Best Lamina Poems
Doth it not thrill thee, Poet,
Dead and dust though thy art,
To feel how I press thy singing
Close to my heart?
As though they were dried palm leaves
In Indian catalogue, your works
I would press so close
To my chest like man's third-leg
Snuggling to the thigh. I count
The beats straineously of the melody,
The vibrations of your works strike
Me to rhapsody. Who am I then?
A little child by the stream
Waiting for your sensual song, bird
To bide me somnolent
In a reveberating cacophony
Redolent of the train swiftly buzzing by,
The train that was you.
I would often sit at the threshold and wait
Till the moon grow to become sickle-thin
And the monstrouos night has sucked away
All the oil in my clay lamp. I still stay on
Like a good sentry, my eyes rummage hungrily
Through the pockets of a page,
Where the blood of your ink was shed-
For your sojourner I have become.
We will go together
In peregrination into the labyrinth
Of all those pages from the cream,
That was your brain.
I will be the mute acolyte,
Benignly I will wend,
Stepping into the trail you left like
Smoke unconcerned about direction,
Its flow turbulent, not the lamina vein
Of subtlety. Sometimes I feel cold,
My garb, goose bumps,
At the stark, sometimes shocking
Reality of your judgements.
You were and still is a victim of truth,
And I gloat at your judgements jealously,
Almost perfect. When not correct, you were
Honest, at least.
I would often dream
Of you smoking your pipe;
Your small, dainty frame silhouette nailed
To the wall by the pyrexed testis
Of electric bulb as Jesus to the cross.
Then your pipe bleed forth smoke
Like blood from fresh wound, seeping out
Ceaselessly, ideas sream forth from your brain
Like liquid from a boiling pot
Frothing over.
So I will proudly say I have
Some portion of your blood in me
To inspire my dazed memory
On those dark gloomy days.
for my uncle and late Nigerian Poet, Chris Okigbo.

The Ruba’iyat of Créteil Lake – Part Thirteen
Oh! Woe! Woe! On pubic islet the dirty deed’s done
Bloodied needle leaves stain the Zen-rock cobbled garden
The derelict torn womb spills seminal fluids on the ground
Fallopian tubes shredded by the elements count down
Her mons veneris rough-scaled and crushed by bombarding rams
The cicatrised wooden ramparts no more serving as soil dams
Not a lamina of palmate leaf even so much as shaking hands
Where the maple tree once swayed to vulva-lapping tom-toms
This soggy desolation of mud and gangrened charred rock
Three weeping willows drooping wan lifeless at the water mock
Where even the wild fowl desert the juicy period spoils
Tell-tale signs of the Lady Lake’s pilloried grief in stock
Where the surgeon’s thrusting irons reigned now stands the shiny
bridge
Three dark as dungeons evergreens bear lurid witness knowledge
Of an unwholesome demonic deed done to the locked-in Dame
Look! That Ancient Bard of Nishapur will surely acknowledge!
Hark! The tulip-lipped Lass from Lahore walks downcast on stones!
The Maiden of the Main lifts her head to utter bye-bygones!
Pale Ol’ Khayyam still roams dreaming of the Dame of the Lake!
Yet the foul deed still resounds up to the highest heavens!

_____________________________________________________________
In the dawn-like haze—a shriek was heard,
An echo so shrewd, yet birdless, oddly slurred
It was ordained by—a stratum unseen,
A throbbing coerce, a numen so keen.
A canticle flower—a bellow coarsely flung,
Through bosky drifts, those shadows clung.
The broken clavicle, brittle skull,
Doused in lacquer—a tale to annul.
Cried creative bone, from annals of time,
In a secluded hut—where lamina chime.
With guttural utterance—the gowk did sing,
Fluted notes on brinks of obsidian string.
Cloaked in the dimly lit mist, a canon of clamor,
Shaping the world with a mystic glamour.
In the glum of worship, a rite did splay,
As voices uttered—in a solemn display.
A corpse lay still, in the midst of the scene,
Dazzled by the entombing, a nebulous flesh serene.
Funerary hums—in syllabic verse,
Resonated through time, as a solemn curse.
In an urn—fugally adorned
With fugal melodies, the ashes were borne,
A symphony of sorrow, a requiem grand,
For the soul departed, to a distant land.
The misty air whispered—in mournful tones,
As the funerary procession made its way,
A solemn journey, through the mist, embrace.
To the final resting place, where shadows trace.
And so, the hum continued, a haunting refrain,
As the earth embraced the remains.
Silent and still—in eternal rest,
In the hallowed ground, the corpse was blessed.
Gone was the body, but the spirit remained,
A specter in the mist, forever ingrained.
A memory of life—a tale to be told,
In the echoes of time, where stories unfold.
In the depths of the mist, a legacy grew,
Of a life once lived, and the love that it knew.
The funerary hum—a reminder of grace,
As it carried the spirit to a heavenly place.

