Best Mortals Poems
Fragrance in garden.
Memories of fresh plowed earth.
Ghost of ancient planters plant.
Seeds that bloom in spring.
Burst forth in magnificence.
No eyes to behold grandeur.
Gone from this garden.
Where once fellowship had been.
Made to leave because of sin.

"Lord what fools these mortals be!" Wm. Shakespeare
I hesitate to be on the same page,
with I the greatest poet of the ages,
but I believe his words to be true now,
fools gathering when it is not allowed.
The fools don't care who they put in danger,
be it a love one or perfect stranger,
they have no conscious when told to stay home,
as out in the streets they carelessly roam.
So, the only way to make them comply,
big fines, long jail time, government should try,
in order to flatten the virus curve,
and help all the caregivers who serve.
If I am wrong and callus so be it,
remember the curve top we have not hit.

Sonnet
What lesser mortals?
What lesser mortals
than Rimbaud
claim themselves
a poet within
another self,
for there is more
than just one self
depending on the
time and day
and nothing
is as it seems
at first,
we are born
from abstract
firmament to the
Infirmament
arriving
planned and unplanned
in the in-between
swaddled in skin,
a nude shade of blue
turning pink
and revolutionary
the most sincere
we've ever been
we are slapped to
make loud noises
to prove we are alive;
we are small noises
for the most part
of our continuum
as we evolve
we reveal our
true colours
our different dimensions
bleed like water pastels
we are shades
and shadow of each,
easily morphing into
the will of others
less than
and more than likely
just to keep the peace
or challenge
subterranean night crawlers
from their obligatory big sleep
silent scarabs
black hats wearing
white hats
guarding gates
of ruined castles
like red caps
pacing the watchtowers
like laughing hyenas
for their better
bleached masters
who are small noises
for the most part

“As I was going down impassive Rivers,
I no longer felt myself guided by haulers:
Yelping redskins had taken them as targets
And had nailed them naked to colored stakes.
I was indifferent to all crews,
The bearer of Flemish wheat or English cottons
When with my haulers this uproar stopped
The Rivers let me go where I wanted.”
“And from then on I bathed in the Poem
Of the Sea, infused with stars and lactescent,
Devouring the azure verses; where, like a pale elated
Piece of flotsam, a pensive drowned figure sometimes sinks”

Narrative
Existence is jam-packed with such deadly traps,
You would wonder why its Author made it so;
You never are sure and ever live on borrowed time
For its turns may any time deal you a terminal blow.
You breathe when you find you can,
And will not be there to raise a query
Regarding your untimely and unfair decease,
When short it’s cut your mortal merry.
You suffer and cry when you have a tear,
And still get more of the dreaded stuff;
You make new resolves but your will is weak
And so you forget them all in a huff.
You know the way you should go
But your legs are light and easy to tempt,
So you end up taking the wrong course
And end up ruing the resolutions unkept.
If a believer, you increase your bootless prayers
And hope that someone up there will hear your cry,
But find your very woes increasing day after day
Till you accept your immutable plight and cease to try.
Whether blind rich or church-mouse poor, every man has his woes;
The poor man is ever crying over all the possible opportunities lost,
The young will always have to contend unfulfilled infatuations,
And the millionaire will ever bawl over a business deal unclosed.
So rather than file on through the shortened pages of time,
Men should spurn all the care and feel happy throughout;
In plenty and in dearth, in love and in hate –
For why invest in care and still have to doubt?

Verse
The road to heaven is before us
It is not difficult to find
It is enshrined in the word of God
Jesus is the way, the truth and life
And so we should not be frightened where we are going to
He is with us
If we put our trust in Him death becomes a comma and not a period
It is a debt that awaits all mortals
It is a path all mortals must thread
Because it is strewn with fear and trepidation
Man keeps wishing it away
Man must live every day as if it were his last
If we are prepared to die
Then we are prepared to live
Cause dying young or old does not matter
What matters is the grace to live hereafter
A good man may die young yet be satisfied with living
A wicked man is not satisfied even with long life
If we are ready to die, then we are ready to live!

The Sapient and the Sages
Instilling in the veins of Ages!!
Masked is the armour of love,
Narrating Fables of Gravity thereof!!!
Gravity was never for Mortals!
Moon behold the Earth with Chortles!!
Blazing in the form of Gravity !
Earth Tugged the Moon sans privity!!
For the love of the Orb of Night!!
The Blue Sphere displayed all his might!!
By Bearing the torture of the Wight..!
Although Smoke Blurred Its Sight!!
Gravity was never for Mortals!!
It was the love of Earth for the Moon!!

We pray to the planets for bestowing good luck,
And consult the stars for predicting our future..
We blame the universe for the misfortunes that happen,
And search the galaxies for hidden messages..
Asking and demanding,
Searching and seeking..
Yet the universe remains coldly silent,
Offering no solutions,
Providing no knowledge..
That should show us our place,
A speck of dust in the mighty universe,
A mere ball of matter and energy combined..
Yet arrongant enough to demand acknowledgement,
And vain enough to think he is superior!!

