Premium Member Where Tranquility's Quintessence Abides

I start my afternoon hike up a mountain trail.
October’s sunlight, the vestige of Indian Summer,
dapples my exposed skin with welcomed warmth.
Sun’s rays are gilded tendrils cutting through pines
whose needles’ sweet scent
                        I breathe deeply in.

I can almost taste the breeze as it rushes past,
waltzing through the many trees.
The sky, immersed in azure, is heavenly!
I imagine its clouds having been swirled by the wind
with which I wish I too were dancing.

Bright foliage surrounds me.
I am bedazzled by them as they ostensibly flaunt
hues of scarlet, rich amber honey, russet, and tangerine -
                      an ocean of windswept trees!

My destination is a pristine lake where new trees
shimmer - mirrored in its crystal blue.
One oak is so tall it seems like a steeple reaching upward.
Its limbs have formed an arbor which beautifies
the view that greets my eyes.
Acquiescing to enthrallment, I linger there
where tranquility’s quintessence abides,
                     inhaling October’s unique potpourri.

Dusk will soon swallow up the day,
so I begin my descent. Birds twitter; leaves whisper.
Seeing me, a timid rabbit scampers behind a bush.
Heaven seems fused with the terrain,
igniting my world with iridescence
as against a splash of persimmon, seagulls soar.
How I would love to glide home like those glorious birds.
Intoxicated by the rhapsody of colors,
I come to the bottom of the trail with just enough time
to reach my home’s comfort before night’s chill
                                                              envelops all.

Quintessence of Dust

[With a nod to the Bard]

We are the moving dust,
we are the breathing dust,
we are the seeing dust,
we are the living dust.

But how, you ask, and rightly
so, can dust fall asleep,
dreaming of places unknown,
and lovers unmet-- how can
dust imagine whole worlds
and love with one heart for
60 winters and 60 summers?

And do the notes that stir life
come also from dust, just a
little dust and nothing more?
When the music is played
and dust dances with dust,
and dust laughs with dust
and soon dust loves dust,
can dust ever understand
the paradox of its own
being, from dust to dust?

Not until the winds come,
the warm winds of Eternity,
will dust be blown away,
leaving the unseen soul
alive, to walk and breathe
and dance and love, bathed
forever in the dustless Light...

Premium Member The Quintessence of Nothing

Don’t say it, please.
I’m not asking for compliments.
I am not a poet.
I prefer free verse.
No rhyme.
No iambic pentameter.
No metaphors.
Just plain words
For I am a wordsmith.
Best I stop writing
For I am
The quintessence of nothing.

Note: I might occasionally post something, I require no views or comments.

Book: Radiant Verses: A Journey Through Inspiring Poetry

Quintessence.

It is truly yours
Belonging to both
This single point
Examine and ponder it

Established once
Polished complete
By agony pleasured
Ruminate and reflect

Cite and believe it
In it’s finality
Of defined setting
Intimate and echo it

Holding on
Here at the end of all
What was there to think about?

A Transitory Existence, An Eternal Quintessence

My tenant body constitutes a lease,
A rented fabric owed to landlord Time,
From smoothened silk to wrinkled leather’s crease,
This shuttled thread is bound in deed to grime.
My mind he stakes a vested interest in,
Its vibrancy is forced perforce to fade,
The stain of Lethe’s dull oblivion
Shall wash and sink this mind in murky shades.

Immortal dyes Arachne used to draw,
(While mortals die unraveled, naked, sheared)
Her strings contested Nature’s with their awe,
Art’s golden wool outwears the looming Weirds.
This trunk of life is tailored for a fashion,
Yet timeless wove is art’s transcendent passion.

QUINTESSENCE

an absence
of
fervent
  intensity

in  miniature
with
infinite
  equivocation
 an ambiance
of impressioned
sensations

a resurgence
  of an elide
intermix
apparently
  remote
from
abiding concern
 obliquely
descended into
 a preoccupation
  with the sensual
such
eloquent
 perfection to
enlighten
the fusion
  of continuity
with cohesion

NOTE:THIS IS AN OPEN(organic) FORM VERSE without grammatical symbols the ' open' relies upon 'the one breath limitation' & so inherently requires the 'reader' (reciter) to input and respond thus making the form a two way interplay and often a unique interpretation by the enigma so derived

Quintessence

Continuous, that vibrant stream of consciousness
above our heads, insouciant,
though lacking alpha and omega,
unassailable until
am uninvited. gracious guest.
a dazzling flash of spirit life
uproarious, descends.
For all we know, a glitch in time,
(a mere intensity of purpose undefined)
yet unignored, and seized!

The moment's energy embraced
and all is changed, for
suddenly a thoroughfare appears
on yet another plane,
pristine and broad
across a thousand new horizons.
No, nor fears the rushing blood
through jaded veins to answer
wit a joyous "yes!"
the call to frolic on the shore
(o magum mysterium)
beneath the crumbling stars
(in saecula saeculorum)

Deo Gratias!

Quintessence of Quiescent

Up the polished ceiling above my bed
In my bedroom resting for a while,
A camouflaged lizard crawls his webbed feet
With dead silence in his spider tongue
Hunting a fly nearby in languorous mood
So unconscious of to-be catastrophe
Bony spine of mine chills enough
To freeze my whole body like an ice
For the certainty of yet another calamities
Befalling on my quiet turbid heart
At any moments of my present life.

My desire to rest for a while with
My frightened and horror-stricken mind
Strives to take up its clothes of fright and horror
As if torched with mother of bomb
Runs naked towards the camera lens
With my screams frozen in frame
That unknowingly and unconsciously adheres
To the severe fading wall of my bedroom.

That portrait of mine destined to hide its reality
Sinks in time warped depth of ocean
Damped with futuristic dirt and dust
Wailing a digger to reveal the quintessence of
An embryonic present matured to rare earth
Out of an ovary of pregnant futurity.

Quintessence

Dormant,
   I wake by the stream.
Past is the future of dreams.
I have been here before
Within this arctic wilderness, my core,
Silent as stone,
Lost and alone,
By myself
Once again.

Here now
   Before me, these tears
I had shed upon last lying here
Let crystals describe
Who I was back in time,
Shattered and broken;
Words left unspoken
As I see
Once again.

Snow on the bank,
Ice on a lake,
Frost in the trees,
Words in the breeze.

Over me,
   Cast through a tree,
A crooked cross crucifies me.
Above me, the sky
Filters all of the light,
Cracked and condensed,
A canopy bent
O'er this world
Once again.

Gray of the sky,
Black of the night,
Whispers of trees:
Truth told to me.

Here now
   I see what I was,
The shadow the truth of this cost.
Let rain effervesce
In this true wilderness,
Fractured and bent,
This petrichor scent
Is my soul
Once again.

Dormant,
   I sleep by the stream.
Future is past of a dream.
I will be, here again,
Washed away in the rain,
Silent as stone,
Alive and alone,
By myself
Once again.

THE QUINTESSENCE OF BITTERSWEET

Oh the quintessence of bittersweet,
a passionate love mixed with pain,
immolation that burns higher and higher,
to a tactile reddening, of face to feet.

Oh the ambivalent joy of holding hands
and slapping cheeks - our arcane moments.
You shudder with flamboyant majesty -
only your quiescent soulmate understands.

At your birth, the great intercessor, created
your luscious eyes and lips, so urgent, they plea,
in kind with mine, and embrace my love. Our God,
so pleased at a doppelgänger pair, thus we were fated.
