A Ship Is Safe In the Harbor

A ship is safe in the harbor,
But that's not what ships are built for.

Because in the sum of our human gleams,
We have created the vessel for our dreams.

Its purpose: to retrieve the alien shore,
To scout, seek, achieve and explore.

A ship is meant to fly and fly,
To seize the horizon and capture the sky.

And the few of us with the intrepidity,
To brave the virulent vortex velocity

We are the wealthiest of men ever to dream
And ever to combat a sea or a stream.

And the harbored ships that fritter away,
Slowly begin to rot and decay.
Never has there been a greater waste of a day,
Than that spent harbored,
Than those of us who stay.

Premium Member Deep In My Soul, Something's Not Right

It seems that I write and I write and I write
and somehow that's not really alright
to fritter away these precious moments
Just when did I assume I'd the right...

I sense that it's become a stale habit
a morbid ritual, fatalistic, hoary rite
Deep in my soul, I know something's not right
that I write and I write and I write...

Premium Member Slam the Slam, Shall We

We are all born
To a world seemingly full of interesting diversity
But why do we slam each other
Instead of accepting and living together
Do we not need each other’s support, sometime?

When we slam others we forget
We slowly shut the door on ourselves
And stop growing except bloating in size
And wasting precious resources
Which are meant to be shared amongst all humanity.

Each one must grow to mature somehow
And learn to endure the adverse
And the idiosyncrasies of things around
That change constantly on ground
In a collective effort to blend human needs with nature.

Is anything permanent except history?
So why not make it memorable
For us and future generations to cherish it
And build newer avenues and rising ever higher
Through cooperation and mutual respect.

We need to knit a grand slam team
Of entire humanity
To go onwards and upwards
Like steel alloyed and put to steam
Whose frames do not corrode easily through time.

Alone we sure fall downwards
And perpetuate the differences
Those obliterate our collective achievements
For creation is difficult to achieve
But easy to fritter away on triviality.

Slam kills the feelings of care and love
Spreads hatred and scares the dove
Warmth of fellow beings brings succour
Allowing unimaginable feats to occur
So let us slam the slam, shall we?

Jungle Stillness

In the deepest green of Earth
Are undisturbed moments
Spaces filled with lurking silence
Omnipresent, incomplete.

Then like wandering notions
The sounds of its residents
Will burst through the facades
Intermittently, without warning
Then fritter away into shadows
And once again there is the quiet
Of the jungle in its stillness.

The burning eye of the high cerulean
Has not spied all its secrets
As canopy in pride and glory meets it
And below the jungle rules.

Night, a solid wall of blackness
Day, in random bars
Here, a violent scent
There, a flaming tincture
Everywhere is dampness
And pungent mulch perfume
Rising at each footstep.

Adventurers or fools would enter
Then the foliage surrounds them
For the jungle absorbs all
And all bar none.

Premium Member It's Not the Years In Your Life, It's the Life In Your Years

Don’t waste your life with regretful tears.
“It’s not the years in your life,
It’s the life in your years”
Abraham Lincoln spoke these words,
Some of the wisest I’ve ever heard.

By these wise words I work or I play.
This day is as precious as one to come
And the longest has but a very brief stay.
Each is a part of the total sum
And much too important to fritter away.

Hobbies

Medicine is my lawful wife, and literature is my mistress. When I get fed up with one, I spend the night with the other"
Anton Chekhov

After a hectic stressful day
Some time for ourselves every day
Doing that which gives joy in every way
Few moments of happiness and gay
Every one should pursue some passion I say!

Hobbies keep boredom away
Passions drive stress away
When sad passions provide a way
They bestow joy without delay
Every one should pursue some passion I say!

When passions become profession and pay
Our work seems like a play
We are exhilarated full day
Success automatically comes our way
Every one should pursue some passion I say!

When body is aged, hairs are grey
When our strength does betray
Our passions like morning sun's ray
Prevents darkness and dismay
Every one should pursue some passion I say!

Childhood, kids should not fritter away
For nurturing talents set aside some time every day
Pursuing extracurricular hobbies keeps them gay
Boosts self-confidence in every way
Every child should pursue some passion I say!

Some love music, some in painting feel gay
Some love sports, for some in poetry happiness lay
Inner joy keeps illness at bay
Advantages of hobbies do outweigh
Pursue some passion without delay!