Debut of a Butterfly
Winged adults lay eggs on leaves.
Larvae glued on leaf- lamina to thrive and survive.
Later Caterpillar crawls out.
Ugly black creature with thorny spikes all along.
Caterpillar grows rapid chewing foliage!
Pupa or chrysalis confined in cosy cocoon
went on metamorphosis.
.
What a surprise beyond surmise !
Skin of pupa splits exhibiting adult insect
. with folded wings yet wet
letting to dry up and getting strong.
Then flies off in air flapping, fluttering wings.
It is a free frolic beautiful butterfly.
starting flight for the rest of life.
No chewing but sucking nectar
from flowers.

Indecision and weakness, selfishness and recklessness
Invade our personalities and sap from our souls stamina
When fleas, lice and bedbugs feed on our foolishness
Panel beating us flat and horizontal into the lamina
Mosquitoes, leeches, bacteria, plasmodia and viruses our bodies incapacitate
Leaving our mangy bodies vulnerable
As though we inadvertently chose to precipitate
Crises and conundrums that disable
Our broken bodies
Blowing them first left next right
When high energy eddies
Steal and peel our birthright
When fellow sinners despite their burdens
Join us in solidarity
As we fumble, grumble and stumble in the sorrow gardens
Where hypocrites look down on the majority
Communicate without speaking
Wincing at the sorrows they wish they knew
Quitting from burdens of life and quaking
Would render us inferior to the shrew
Who despite her smaller size put up a brave show
To grant us comfort and support
As we dodge the low blow
Fate strikes in a determined effort us from life to export and deport.

She tucks long hair behind her ears,
lifts him over dark breakwaters,
their eyes closed, she funnels him
into her purse seine.
Fingers fit watery gloves,
olive oil and rose water,
flavors spill over
Catalan rain clouds,
a musky tarragon,
a salty lamina
folded through
anemone fingers.
Later they watch a topaz sun
ride over waves
as it dips for darting anchovies.

FALl FLAVORS
Free fall of leaves on Fall.
Yellow dry leaves leave deciduous trees.
Fall flavors ! Abloom flowers.
Auburn Autumn to glow and blaze
Maple tree showing satin glaze erasing dryness.
Glossy leaf lamina on shimmering patina.
Breeze blowing to scatter leaves at random.
Pair of rabbits jumping in a pile of leaves.
Me lying supine on non mowed meadow
White cotton clouds floating slow above.
Collage of Sun and shadow playing
on furrow and on me.
Pair of reckless restless rabbits rushing, running,
jumping in a pile of leaves.
Me watching with lazy eyes:
Crazy rabbits are busy
to enjoy the game of long jump and high jump!
Me indolent to lie down enjoying Autumn environ.

sheen gathers, raven is the light of her.

Catalan rain clouds weep their sweet moments.
A tarragon musk, a salty lamina folded through
anemone fingers. Gestures flex and unwind.
A topaz sun rides over evening waves,
dips for darting anchovies, sinks into memory.

WINTER SONATA
We were in sweet honeymoon trip
in a rural area untouched by tourist.
Winter entered with utmost windy breeze
Smoggy ambient covered in cloudy canopy.
Low luminous shimmering Sun hiding itself
in misty dusty sky.
Dawn dew drops dazzling like diamond
on glossy glass blades and leaf lamina
greeted us at entrance path.
Our lavender love rolled, rippled on snowy splendor
in calm cold chilly wonder.
Icicles hanging from roof of our room.
On background shown mountain with snow cap.
Severe Winter felt guilt as we quivered even under quilt,
Ardent amour strongly desired for warmth .
Spent charming night, embraced tight in cozy sojourn.

Rains falling :
Small droplets forming ripples
on shallow pool
in concentric circles
growing bigger and decaying
reforming recreating .
Rains drizzle.
Raindrops
fall on leaf lamina
kissed by blowing breeze
in zest and zing.
Showers of raindrops
on running river
propagating merrily.
I am sensing smelling sadness of sky
releasing in cries of bursting clouds.
I am blending tears with rain drops.

KOMOREBI
Pushing dense bush walking in pathless forest
under tree canopy, continuous.
At dawn sun rays penetrating at best,
torching dark tunnel , making luminous.
Sunbeams filtered by leaves and foliage
interplaying sheen and shade to astound.
Komorebi cast on dappled image
forming lovely lattice on forest ground.
Komorebi caused by leaf lamina.
Pretty patterns to adorn forest floor.
Sunlight is sieved by leafage patina.
Wonder and dreams of sunbeam to adore.
Morn glow of Komorebi ! End of night.
Dark shadowed tunnel on opacity,
finding flash of thin shafts of twinkled light.
Profound pure pristine tranquility .
When sunlight shines through tree in environ
Contrast of light and shadow to receive
on re-energised radiant ion,
Komorebi to charm at morn and eve.