Prose Poetry
Medusa, Stheno and Euryale were threats to each other.
Their mother had to caution them to use their snakes wisely.
Typical sisters, there was much hissing, spitting and biting.
Their sitter had her hands full as their snakes were venomous.
Why did the gods give you snakes instead of hair? She lamented.
Gaze into my eyes! Medusa said to the sitter, her sisters laughed.
They knew what would happen, and of course it did.
The sitter was turned into stone, like all of the neighbors.

We the Mortals
As glamorous as it might seem
this world actually is hollow inside;
Those beautiful smiling faces
sure have sadness embed in;
There being no absolute measure
of happiness and tranquility;
Both playing hide and seek
sometimes lost, at times found;
As those big houses and riches
fail to give that content ;
Which a poor man feats
in collapsible hatchet at sea shore
that often slides into lunar tides;
Keep defying the truth
nothing will count on that final day;
My family, my children, my friends,
and my belongings over the years;
All my pride, my love and joys,
the grief, those tears, the sadness
the desires that slowly enflamed
my conscience inside out;
Absorbed into everyday rat race
In various hues of greed;
Selfishness soars high
and humility slowly withers;
Big fish eating smaller
man is now a different breed;
Changing colours quickly
quicker than the six seasons;
Why all this melodrama
and what for in the end to realise;
After losing all that youth in time
what if we emerged now as wise;
Too late the realm amidst flames
as mortality spreads its wings;
Engulfs the darkness
eloping into light of truth;
Until solace be found
In the very earth where we came from.

save those tears for the solitude of night
alone in your cold little widow’s bed
when gates open to memories flowing
still shellshocked by the emptiness
of his love suddenly gone
taking comfort in knowing
how it went down all so perfect
in every detail of every moment
how he slipped into the next life
like he was taking off a coat
with dignity and grace
because it didn’t fit anymore
stoic and brave
ready
after all
he was the olympian
ambassador in the first canadian team
tel aviv world paralympics
it was the summer of 1968
today they draped his body
with the national flag
as they carried him away
we stood in awe
saluting our last memory
out the door into forever
and now here lies the olympian
among mere mortals
at the foot of mount olympus
the man
the legend

Mortals
By Michelle Morris
31/03/2023
Here we mortals turn to stone
By our hardened hearts
And callous disregard
For each other and our planet
Let us embrace our humanity
And melt the hardness and tar
That holds us down and immobilised
That keeps us from freeing our souls
Imagine the light that burns deep within
It's inside you and ignites your soul
For you are starlight and stardust
The Universe's magic untold
Here we mortals can illuminate
The dark abyss and limitations
When we remember our true forms
Greater than humanhood bred or born
Let us embrace our divinity
And free the bonds for all to feel
So that we can rise higher and incandescent
Collectively beyond the present

Nights are long and days seem short…
Son of God loves pure light…
See the light at the end of the road…
Hopes and fears, of all the years are at rest…
Come with me, to pay respect…
While mortals sleep and angels weep…

As you pass by this yard
Do not make any sound,
The dead are asleep here
Six feet below the ground;
This a haven of peace
Which you will know to be,
When you come here to rest
In this cemetery.

Elegy
Never have I had fear for flying darts
My tingling thoughts of the world was weird
Many told of nature's hard hazards
Beauties I saw instead of dirties
So was my heart as a dove
Peaceful in a world full of fools
Like sunshine in sneaky shadows
No damnation I saw possible until that occasion
The first pain and I felt deeply-destroyed
Scattered and shattered like wild wind
Caged in red-rage I roared "betrayal"
And so I kept my territory terrorizing every threatening tare
Until the rainy day at the bar
A galaxy, a group of glitters I could not deter
In varying robes, different sizes and heights
To and fro they laughed in ecstasy
For me breathe ended, for with them my rage was for a wait
All I could believe was that the divines were here and near
The word "angels" seem to appeal
They were perfect and I gave my seal
You may be mortals but you're my divines
Nights and days with them now and all I see are divine mortals.

Want, not the need
That's the difference
The human creature is greedy
Much slighter than the birds and bees
They live life, human consumes life
Each day he/she gets poorer
Losing peace, joy and contentment
The poor thing is always a loser
Calling themselves as evolved
Human species are
Fad and folly personified
Victims of ego, craze and frenzy
Turning intellect and wisdom
Into nature's biggest fiction
The mere mortals are pigmies
Passing days in fear and suspense
Mirage, mirage and mirage
Nothing else
Aching for more and more
Oblivious of their inherent bliss
Turning gains into losses
Drowned in doomed destiny
Always hungry and demanding
The lesser ones swarm the earth
I wish I were a flower, butterfly or bee
Living life for the life’s sake
Untainted by desires and cravings
Merged with breeze and sunshine
Lying in the lap of sky and stars
Always in harmony with nature
With endless bounty of peace and joy
Echoing as a song of eternity