Man's Work

OH THE whole worlds come, come all
We fill up the world maritime with soil-
I know that is against natural appeal
Therefore our precious time shall we fritter away;
For where we hollow out the soil from
There shall we leave another sea-
Where then shall we term residence?
But uh humanity come a few, hardly any hands
We lug this edifice down to ground,
And we put a new-fangled one in its place-
I discern that work is trouble-free
For work of the hands of man
Shall never last long into the future,
It can be ruined in a day, any time.

Live For the Moment, Be In the Present

Live for the moment, be in the present

Life is filled with ups and downs obviously
It is never a straight road as everyone wish
It is a bumpy ride with fast twists and turns
Hence instead of complaining and carping
Merrily live for the moment, be in the present.

Never ever contemplate on the future rosy
For one knows not what lies ahead in store
Nor needlessly brood over the bygone past
And repent for the actions compelled or not
Hence do not fritter away the precious now
Merrily live for the moment, be in the present.

Forgive and forget the denigrations suffered
Never ruminate on the wounds long-healed
For they may return and make you resentful
And spoil your mirth which sometimes visits
Hence make the most of the slippery delight
Merrily live for the moment, be in the present.

Thus savour each moment of life unruffled
That makes it a worthy living and profound
Least stirred about by several undercurrents
Those toss the boat vigorously but in vain
For one may get wet but never gets drowned
Merrily live for the moment, be in the present.

A Poem For Ife

The flames of passion cannot be quelled
Even though they were watered in a
World called cruel.
Searching for the word called fame
I seek out your name
In the pages of a book called flame,
Attraction, magnetism, together floss
A light called love is ignited.

Deep deep in the starry night,
The darkness yields to the consuming vital essence of
This light
Death a story
Life a reality…
Ties that bind
Love’s the tie,
Even though it seems non-existent,
For many don’t believe in it
And have lost faith in it.
Confused, they trod about life aimlessly
They sought for meanings
In the pages of books to define their lives,
Yet the answers are non-existent
And even if they are,
The answers fritter away in their very fingers.

Let’s not be blinded
Let’s not be fooled
True love exists somewhere
Waiting for us for us to grasp it
Let’s open our eyes widely to it
For it pieces hearts together.
Loves defines, love gives meaning to life
Heart pieced in unison
No matter how hard we try,
The bond keeps resurfacing
That’s the price of unity.

Premium Member . Passing By .

I've seen her there, most every day, rocking on the old front porch
She lives alone, I've often heard....she must get lonely on her perch
She watches the world passing her by...seeing her there,...just makes me sigh...
Sometimes I'm on my way to town, ...sometimes on my way to church
She's called out a word...inviting me in, ....but who has the time...? I'll just grin...
And wave a little....and then...I'll pretend I hadn't heard....is that so unheard of??
Well! Good grief....you see....I have things to do...important dates!!
Too much to do that cannot wait!!
If I were to hesitate...even for a minute...walk through her gate
Well...heavens to Betsy!! I might be late!!...
No...I couldn't stop.....! But I'll wave and smile....For heaven's sake!!
No time on my hands, to simply fritter away!
So I pass on by..don't miss a step....Don't look back, feeling no regrets!

It's my day's journey...I really must scurry...I hurry away, not a backwards glance
Perhaps another day...then, we'll see......Perhaps another chance, when I'm free...

But then....oh dear, how would I know, you see, life passed her by,
And when it was over....well....."that was that!"
But my ears still ring out...from her calling me "Please come in and sit a spell"....
Well.....I must not dwell...what is past is past...

Yet......I don't understand....what's the matter with people??
You see.....I've been rather unwell.....under the weather....Oh, ...it's a bother!
I'm too sick to go out, ...too sick to walk....but no one will stop to sit and talk
What's the matter with people??? Don't they care??
I called out to a friend...but she went on her way....she passed on by
Like I wasn't there....
          Why doesn't anyone care??????

Diffrent Agenda

Mud cookies
        Swallowed,
        Under
        Punishing sun.
        Cramp
        Dampness
        Termination,
        New day has begun.
        Perplexed
        Deprived hunger,
        I fritter away
        Enclose fun.
       Unbalanced

       The Devil has won.

