P-ure nuptial vows and bliss
U-se the words of love;
R-ighteousness they learn
I-s from the Father above.
T-he fifty-third anniversary of their marriage has come;
A-ll through their lives, the couple are not numb.
A-s the children remember them
S-eptember fifth Tuesday;
U-nder the wide blue sky,
N-o cloud has turned gray.
C-ommitted until forever
I-s the partners' promise;
O-ne faith and one trust make
N-uptial vows and bliss.
Dear Andrea,
Perpetual Nuptial
Was perpetual
Not only that nuptial
With much love was full.

It may sound incredible to the modern
The intelligent man may deride it often
Nevertheless, it is sensible to concede
That the heaven above ties nuptial knots.
Facts are stranger than fiction indeed
For believers no stout logic is required
To understand the ways of providence
That works in a strange way with ease.
The groom and the bride are handpicked
By destiny through a move well planned
Thus, all things necessary deftly managed
To carry out the design that is prearranged.
Love and longing are but barren words
Addition to the stuff for poetic jargons
It is the heaven above decides everything
That includes venue, time and the linking.
No one knows how it works, definitely
As it is impossible to delve into it deeply
It is good to accept and enjoy life merrily
For heaven above fixes marriages’ surely.
“Why d’you take so much care? Why don’t you dump her altogether?”
That’s the question they ask me for the umpteenth time and more.
She lies upon her bed; her blank stares pierce the mirror in front of her
The immovable torso that she has been accursed with lay facing the door
Twenty years ago met a beautiful girl with the man she liked
The courtship period soon passed by, the marriage was solemnized
Wedding guests had a sumptuous meal, everyone was satisfied
The fairy tale began; the new couple merry, their life was prized
Perhaps you thought the fairy tale would survive? Heck, no—
Two years later we were on a hilly terrain ride
Squall and thunder, a great boulder suddenly had a go
The car slipped and somersaulted; seconds later a tide
Gripped me by awe, my beautiful girl was in a pool of blood
She survived; only to be left in such a ruin
I was dumbstruck; had a great pain to evade the flood
Of public sympathy, anyway once again made ‘our’ life a-going
Since then we have been living here, people ask me why
I haven’t dumped her; left her at her own fate
People are crazy, their pokes and nudges should be kept at bay
Have you been answered? Well now I think am getting late
Several miles downtown my mistress’ bed is prepared; she must be looking my way
I had a dream the other night
that had me smiling with delight:
A couple with their backs to me
were taking vows of holy matrimony.
My delight turned to suspicion, for lo!
for the minister presiding was Waldo
Emerson? Then the couple in solemn tone
said “I do” pledging their love to each alone,
as they turned to face the congregation
applauding with joyous acclamation.
That’s when I recognized the bride
as none other than Amheart’s pride
Emily Dickinson, the eccentric
poet-spinster, the groom the pseudo rustic
Henry David Thoreau, of Walden Pond!
But even the best of unions are not beyond
the paranormal. And when he took her
to his self-built “mansion”,on seeing it
she grew pale and pleaded loudly in a fit:
Take me back to my father’s house this night
there’ll be no wild nights in this shack tonight!
Cherries pale yellow tinged with red
Colorful umbrella, mercurial spread
Mellowing veil hovers overhead
Hand staid until dark color, pungent odor wed
Nature's rhythms from youth nurtured in my head
In fowl, tell tale signs providentially inbred
Knowing beak is quicker than the hand brings dread
Before gravity can pull weighted cherries to rotting bed
My pruning hand to the luscious fruit is sentiently led
But wittier birds, for sweet treat, already fragile branches tread
Goring fruit: knifing peel, shredding flesh, tangy juices bled
Colorful, pock-marked marbles left for dead
Sun-dried, pitted prunes left in their stead
For aggrieved spite, all cultured inhibition shed
Manically, with fingers, stem lines forcefully unthread
I gaze upon the lovely face
Of my adored and loving bride.
So happy she is by my side
I pray the love we have now stays.
As we start on our life-long race,
Please Lord, be with us as our guide.
And teach us always to abide
In love and honor and true grace.
May we live our lives undaunted,
My love for him forever grow.
Let us not take love for granted
As the next years come and go.
May he know he is still wanted.
Remind me Lord to tell him so.

Shortly seeking to take you
As a witty in-law,
I am in anticipation.
Do you vow to:
Love and to cherish
Keep your sweetheart
Free of bruises?
Hold her in
Sickness and health
In wealth and poverty
Till death do you part?
My sister and her family
Come as one parcel
We sell not our daughters
To men of the night.
The night of your cross-over
The scorpions that sit on the road
Will be cursed!
The witch that holds the fallopian tube
Banished
The broken plates
Packed with a flourish!
That night of your celebration
I’m rebuking the okra
That will not draw
In Tosan’s pot (tafia!)
Cursed be the palm oil
That will not whiten
When bleached
Cursed be the tangled bedspread
To trip your legs
On your mattress!
Together, the gods will unite
In your case,
We shall blow the horn
Of joy
On that beautiful day.
As I eagerly seek to take you
As loving in-law
I am in haste!

A-gainst all odds they stay steadfast,

L-iving together in a lifetime,

N-ow is the moment to greet them,
N-uptial anniversary may be happy!
