Best Heartens Poems
Closer We Get, The Farther We Look Back
Sad dying embers of yesterday's feast
interest and feed me not in the least
For the hearty joys that future shall give
heartens me to strive forever to live
Great memories of my family's past
flow blessedly with me until the last
Into the dark void my soul may soon fly
my past good and bad I will not deny
Returning often in my long night dreams
she of ravishing beauty, skin of creams
Memories of loves that took a wrong turn
yet with it all, my restless mind still yearns
Closer we get, the farther we look back
cherish our memories we stay on track

Wrap your heart around the beautiful
Calming, soothing – in hues of joy,
Hope like nothing on earth can destroy…
Gentling the doubts, the confusion
With light that abides in the breathless
Portrayal of love, secreted in spirits
Who know that His life was the model
For our existence, our faith – our inspiration
Silencing worry and blessing with grace
Remember the moment when He smiled,
Speaking peace through your life,
Engaging your dreams with His encouraging
Stirring up passions, humbling, stunning
Miracles preventing the darkness
From obscuring the promises, the wishes
The everlasting peace, sweet serenity
Who abides inside the hearts, the minds
The souls of those who hear Him
When His voice trembles, echoing belief
Religion can never grasp the wonder
Love this alive, this electrifying – enlivening
Is more potent, more powerful, more mighty
Than any pleasure, any thrill, any desire…
This is love that is more than real – it is Him
The One who warms the spirit with joy,
Heartens the nature of those who adore Him,
Erases the temptations and revives the soul
With inspiration that bleeds through every fear,
Urging hearts to love beyond what we know…
With a love that only He can control – love
That is the author of my joy, the creator of my
Hope – the wisdom that I know is always
More brilliant than anything I might force
His love is the reason that I can honestly say
I know what it means to believe in grace
That is so wonderful it feels like –
God’s embrace!

God breathed
Hope across my soul
Music into my thoughts
Joy all over my heart
God breathed
Laughter into my mind
Pleasure on my ideas
Kindness across my feelings
God breathed
Inspiration over my plans
Harmony into my designs
Sighs of love on my spirit
God breathed
Wonders across my beliefs
Miracles to whisper praise
Admiration into my faith
God breathed
Satisfaction on my essence
Gladness across my dreams
Poetry into my allegiance
God breathed
Insight into my strength
Purpose over my reveries
A song over my mood
God breathed
Courage onto my character
Marvels over my delight
Enlightenment into the night
God breathed
Tenderness through my judgements
Affection onto my generosity
A light that leaves me encouraged
God breathed
A promise that heartens my attitude
A devotion that colors me brilliant
A wisdom in the center of my giving
God breathed
Warmth over my yearnings
Gentleness onto my provision
Compassion through my personality
God breathed
Stardust through my vision
Pearls of ecstasy on my depths
Assurance of His eternal love
God breathed
And I existed
God breathed
And I listened
God breathed
And I worshipped

SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL & UPLIFTING – PRAISE, WORSHIP, & PRAYER
There is no reason to be down and out.
The sun still shines in the sky when raindrops.
Smile now because this is your time to pop.
We really want to hear your thoughts about…
Life love joy rapture pleasure thrills bliss blessed
There is cause to be irrefutable.
You know the heights of life uplift others.
Happiness esteems and solidifies.
Each time you strive, you find that the world thrives.
Uplift life elevate mind and inspire…
There is purpose to take on; therefore,
Give heart to another and cheer to the
dishearten. Raise spirits to encourage
deification of our creator through praise.
Mother Earth is our celestial orbit.
Peace seekers we are in spirit and truth.
Love and harmony is for all dwellers.
Let us join on native topography.
Hold hands sing from the voice of the patriot
Scale the endless strife of diversity
To meander in our conflicting journeys
So that our life is a religious hub,
Which brings forth faith in the omnipotent.
The crux of our essence edifies soul.
Elucidation is magnetic force
Mesmerizing all the people involved.
We shout in our synagogues worship
Via life force, which is cognizance.
Oration heard from the heights of trouble.
Just a closer walk with God was words voiced.
A proclamation so great, tears came forth.
I know the Lord exclaimed the choir from the
balcony while others were praying in
the aisles. Oh Lord have mercy on me.
There was no doubt that salvation was there.
The expression was that the Holy Ghost
had entered. Utterance of faith is with
all. An enduring completed through the
works of God. How were the burdens taken
to a place of repost? The Lord keeps me
safe and warm. Through veneration and
extol, prayer; praise; and worship heartens all.

