improbable thoughts
leading me
impossibility thinking
detours me in every alleyway
sheer blind faith
belief in the goodness of the universe
saving me
guiding me
toward the bliss of myself

The human genome consists of 20 000 paired genes… about…

During meiosis, gametes are generated by randomly swapping genetic material… let's shout…

 2^(20 000) = 10^(6 000) possible sperm (proud of daddy)… boy scout…

 2^(20 000) = 10^(6 000) possible ova (proud of mommy)… far-out…

 2^(40 000) = 10^(12 000) possible zygotes… freak out…

 1 zygote in 10^(12 000) = Improbable Me… no doubt!

Premium Member An Improbable Season

He might as well be Xerxes
The most dominant in history
Towering twelve feet taller than his foes

The Spartans take position
But one of them is missing
Where Leonidas is it seems nobody knows

Though an improbable season
Spartans are all but beaten
When Xerxes comes the battle's good as won

A secret plan is brewing
That will be Persia's undoing
A mighty blow they'll not recover from

Emerging from his hiding
Battered but still fighting
Leonidas finally steps up to the plate

They stare down each other
The boldest boys of summer
A rivalry placed in the hands of fate

Leonidas takes a beating
On this October evening
It won't be good enough to reach a draw

But our hero is relentless
He swings for the fences
Now no one can believe what they just saw

Premium Member More Than Improbable

Long
ago,
a man said
I was special.
His aspiration
was to be a leader.
He vowed I’d be invited
to his island country as his
guest when this happened; I guessed this to
be improbable - an empty promise!

I longed for a love pure as driven snow
     and fresh as spring 'ere Youth's brief joys succumb;
but a love never transpired; and, although
denied, I carried on to life's autumn.
A maid, princess, or queen have I never
loved or with an ardent nymph passion-proved
lust's all-consuming fire; deprived forever,
I disavowed former hopes for a beloved.
So, thenceforth unblemished and innocent,
without sin and virtuous from west to east,
I surrendered my youth's prurient bent
and forswore my lusts to dwell as a priest.
Now old and bootless, I ne'er knew desire;
or pierced the flower of a maid on fire.

No Improbable Romance

Well I can’t figure it out,
How everything changed.
Was it just my perception?
Did I somehow become displaced?
The last beautiful thing to remember,
Is how we danced in the rain.
Our bodies were so close together,
There were never any worries of pain.
Now the moisture is in the eye,
Then there’s that pain in the chest.
Slowly being torn apart,
Tell me isn’t there anything left.

This was no improbable romance to me.
The past returns and haunts me in my dreams.
I look out the window only to find all those empty streets.
As I walk them my heart seems slower to the beat.
When we were together you gave me all the strength to believe.
With you gone my heart left exposed as it quickly bleeds.

Time passes by so slowly,
The light has seemed to grow dim.
This lump in my throat makes me feel like I’m choking,
Into this sea of pain that I’m swimming in.
Eventually with some time and love from others I’ll begin healing.
Yet I know it’s just your love I want.
I never imagined you would ever be a memory,
Left in my mind to painfully haunt.
I tell you I have never in my life felt so tired,
Honestly though I know that I won’t sleep.
I hear the seconds ticking by so slowly,
Then there’s my heart here left slower to the beat.

No I never thought this to be an improbable romance for me...

Premium Member Improbable Cookies

Returning home, you walk inside,
Awaken the olfactory.
There, resting on the countertop
Are cookies baked for all to see.

Your mind leaps to the obvious:
The signs all tell a story clear.
No baker did assemble these;
‘Twas happenstance that put them here.

Although no other evidence
Is satisfying in the whole,
The flour spilled from the canister;
An earthquake dumped it in the bowl.

Although we were at first confused,
We understand the eggs as well:
They teleported from the fridge,
Just yolks and whites, without the shell.

The gravitation of the moon
Combined with a solar eclipse
May have opened up a bag,
Contributed the chocolate chips.

An aftershock of magnitude
Somewhere between a five and six
Quite possibly could agitate,
Produce a firm dough from the mix.

The fluctuations in the lines
Of magnetism from the poles
Could open up the oven doors
And set the proper heat controls.

Although this last may seem a stretch,
Our statistician ascertained
A bird could grab some dough like eggs,
Drop on the pans, and then again.

The only step that would be left:
A thunderstorm with static spark
To heat those cookies up just right,
Awaiting your return at dark.

I know the chance of this is small,
But we’ll not dwell, no, mum’s the word.
What other option is there now?
This talk of bakers is absurd…

An Improbable, Distant Image

Reaching my golden age
was an improbable, distant image...
rarely thought of, or even visualized by me,
I still cherish the fancy-free boy that was me!

My careful footsteps have become slower,
and my skin is losing its gleaming, brilliant look;
I stand before my photographs displayed underneath
the hand-painted coat of arms with a disillusioned, displeasing glare!

Could that handsome young man be me?
His skin is so smooth and his teeth dazzling white,
lots of strands with curly hair reflecting a resplendent light...
he's smiling staring at his friend, who's kissing a girl called, "Mimi."

And unstoppable, bitter tears relentlessly flow; why haven't
childhood and youth waited another year, or even another longest day,
to let me breath with more easiness, seeing myself once again a virile lad...
how horrible and scary is to face the merciless phantom, who will take me away!

But this faith is too strong, and I can defeat any evil force;
and although I seem unable to fight as I did when strength was mine,
an angel will escort me to the gate, which will open to greet this faithful one...
not regretting anymore that improbable, distant image retreating and fading as reality itself!

Premium Member My Car

this is my car
it is green
and
it smiles at me
I love my car
and
my car
loves me
I know because
I’ve crawled inside
its womb
it kissed me
I will not marry
my car
but …
we will have

a nice affair

Lunas Improbable Utopia

Sky shining like a golden medallion
Colorful as a vibrant rainbow
Not just red, white and blue

Love flowing from the rivers
Cascading down like waterfalls
Suppressing, drowning corruption
Under foamy soft suds

Guilt be forgotten
Sin be forgiven
Imprisoned is the evil
Which lies deep in every flesh
Fettered, ball and chain

Judgeless hearts roam freely
Addiction leaves at once
A land so peaceful and full of freedom
For both you and me
Are lovers of humans

Premium Member Improbable History in Clerihews

Violet Jessup -
your fate was messed up.
You could say it really stank,
being on the Olympic, Titanic, and Brittanic when they sank.

Stephen Dennison
Dined on potatoes and venison,
but he got an urge, and stole some candy,
spent thirty years in prison. Ain't that dandy?

Mary, Queen of Scots -
was accused of approving plots.
That's what Queen Elizabeth said,
while ordering the removal of her head.
