No Greater Love

For God so loved this sinful world, He gave us all His son;
That we might live with Him one day, when life on Earth is done.
No greater love was ever known, no greater gift bestowed,
And for the love He sacrificed, no greater debt’s been owed.

The time was short for Jesus Christ, but what He gave mankind
To lift our hearts and save our souls has yet to be refined.
The grace and style in which He moved through politics and fools,
Has paved the way for paths we trod through worldly ways and rules.

His teachings spread throughout the land, His miracles renowned,
He only had to touch a life to show His love was sound.
Two thousand years have come and gone since Christ communed with man;
And with his dying saved us all, to serve God's ancient plan.

He rose from death, as He had said, and proved His word was true,
That life eternal waited those who choose to suffer through.
Salvation came that fateful day, the Bible tells us so;
And time has shown that through God’s love the weakest spirits grow.

Now, modern times are hard on us and cause us all to doubt,
For change is there at every turn, and Satan’s always out.
It’s now we need the love of God, for always, as before;
Just lift your heart and ask for it, and see what lays in store.

It’s through God’s love we handle change and how it makes us strong
In ways we deal with worldly things and sort the right from wrong.
For change is just another way the Lord sees fit to use
To make our days seem fresh and new with paths to take and choose.

It’s by our faith we live our lives and seek a brighter day,
And how we find the confidence when doubts get in the way.
But most of all it’s happiness that faith’s been known to give
When our misfortunes come to cloud these modern times we live.

We need not fear what God has wrought. We need not know His plan.
We only need to know He’s there, and love’s in store for man.
Just think the words you’d ask in prayer, and ere a sound be heard,
His perfect love will fill your heart before you’ve breathed a word.

No greater love was ever known, no greater gift bestowed,
And for the love He sacrificed, no greater debt’s been owed.
But God forgave our debt to Him, we live in grace today;
The greatest love you’ve ever known is just a breath away.

Premium Member No Greater Hero

Struggling through the Great Depression
Growing up fatherless in the care of a loving aunt
Losing her husband, his weary mother could not cope

Working for the Civilian Conservation Corps
Trying to support his family
Attending school at night to provide a better life

Playing his sax and clarinet
Resounding notes of joy cast blessings
Filling our home with happiness many children never know

Loving eyes and deep, gentle voice
Drawing admiration from all who came to know him
Speaking softly, never in harsh tones

Accepting life’s challenges
Forgiving when his children seemed ungrateful
Nurturing, caring, standing by our sides

Picking us up when we fell
Offering support in every endeavor
Being the kind of father he never had

Teaching us to work hard and achieve
Reminding us that life offers no guarantees
Encouraging us to rebound from challenges as “come-back kids”

Gathering at his hospital bedside New Year’s Day 2009
Astonishing nurses with the depth of our love
Never leaving his side, three grown children rested hands upon his

Lingering six days in a coma, perhaps his soul already in heaven
Speaking to him, hoping he could hear
Wanting him to feel our love one last time

Siblings who rarely agreed
Concurring just this once
Feeling blessed by our father, the brightest star we see in heaven

Premium Member A Fear Greater Than Death

There is just one thing people fear more than death
Speaking before an audience

Really, more than death?

Premium Member The Greater Reward

He who gives to another
       takes the greater reward
     Give whatever you can
       a poor man a snub can't afford

     Seek opportunities for giving
       They're yours for the taking
     One kindness leads to another
       ~ There's no mistaking

Their Greater Sin - Pet Hate

THEIR GREATER SIN

They call one who speaks for Liberty a Fascist
They claim man made end of world as a proven tenet
And to them ‘free’ means imprimatur to ravish
Expressed with many a ‘You know’ ‘It’s like’ and ‘Ennit!’

They proclaim themselves as ‘liberal’ though they favour
The hard politics of socialism central
With a strong taste of Marx in its flavour
That just gives me an affliction in the ventral

Of dark villainy I now seek to accuse
And reserve a special torment to confer
Not for all the sins above from which I bruise
Nor self righteousness they constantly aver

It is the painful wounds for which there is no bandage
Their cruel destructive treatment of the English Language

The All Power Is Greater

THE ALL POWER IS GREATER!

