Best Ikebana Poems
A
flower
in a vase-
ikebana
art
Bumble-bee on fruits
The silly me
The silly bumble-bee
Bumble-bee buzz in ears
Bumble-bee hovers on flowers
Flowers in Ikebana
Flowers spread fragrance
Fragrance of petrichor
Fragrance of coffee
Coffee with cream
Coffee with beloved
Beloved sent a greeting card
Beloved left to work
Work is worship
Work in a team
Team spirit wonderful
Team of hockey
Hockey is India's national game
Hockey stick is not a bat
Bat is a mammal
Bat and cricket ball
Ball is in your court
Ball room dance so captivating
Captivating sense of humour
Captivating talent show
Show your skill
Show of bike
Bike ride jolly
Bike with great capacity
Capacity to climb a mountain
Capacity to convince people
People make democracy possible
People gather to protest
Protest against atrocities on women
Protest in a peaceful way
Way to enlightenment
Way to waterfall
Waterfall largest is Victoria
Waterfall amidst nature
Nature so enchanting
Nature has answers
Answers so spontaneous
Answers witty and brief
Brief legal statement
Brief summer holiday
Holiday in a beach resort
Holiday tasting tropical fruits
Fruits of hard-work is success
Fruits so tasty and pulpy sweet
Sweet
Success!

The Mauve Moon
After securing bread and butter
Inside the head the colours clutter
Music of the magically mystic mauve moon
Seeks lyrics from the lunar lagoon
In the head arrive curious crimson clots
You dissolve them in dense blue thoughts
Thought crystals seek lights from the soft window
Tender trance travels to thrilling crescendo
Peeling the skin of a soft banana
Alights aloft a charming ikebana
Picking and choosing the fountain of flowers
The humming head spends on hours after hours
Thus emerges your lingering hints
In my head I seek poetic footprints
Mystic mauve moon in each brain cell
Inside the neurons your silhouettes dwell

One Sunday we went to this flower show
Some exotic varieties we got to know
We saw elaborate blossoms in every hue
Red, green, yellow, orange and blue
The ferns and foliage were beautifully displayed
Tastefully decorated creepers adorned an arcade
Dahlias in many colors surrounded an old tree
A bewitching sight to see, one would agree
The yellow Gazanias looked up at the sun
Rooted in their pots they were having some fun
The purple baugainvilleas, dressed like a queen
Inspired little Reina to gaze at the scene
The red and pink Carnetions popped their heads
The green grass-like leaves served as their beds
The red Kalanchoes bordered a pond
A white model of a crane appeared beyond
A concept bonsai park Ikebana stole the show
The stunted plants appeared never to grow
My wife got enthused at the brisk sale of potted plants
To satisfy her, I had to provide the grants
Apples are the early birds
Each pink and green mixed
Take us, put us in place
Yes, you are welcome
Smiles the gold plated goat's horn
The twilight cat meows
I'll hold the apples
Insist the maple leaves
Oranges join them
What a rainbow game
Comes up the cucumber
Amber light fondles it
From the bushes rises the voice
Why not me
Looks up the fruitlet eyes
Of the green pineapple scales
Holding up its vibrant tropical flavour
The horn is filling and collaging
Won't you make the Ikebana
The pattern on the rim of the horn
Grins the stems and leaves
Sure, said the tulip fingers
A gentle white and brown goat
Looks on from a small distance
The stockpot receives the treasure
Gourds grapes and chocolate too
The tulip fingers hold them up to her nose
Ah what a horn of an abundance
Is he free now, she says to herself
The teacher, a banyan tree in fact
The shade of the evergreen tree
Had healed her bleeding wounds
Which she couldn't speak about with anyone
The school teacher acted an umbrella
Turned the venom a sweet lemon
The regard had got converted into a blossoming rose
The evening under the tree is starlit
Raw green odours reach the lungs through nostrils
The cornucopia smiling in her hands
She hands it over to him, thank you
The golden owl mops the residual daylight
Fireflies weaving a lemon yellow story

He was intrigued
for she was different from the rest
and he found her complex
so he was challenged and perplex
there was a romantic complication
for she wasn't a mere possession
for though she had a strong resilient nature
she was as soft in love as Ikebana flowers
she was a woman before her time
for she endures danger, and takes charge
and in silence, to be his support, climb
but still has a fierce independent part
and he declared his love for her
when dangerous conditions grew
and told his strong silent woman
'you are my passion, the gentleness, l never knew'
