There is just one thing people fear more than death
Speaking before an audience

Really, more than death?

I'll be amazed if this wonderful piece is not placed in the top three. Another writing gem by you Carolyn. What a hurdle he has climbed, sometimes we don't know how lucky we are >> James

This is an inspiring story of overcoming odds. I like the message and the theme flows very well. The rhyming pattern is also uplifting. Great job! Joseph

Oh wow, Carolyn :) This is one inspirational story!! I've just been here on the Soup all morning and twice I get to read poems that gave me chills in a good way---this is one of those--my cousin had muscular dystrophy and he was not so lucky to have had the same support as Jake--wow, I am truly awed by his strength of character! Bravo to him and to you for sharing this with us :) --nikko :)

this is a great entry, Carolyn. Wow, it was quite the image that stayed in your mind to impact you later in life! As for my villanelle, that was an oldie, not my contest entry. But I hope I made the right decision not entering THAT one. haha Good luck in Frank's contest. LUv, Andrea

i love this write! its so inspiring and uplifting. and jake's quote is by far amazing."you all thought i would fail.. just by seeing what is outside of me.." a great person, he is. building "esteem" on a personal matter is one thing we all need to do, its apart of our everyday lives. im favoriting this. have a great night, Carolyn.. ~Always&Forever Lynette

An excellent poem, as usual Carolyn! A definite winner!! A fantastic story all young people need to hear! I wish you good luck in Frank's contest, even though I'm aware that you don't need my "good luck", lol! Have a good evening! Love, Audrey