Every man made thing is 'made in China'

Everything I buy to touch or taste
is made in China, made in China
leave alone my china set, even my toothpaste
is made in China, made in China.

From my pencils to my stencils
to the golden locks on my stylish lockers
all bore labels of 'made in China' in block capitals
and that explains thriving doorbell hawkers.

And for 'economical' me, stuff made in China
does hold a lot of frugal charm
Comes all the way from China, my granny's parka
About 'made in China' I've never had any qualms.

And because I don't intend to fritter away
hard-earned savings on any frippery
for 'made in china' alone shall my purse'n' pocket pay
and don't they play their part perfectly,
both my 'made in China' stereo and frisbee?

And all that 'made in China cutlery and crockery
is just as fragile and breakable as any other
All my life I've stuck to made in China stationery
and their costs haven't been any exorbitant so far.
L
I have seen latest High quality samsung Chinese cellphones
My TV a longlasting decade old, yes chinese Hitachi brand
You can wisely avoid debts and loans
purchasing brand new grand stuff from
the Chinese land

And then to my surprise I discovered
that many people both here and abroad
tended to buy things made in the land of the Great Wall
for similar reasons: esp they're easier to afford.

Ah, I don't like the idea of squandering away
or thoughtless wasting of wealth
No one could ever make a spendthrift out of me
For that would be unhealthy for budget health!

To refrain from prodigality and unfeeling extravagancy
'made in China' seems to me the solution
Let millionnaires make-believe that only the costly has quality
for I ain't gonna buy that pricey notion!

Premium Member Masks

Observe and see
Open your eyes
So many masks

Quick change of face
New mask to veil
Mood swing

Fake can seem true
If only you see
Through the charade

Just to survive
Hypocrisy grows
A fake face here

So many reasons
To fritter away
Authentic feel

Fear works the best
To kill fond zest
Death of innocence

Abrupt realisation
Survive amid harshness
Bondage to the flesh

Appetites corrupt
Never enough dough
Vain wish list stakes

What Is Freedom

What is freedom?
Is it to knock about the world
Bolt-hole,no serfdom?
Is it to fritter away
Sweat-embellished money,
Just to trounce boredom?
Is it to cross all the boundaries,
Spout off unwary,
Exposing solipsistic odium?
No?
Then,
What is freedom?

In this fastpace world,we demand for freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of movement, freedom of belief. But making these demans, tge true essence of feel of freedom is long gone.

Long Nosed Earthy Bookworm Knows Bout Angler Saxon

Long nosed earthy bookworm knows 'bout Angler Saxon

Shell yours truly share hook line
and sinker, regarding how I nearly
fell prey to off fish shill
doom for umpteenth time?

Ya haint got no choice... to late,
cuz eyes already clicked bait,
though don't worry be happy fate
will find thee enjoying poetic tête-à-tête
rhyming Hors d'oeuvres
ain't no Shakespearean literary great

expert, nonetheless might interest
with special Labor Day rate
absolute zero charge courtesy
to mollycoddle principally
as figurative paypal pit tate
ting gently massaging your pate

anyway don't get doggies in a dimple
yawping personal ambition
of this doggone puppy not to create
literary accomplishment appraised great
merely to fritter away time possibly
unexpectedly, unknowingly,
unwittingly... titillate.

Herewith follows "FAKE" off fish hill
anecdote without wallowing
in self pity and deemed gill
tee of slimy overkill,
whereby fisherman seeks likes of me,
who favors lollygagging
within Brooklyn rill

frequented by Jack and Jill
ice cream in vain
when riled, poked, nabbed...
courtesy angler England Bill
unaware his carping cavil
never fooling this ever will
fill squiggly... d'ya phylum me?

As proud Annelida where trawler
(accompanied with boating mate)
blithely tosses yours truly into catcher's
reel tin can - grim fate
ah, but survival skills include
ability to regenerate

in thee event mine body electric rotate
headed, chopped, perforated, segmented...
evening, increasing, licking... odds
laughing to myself, which doth not abate,
cuz I outsmarted, thus aye state
with modesty if perchance just a sliver

lopped off, destiny cannot eliminate
opportunity not to agitate,
but rather duplicate, replicate
unisexual worman hood
without need to feign
being irate, thus
pretend to equivocate.