Oh how you cantilate and croon,
On pilfered beams from Mr Moon,
Quite dapper, your tuxedo tails,
Yet stolen, too, your every tune.
It's not through lack of expertise,
Or dimming strains of vocal ease,
That you're persuaded to perfect
All other's songs in grand reprise.
Such voice to set your dame afire,
The chorale king without his choir,
There inside your feathered breast,
A heart that thrums with lilt desire.
Those jealous rivals hush to hear it,
Your damsel heartens to be near it,
The grandest copycat thus known -
Of sharp attire ... and dulcet spirit.

Personification
My muse is here, seeds in my heart abyss
invokes a soul to wake and open up
a solid earth shall treasure such a bliss
and oceans are spared for me to grow up.
A best seed of Love, a soul, ever to grace
reaching my soil, digging up my gardens
the scent of divine, the mystery of space
enlightens my spirit and my Self heartens.
A flame of Life meant to glow and brighten
the darkest of dark and every sealed whole
the core of awareness, to touch and heighten
lit paths to walk and ascend, one is my dole.
Intense powers moving through my vessels
reloaded beyond control, the pain immense
what permeates my senses is new and special
the flow so mighty, dashing every single fence.
My poetry drinking from that pure well
unstoppable surge running in her veins
seeking fathomless beauties out of her shell
charmed trying to take over the reins.

When of the world of doctors,I am sick.
When diagnosis is not any aid
When from the choices given, I cannot pick
Although I feel my deepest debts were paid.
Then off from thinking I must take my mind
To gaze upon the beauty of the woods
And feel the sun not fiery, even kind.
It warms and heartens even my cold blood.
The trees are calm for they have grown deep roots
Though storms may strike their trunks and branches too
breaking off new tender green tipped shoots
They sway and take it without much to do.
Strength needs flexibility and give;
With no such, the brittle shall not live

Do You Love Yourself in God’s Will?
Do you think you love your soul as much as I do?
You should honor this fact: You’re a part of God’s will
for my life, and your dregs are a buoyance, lift boat
of my soul! Who’s more blessed? And who sleepwalks through rhymes
where a heart is laid bare? Are my boundaries walls
you’ve got right (and should violate) seeking what’s True?
Is that message from Christ, sourced by your sinful soul?
To “give Caesar what’s owed” (1) (and so honor man’s laws)
is a call to respect ALL our siblings in Christ.
To declare you “know” God (and think you’ve got the right
to tell others what’s true) PROVES you don’t grok God’s love! (2)
Does your heart’s love eclipse light from heaven above,
or are blessings God plants in your path brighter light?
Is a “love” you can trust more a love that you heist
or a love you secure through a threat (fang and claws)?
Is love’s gift more your purpose or sought (a frail goal)?
What is said here’s my gift (or, more humbly, a view
I am longing to share), but I’m open to calls
that may question my muse-sage (with Grace toward my crimes).
That my worth pays the rent feels a chance more remote.
What’s True moistens what’s dry; Its warmth heartens souls’ chill.
May Christ’s Grace prove sin’s cure ‘till this world says, “Adieu!”
Brian Johnston

Poet’s Notes:
(1) In speaking of about the legality of taxes, Christ said, “…Render therefore
unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
(2) Shouldn’t all faithful followers of Christ not take more notice of the implicit
humility of Christ’s words in John 12:44? “…He who believes in me, believes
not in Me but in Him who sent Me,” and in John 12:49, where Christ says, “For
I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent Me gave Me
a command, what I should say and what I should speak.”

BLESSED DAY
At the crack of dawn
Begins another day
Call of chirping birds
Drowns the sloth away
Eggs us on to
Forget all woes
Gives us impetus
Heartens our souls
In the sweet warmth of sun
Jeers withheld melt soon
Kindles our spirits anew
Leads us to a bright noon
Moving with alacrity
Nimble footed and sure
Off we set to our goals
Purposeful and secure
Quite daunting sometimes
Roads we take may seem
Still we persevere forth
Till the lamp posts beam.

