Bright stars shine in night skies
Like bangles, baubles and beads
Puts a twinkle in every girl's eyes
Like a gift of fine jewelry
A pair of sun stone earrings
Presented to the daughter I love
Some expensive fatherly bling
The price for her, one hug
Red copper reflecting inclusions
Dark middles fade to light edges
An adventurine feldspar illusion
Perfect for eternal love pledges
Turquoise blue or teal green schiller
Either one is an eye to heart thriller

The black-as-widow’s-weeds night of endless stars
was so cold...
cruel as temperature
plunged its frigid fingers feeling through my being
fondling my heart and soul without mercy
molesting me - taunting my will to live
and just when I thought
the ice water in my shivering veins would kill me
there she was
she came shyly at first
demurely spreading
her pinkening skirts over the horizon
while her blushing complexion
deftly gelded the darkness
I prayed-I pleaded-I made deals
(with who? you don’t want to know..)
that her warming smile would be my saving grace…
It began to slowly dawn on me
as she flexed her sinewy heat waves
flaunting her solar power
that I was caught
between false hope and no deliverance
for the desert sunrise-to-sunset
now faced-off and challenged me
with barren bone-dry intensity
sucking dry the new dew
and any life
containing moisture
weathered granular remains
of ancient feldspar and quartz
with eons of sifting and shifting boredom
took on a hell-raising life of their own
as the fire-breathing celestial sorceress casted spells
of smoke and mirror mirages
and magically made ridges of rippling blond sands
glisten like scales of a million skimming sidewinders
writhing in joy at my agony—
it’s amazing
how cold I feel when I have been so burned
again I face a desolate night
— deserted —
without a blanket

Widow’s Weeds: For women of 19th century England, a custom of mourning that involved wearing heavy, concealing, black clothing and the use of heavy veils of black crepe. The entire ensemble was colloquially known as ‘widow’s weeds’.

Celestial chandeliers, strung aloft the Milky Way
Aligning as constellations, invisible by light of day
Torches burning, that the sun prevents us to behold
Earth's luminaries ignite as dusk begins to unfold
Yielding glitter more lustrous than flecks of feldspar
Evoking optimistic wishes from those near or far
Magnificently they sparkle on a black background
Alight are these orbs, as jewels they are crowned
Revealing to all that life holds abundant treasure
Beyond any value, their worth far beyond measure
Lending us such clear vision, as through a cat's eye
Exquisite marbles are the stars in the midnight sky
Sparkling in the heavens, fulgid light for you and I

Collecting rocks on a summer’s day, I marveled at the sparkles I see as I turn them over. The sun and I are smiling at the glitzy glamor we notice. I pick them out of the forest deep, and wash them in the tiny brook that meanders through in the prettiest, softest, sweetest way. Fascinated by the prettiness I find, I cannot help but wonder if I am their first human contact. This delights me and the sun.
feldspar in my rock
glitzy diamond like relief
proof of loving god

Celestial Lullaby
Ponder~glimmering crystals...
Ride a gossamer cloud....
Sip a twinkling feldspar sky...
Hearken to God's lullaby...
Rest your head on His hand....
Sleep in harmonic serenity...

Rock forms reigning in the sea
Cast semiprecious imprints
As beach stones bathe and gleam.
Feldspar glitter glows gently
Over mica crystalline
As rock forms reign in the sea.
Pebbles play in the sea
Leave sand-filled footprints
As beach stones bathe and gleam.
Stones and bones wade free
Dancing cold-skinned past
Rock forms reigning in the sea.
Brownstone bodies lie in sleep
Then dawn swims in
As beach stones bathe and gleam.
Beach stones bathe and gleam
While day-star rays shine on
Rock forms reigning in the sea.

Juxtaposed with emerald green shamrock
and flowers of yellow and cinnabar.
In my garden sits a red granite rock,
set with flecks of quartz, mica, and feldspar.
Butterflies are attracted to its salts,
and once, I spied an indigo-blue one.
A masterpiece, Mother Nature exalts;
this living sapphire shimmered in the sun.
Adorn with gold filigree fit for kings,
it stood poised on that rock, flexing its wings.

Serendipity, pollywog, persnickety, lemon, hog and peach
For these words I like to use I will give you six cents each.
Onward and upward, supercalifragelisticalidocious I like too.
Feldspar, polka dot, sapphire, nonsensical, jubilation to name a few.
Writing poetry gives me the opportunity to play other special words.
And others I like- like candelabra, stalagmite, stalactite and blackbirds.
Many times, I wake up at three a.m. hearing lines of a poem in my head.
I wonder if this will continue after I am supposed to be dead,

Despite the pulsing pirouette of urban thresholds,
coruscating catalyst amid detachment,
of golden spoke carousel magnetism,
circle-shape swivel platform roundabout,
that spreads incipient wish fulfilment caper,
as townscape dweller devotee who revels,
in gargantuan silver tinged mineral rush,
of prodigious scoop simolean ascent,
whilst duty bound vociferation from the margins,
will enlist majestic magnanimity befitting,
one of fundamental fortunate flair such as I,
yet one’s habitat has been subject to gauche portrayal,
shelter from Olympic speed amorphous target setting,
where serenity in its multi form expression predominates,
as insidiously potent though urban zeitgeist is,
the off peak bonhomie provided by one’s abode,
must underpin a validating resonant counterfoil,
that lustrous seam jewel-embedded notion,
commonly referenced as unswerving loyal cabal,
though hybrid nuanced fusion on request,
is such an option for assiduous assimilation,
there is no hint or faint suggestion in the slightest,
that one should jettison endearing aspects of street esprit,
and the cataclysmic upsweep inherent in its brief,
the adrenalin so integral for buoyant enterprise,
deep equanimity and raucous daring should coexist,
and not a juxtaposed anathema that clashes,
they converge on several sprouting plots,
contrary to glib assumption blindly trending,
to be unflappable should not imply a bland persona,
effervescent office tumult wayfarer,
still quite the icon in yoga leaning domed quarter,
diffusing stored exuberance in feldspar chip backyard,
where gorgeous inlaid stream’s sunlit gurgle,
is that interfaced amalgam as companions,
from a myriad of disciplines beehive swarm,
to absorb one another’s acrobatic zest,
and synthesise its hub with meditation’s equilibrium,
mantra magic mediating mirthful mayhem,
yet inveigling a crimson ribbon of tranquilness,
to mingle with a whirlpool suction entropy,
in an atmospheric crucible of nonchalant ferment

