty teacakes, and old alarm clocks.
Her pouch could contain a tiara exquisite,
Mint toothpaste, her quilting, and pink jagged rocks.
She's never without her big key chain and cough drops.
There's even a salt shaker for when she cooks.
When Grandma the kangaroo goes for a long stop,
There's glasses for reading; she takes along books!

Dump dump dump and salt, that is all I do
Fill the fry hopper and make salty fries for you
Should of known you was trouble when the fries were up
Had the salt shaker open, why was it open?
Gave you all my fries and you tossed them in the bag
You tossed them in the bag, you did
To give me all your thanks, is all I ever asked
Coz what you don't understand is
CHORUS
I catch a french fry for you
Burn myself in the eye for you
I'd throw myself in the vat for you
You know I'd even get fat for you
I would go through all this pain
Put a deli knife through my brain
Yes I would fry for you baby
But you won't do the same
No, no, no, no
Gold, gold, gold and crisp, make them till I'm numb
To the spot-sweep I said hey, where the **** did you come from
Mad worker, bad worker, that's just what you are, yeah
You'll smile in my face then dob me in for my car
Gave you all my fries and you tossed them in the bag
You tossed them in the bag, you did
To give me all your thanks, is all I ever asked
Coz what you don't understand is
CHORUS
I catch a french fry for you
Burn myself in the eye for you
I'd throw myself in the vat for you
You know I'd even get fat for you
I would go through all this pain
Put a deli knife through my brain
Yes I would fry for you baby
But you won't do the same
No, no, no, no
If the vat was on fire
Ooh, you'd watch it burn down in flames
You said you loved fries, you're a liar
Coz you never, ever, ever did baby
CHORUS
But darling I''d still catch a french fry for you
Burn myself in the eye for you
I'd throw myself in the vat for you
You know I'd even get fat for you
I would go through all this pain
Put a deli knife through my brain
Yes I would fry for you baby
But you won't do the same
No, no, no, no
No, you won't do the same
You wouldn't do the same
Ooh, you never do the same
No, no, no, no
Bendy old whales taste like snails doing a backflip. But swarms of over eighty nine peonies are closely followed by nine bulls, an elephant tribe, a beetle colony and a party of laughing butterflies. Whose aerial display party was angled to the left in the sky with a north easterly breeze catching the cute curtains and shifting the might of the beasts in airborne state. Like undulating flights of the uniquely formed umbrellas. With wingspans measuring over two thousand kilometers. And kilometres are neither kale nor kaleidoscopic kitchens. So watch out for the breeze block ballet which often entertains sand at high tide. But disposable barbecues can be used as a hang glider if sufficient cello tape is applied to fix the wings. And the throttle can only ever be made by a six foot horn of a walrus. Stifle no swamp who is attempting a speech. And speeches by swamps are very very important. They tell the people not to drop nail polish in bowls for the bowls can get upset and cry which then causes creaky creamy bowmen to sink apples and donut cakes with piercing shots. Such a playful pudding is playing pivotal ping pong in a very talented way. It really is quite acrobatic you see. And a maze on a plate can only ever be cleared with a salt shaker and a hooded pepper grinder whose antics in the woods please the woodpeckers who have a six hour break from peck peck peck to watch the scenes in bemused contemplations. So the little pretty whale is in a flowery dress today. Good. That will please Mr shark whose love of female forms could stem from a wild neolithic neem but not a norm. Really not. Chasing skirts round and around. Wow. Interesting isn't it? And a foregone conclusion is skin to a fox falling over a peanut while a crispy wafer laughs. Hahaha drooling drive deciphering dreams. Hahaha mist in a bath of gravy. Xxxxx tyrannosaurus training teacups. Xxxxx organizationally z z z z z z z at a left over left-handed angle of a righteous right-handed rigmarole rink. Z 46% plus 293 degrees is a delightful sunbathing pan of whipped cream. Z z z z
The mischievous things you often did,
like taking the salt shaker and loosening the lid
It was only a matter of time before you got it good
so you had to get away with as much as you could
Pulling the sheets from the bed and making a tent
Swinging on the curtains until the rod bent
Blaming your sister for writing on the wall
though she couldn't spell yet and was only a foot tall
Unplugging the alarm clock so you could miss school
Overflowing the tub to make a swimming pool
Did you ever show out in the grocery store
then when you got home run and lock the door
You'd either get caught or someone would snitch
Then your legs would get it...that's right the switch!!
At my desk
I pause to the minute at 11:30 am
August 22nd
30 years later
To remember who we were
When we wedded
Back then
Bought what we could afford
But with a colorful splash of class
Maybe
Borrowed only what was enough
A morning ceremony
The seamless lucky sky
River picked at by a Blue Heron
Rose garden of dynamite
Fuse of bees
All free
Flower dresses
A gathering of 50
Sitting on rows of folding white chairs
Snapping at our guest’s with their angelic jaws
I left my groomsmen at the alter
To replace my bride’s no-show dad
Retrieved her for myself
She shook like a salt shaker with a smile
Walking down the aisle
Sprinkling our life for extra taste
My stoned middle aged good hearted cousin
An alleged photographer
Loved the grand attention he got
Barking orders
At the quick ceremony afterglow
That served as the “party”
The Minister we’d only met once before
Said with a gin and tonic in hand
“Got four more to go today.”
Grin
I thank him for that prophecy
We created four beautiful children
And I can see so clearly to this very day
His words and beaming buzzing face
More than any drippy saying or advice
He or we could have ever made up
And forgotten
30 years later.
There was a time when words were derived,
not slovenly crafted with prefixes.
When drain meant to let the water out.
When cast from window, meant to throw it out.
That was before the arrival of de- words
De-water means to drain, why not just drain the water out?
Defenestration is de- French for, throwing someone or something from a window
Deforestation is chopping down the trees
Decoupling is divorce, or detachment of carriage from engine.
Demystify is to remove the spook.
Departmentalise is to open the gates on open day to the silos.
Depolarise is inclusion .
Depigmentation is to bleach or whiten.
Desensitise is to get over, your touchy self.
Desalinate is to go easy on the salt-shaker.
Detoxify is to flush and cleanse.
Desertification is to water the parched fields.
Dehumanise is the demise of individuality.
Demise is goodbyes.