The Big Bang designed the stratosphere and troposphere.
Below both majestic presence, Earth is the topography.
Today, all God’s creature roams freely.
Human being munificence is magnanimousness.

Now sits a child fulfilled.
She has her ink pen.
She aspires to be a writer – a great poet someday.
She is real to a righteous path.
Her themes and topics display a certain initiative.
God’s kind of poetry she leitmotifs vigorously and the melodies manifested.

A theological epitome inner cores and personification of the spirit went aglow.
Her radiance was beautiful.
Her voice recited the glory of the omnipotent.

God had sent the gift of psalm and she embraced him with open arms.
Baptism converted her soul to be a modern-day Apostle of the Lord God.

Prophecy she formed.
Wisdom and knowledge was born.
Her innateness was so strong that she was a natural.
Her libretti brought smiles.
When a release was necessitated from emotional dismay, her librettos bring
     hope and puts God’s speed in place.

The Lord God sent the gift of psalm.
In a whisper, is the strength of voice.
The Lord God provides the power.

The people exclaim, “This is God’s kind of poetry.”
Eloisa proclaims, “This is praise and worship of the omnipotent."

Man's Quest For A Greater Future

Sunken man, a mystery in the making
 earth gives and gives to we so selfishly taking
Blue sky, giving color to a tired, hectic life
 time to sit to rest , to break from daily strife

Shattered homes, they decay as we flee
 racing into a future we imagine , so rarely ever see
Earth eats up , the mess we so often make
 shouldn't man rest, rest from all the greed and take

Parched and dry ground, foundation we need
 as we cut and stab we see not all the terrible bleed
Mother earth a bounty, yes, tis Heaven sent
 we must stop, enjoy before all earthly beauty is spent

A rest, a hope, before onward we often so foolishly race
We that take too much and rarely ever bother to replace!

Premium Member Great-Great and Greater Grandma

From deep recesses of my mind
I bring a great great-grandma’s face.
She left no photograph behind.
I dream her dressed in bits of lace,
Tatted perhaps by her own hand,
A talent she didn‘t leave to me.
She labored and loved and lived and left
No memories for her progeny.

I’ve traced her name, all I can do
To give her substance, make her real,
A living being who could cry
Could laugh and all emotions feel.
There was a time I could have asked
Her granddaughter of what she knew.
That chance is now forever lost
No one is left to give a clue.

Dear Grandma I lend you my pen,
Please tell about the life you led.
Be free to speak your mind through me
And say the things you would have said.
A wealth of stories left untold
And lessons from which we could have learned.
Dear Mollie Blosser, I’d then record
The place in history you have earned.

one feels each word, not only in this wonderful dedication to her father,
but in every poem she writes,

The Greater Good

...a tribute to those who gave
   their lives in the Battle Of Britain

               ********

On high in blue and saffron flight,
a swoop, then upward soar again,
all through the day and into night,
the guardian of my fellow men.
I'm unaware of whom I kill,
nor sentient of the souls below
who scramble 'neath outcrop or hill,
and huddle, be I friend or foe?
No order, nor the call to arms
compelled my journey to the skies,
an instant urge, bereft of qualms,
drove me to question truth from lies
and challenge my mortality.
To vie for human brotherhood,
the measure of eternity,
the struggle for the greater good.