Granite; dark with quartz
and royal with feldspar
polished with stars and ghosts
its brother Marble
cool with drops of scented water
proud for veiled eyes
Chalk; full of dead white fish
rings of old life
Slate for a roof under Northern rain
Jade for a burned queen
hot and stripped of arms
A cycle of rock, an old crag
shouting through the mist.

Silent lake secrets of a summer’s evening
Beyond meadow’s grasses, rustled in bits of expectation
Light sparkle of reflected diamonds dance on shimmery pond
Cool clear waters delighting the heart of Sister Raccoon and Brother Opossum
Devoted forest trees stand guard at her edges
Shrouded in astral Godliness, meadow mystique
Surrounded by flames of sky diamonds and their mystical promises.
There is a breathless expectation remnant on this bank.
Illumed by Luna’s prophetic power
Whispers of astral shaman and wise woman
Surround Woman Who Dares in wondrous moonlight.
She closes her eyes, appreciating their sacred melodies
Nostalgic moon dance of Lakota ancestors fills her memory
Ambivalent feelings and glints of tenderness surround her
As she meditates on the hill of her sacred kin
Father Owl is waiting to give his signal if there is danger
Silhouette shadow of ancient ghostwalker
Carefully listens to his goddaughter’s chanting, feeling nostalgic.
“Wah Yah Whee Hah, Wah, Yah, Hah,” her chant echoes.
Her mother and father join him. “It’s time,” they all agree.
Receiving her spirit message, a young brave awakens
Knowing he must head toward the pond and her silken grasses.
Urgencies of his ancestors and ebbing moon tides command it.
Ambivalent feelings and glints of tenderness surround him.
He is not from Woman Who Dares tribe,
But from a close proximity. He has lightness of foot.
Brother wolf, her power animal, waits for the signal,
But Brother Owl does not give it, watching with interest.
Man Who Would has been sent by moonbeam heart song.
Illumined by Ancient Ghostwalker’s ancestors.
Stars feldspar bright greet him on his sky travel.
Woman Who Dares senses him and chanting stops.
He is the most handsome brave she has ever seen.
He smiles, and she sees strength of bear, making her breathless.
Feels tenderness from his eyes as he gets nearer.
Recognizing him instantly from her night visions.
Their eyes meet again for the thousandth time, recognizing memories.
Bedazzled, they know each other instantly, devoted through many lifetimes.
Man Who Would and Woman Who Dares, together again.
Brother Owl hoots his approval. Wolves howl. Grasses cheer.

And I am waiting for the ghost of that opaque veil,
called transformation.
one day it will soften into that rock
of dinosaur thoughts,
like mineral olivine as it marches
from feldspar to the finality of quartz,
melting that ancient pattern weary consciousness into the butterfly awakening
of a multidimensional man,
who can only soar
like the eagle.

The professor carries me into his science lab and washes me off in the sink.
Dang! This water is cold!
“Granite, feldspar, a bit of hematite,” He says on Monday, explaining me to a class.
He does this over and over with many classes during the week.
I scream “He used me to kill his wife!” but no one in college speaks rock.
“You are an evil professor!” I yell at him.
No one hears me.
So I keep his secret in silence.
Angry as hell at him.

Personification
Rocks appease me like nothing else can. Best of all, they are cheap, all over the place and the best price.
A born die-hard rock enthusiast, I love hard ones, smooth ones, speckled ones, and crumbly ones.
I enjoy their look, their touch, and sometimes the sounds they make when I hold them to my ear.
Discern feldspar from granite? Sure, but it is usually in it. Bloodstone from amber? Of course I can.
If I keep the beryl long enough, I’ll have a big hunk of emerald, but we are talking dynasties.
Give me something harder please, a new challenge, a stone I have never seen before.
Labs are creating new ones all the time? Oh, goody.
I graduated from rocks to gemstones; it was a natural progression.
Chrysoprase, opals, rubies, and moonstones are my personal favorites.
Occasionally an emerald or topaz calls to my heart, and I add it to my collection.
Unfortunately, my tastes are a little more expensive now, but I still bring home the free ones.

tryst of the moon and the stars
- oh how far
off, when the greed of war
spoils with feldspar.
eruptions of not the loins
but clashes of steel —
political coins
care not how one feels.
a lightning grip on lovers,
mocking, celebrating their aloneness.
the dark hovers
over the waters of Loch Ness.
spouse weeps.
tears constantly fill
the freshwater deep.
the warmonger monster would’st kill.
any great and honorable name
that can be caught in the web —
her man would never be the same,
adrift in the ebb.
she tries to reattach limbs,
pry open his hopeful eyes,
fish for him with sermons and hymns
but he believes in Nessie-lies.
tryst of the moon and stars
-oh how far
off, when the greed of war
spoils with feldspar.
