To Loves End

He was intrigued
for she was different from the rest
and he found her complex
so he was challenged and perplex

there was a romantic complication
for she wasn't a mere possession
for though she had a strong resilient nature
she was as soft in love as Ikebana flowers

she was a woman before her time
for she endures danger, and takes charge
and in silence, to be his support, climb
but still has a fierce independent part

and he declared his love for her
when dangerous conditions grew
and told his strong silent woman
'you are my passion, the gentleness, l never knew'

Such a heartfelt piece, Jacqueline. I love the balance you show between strength and softness in the woman’s character. That last line really hit me — “the gentleness I never knew.” Beautiful work!