Greater Is God

God is greater than the crush that caused the crater
The liars that always said, "Not now but certainly later."
The promise of pay to the delivery of dust
The raising of hope...happiness turns into rust
Always another tall tale about tomorrow...about some sunny day
They're like metal to a magnet...stuck like glue
Scorched like moths...screaming in the flames

God is greater than those monstrous mind movies
Playing so savage in the static
Like toys in the attic with see through souls
Broken, bent and bad way down in bottomless holes
The cruelty of cowards...go along to get along
That same sad song
Sometimes you've got to stand even when there's nothing to stand on
Stretching my soul like a rotted rubber band...any second set to snap
Smiles of sarcasm leave their own sick stamps
Light a lamp or damn the dark
Time to bite and not to bark
Take it out of the park and out of the playground
Shine that spiritual light on the lost and never found

God is greater than any supernatural serpent
Any superpowered evil eyed murder and money makers
Treasure takers and twisted tools
Tragic fiends and terror fools
Friends and foes alike with multiple bad beliefs
Scarecrows made out of sticks and straw who think they're made of steel and stone
Flooded with fear they stay all alone
Lost in clouds of confusion...destructive are their delusions
Beaten and bruised...blackened and blue
No will to win...born only to lose
Consequence for the chaos
Come down to my knees as I take it to the cross

God is greater than any hellion or hater...any psychopathic puppet on paper
Any crime crusader or insanity invader
Nevermind this nightmare
This world of wickedness that's full of homicidal henchmen and treacherous traitors
Yeah, I know the truth and the truth has set me free
God is greater and greater is He

Premium Member A Greater Chore

The bathroom lacks your spare change scattered,
and my bank account is no longer flattered.
Your socks are no longer sprawled on the floor,
but everyday entails a greater chore.

There's certainly far fewer dishes to scrub,
but there's no companion to enjoy my grub.
I'm no longer someone's personal maid,
but the lack of your traffic makes me afraid.

The covers are tucked on your side of the bed,
but fluffing the comforter is a simple dread.
The satin sheets no longer unfold you,
and this beating breast has no chest to mold to.

A cabinet drawer hangs, and my bouquet is bent.
As I weep, the dripping sink seems to lament.
If you're with the Holiest, and only know bliss,
I wonder if you're oblivious, or you witness this.

If the latter, is your perspective so much greater,
knowing I'm a blink away from the Creator?
By the grace of the Savior, I wait for your return,
when these eerie ashes will leap from your urn.

Premium Member No Greater Pain

Hope is a collage of fragmented feelings
that fan the embers of today;
scattered amidst yesterday's ashes.
Stoking the sputtering flames of tomorrow;
egos and pride parade brazenly
upon dreams of love;
drawing the heart's attention
to unfulfilled fantasies of youth.
Betrayal is a bitter pill to swallow:
so you try washing it down with tears.
But your broken heart draws painful emotions
from the wounds of memory;
like a poultice.
And so, you don one of your many masks,
stored upon life's ethereal shelf;
and smile, as your world falls apart, piece by piece.
Yet, there can be no greater pain
than when the dagger of rejection pierces your heart.
For you have failed to find
what you've been looking for all your life;
the missing half of your soul.
But hope won't let you stop searching;
for somewhere out there
your soulmate is looking for you.

With Beauty Greater Than A Peacock's Preen

Of all the great new dawns, Spring gifts the best
With sunbeams racing to glisten new green.
In all of Nature, she survives each test
With beauty greater than a peacock's preen.
Thy teeming wildlife, most welcomed minions
O' friend, thy gifts sing in so many ways.
With sweet Hope and Truth thy bold companions
From day's promise to final ending rays.
When new grass sings its highest gracing songs
Thy miracle, telling this world to bow.
Thy birth, taught all that all truly belongs
To the whole, future promise and the now.

Of all the great new dawns, Spring takes the cake.
Why not celebrate each, for goodness sake?

No Greater Love Hath These

Glistening bayonets, buried deep in the sand,
while atop the helmet crowns their lives;
They died alone on this foreign dirt,
while back home a mother cries.

Bloody Dog Tags and a folded flag,
awarded to parents torn in two;
Tears crash down on the coffin door,
as a father cries, "I'm so very proud of you".

For God and country and liberty,
so their children can live in peace;
For brothers in arms fighting along side them,
no greater love hath these.

So cherish your children while you can,
and pray for them on your knees;
For they too may travel off one day,
To die for you and me...