Joyful O joy excelling
Feeling filling lips exalting praise
May the heartens live in malaise
Gnash under the ravishing heat like a praise
To him to whom they live to relive
In destiny thwarted, forgotten to have ever lived
All ye praise to God to whom they disbelieve
His eyes see through the seething darting eyes of Lucy
The morning light, what a sly
His vain beauty lies a fly praise
That housed his beautiful ambiance holding His praise
To whom he disbelieved
What a Shylock
How 'tis to see the fanning seething heat
Ice cold laugh Lucy enjoins his own
He knows he only needs more of them
As a company in his quest for destruction

Prose Poetry
The night in silent splendor spreads a magic play
of a million stars and the suave, sly Moon
unchains the childish breeze that rushes over the sea and away
towards lofty mountains far; and sings to me a lovely tune
of my love song; O, shall carry it over the endless sea
which heartens the shores with unending kisses and shows
shimmering images of earthly light as those of the portals of eternity
and deep within hides numberless secrets forbidden, who knows?
In the trees a pair of night birds plays; my heart simmers
and the blossoms seem to tease me, their fragrance spent.
Is the creation happy because I am in tears?
Pleasures are bountiful, yet for me naught is meant
everyone seems heartless and each joy is undone
how may I celebrate nature,my love, when I am alone?
And though now I spend my night with the Moon
my soothing companion will shortly be gone
as he shall meet his beloved too soon
beneath the silent, secretive ocean.
That lovely blush will also disappear
from the tender petals of the pink rose
then with whom shall I seek cheer
when these flowers shall their fragrance lose?
All fantasies and fables lose their capacity
and the beautiful moments that make me happy
shall pass away and no further comfort me.
Alas, for a wretched loner there is no company.
Thus deserted, when I think of thee
All my hours and flowers return to me!

Love flows through
The spirit who knows Him
The way, the truth, the life
Abiding on the inside
Whispering hope on the soul
Who hears His word
And knows…
The wonder of grace, precious faith
Raining through each prayer
Embracing the life who agrees…
His light reflects the passion, the praise
Of a heart who knows He is King
Love flows from the heart
Who hears His words and knows
There is joy for those who listen and receive
The beautiful promises of One who brings
Hope to the spirit, faith to the soul…
Love that inspires…
Hearts to know what it is
To believe in His assurances, His grace
The reflections of serenity
Brought to life in the souls of those who know Him
The One who is kind and wise and gives…
Every heart the spirit that comforts
The One who brings solace
The One who heartens
Love like this is complete
It stirs feelings of abiding relief
Gladdens the spirit and cheers the dreams
Of those who simply listen and believe
He is the way to find unending peace!

In sullen silence
darkness looms my thoughts
writhe with your absence.
My eternal grief.
A maze existence
till heartens soul rots,
ill vex incumbrance.
Longing your essence,
lumbering time jots
muffle remembrance.
My eternal grief.

He reminds me every morning,
As the sun caresses the peaks and thoughts
Whispering peace and promise, prayer
Through my spirit, where He resides…
That His love is forever true,
A love so alive it fills my heart with beauty
My soul with grace – sincerity, praise!
He lifts my heart with each dawn,
Singing blessings through my yearnings
Releasing my spirit from the darkness
Nighttime shadows, doubts – anxieties
The many reasons that I find Him to be
The best thing in my life, the King
The abiding peace and acceptance
The love that directs me – faith that protects me!
He guides me through this life,
Always assuring and encouraging, steering me
Toward the light, where I can find my prayers
Stirring His heart, His support, His promises…
Inspiring my faith to believe, always
Sure of His wonders, His gifts
The sanctification that He brings
The joy, the song that brings peace
He silences every fear and doubt,
Colors my hopes in hues of revelation
Insights into the mystery of a love
That heartens and nurtures, persuades elation
Pearls of wisdom, the fruits of the spirit…
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
He assures me of these gifts,
And so much more…
He promises to be with me through it all,
The good and bad, the happy and sad,
Through the shadows of doubt
In the darkness of night
Shimmering in the skies, starlight
Reflecting all the love that He supplies
To the life who becomes a living sacrifice…
His child, following the Savior
Believing and blessing, always confessing
He is the way, the truth, the life
He is the reason for every star in the sky
He is the hope that helps me to survive
He is the Son who makes my life worthwhile!
