Best Errant Poems
Seeing through the wav’ring flame of light
your porc’lain skin your brazen eyes so fair,
the songs which stir the depth of frosty night
do not waylay the course of love’s despair.
For love of King, not I, thine heart’s declared.
Oh, I am damned by wanton deed bespoke
on Furies wings my cursed heart’s ensnared
and in the fire we shall rise on smoke.
My love I’ll not rescind, nor Him provoke.
Beside your sleeping form our bed a pyre,
the curtain's caught in candle flame once stoked,
we’ll go to Holy Hell within the fire,
a martyred Queen, an errant Knight so blind
for Kings and common men are seldom kind.

An Errant Balloon
I saw a balloon yesterday.
Then I saw another again today.
Floating along on a sunshine ray
wending on its way.
Where did it come from? No one knows
where will it go? where the wind blows.
Did it escape from a small child’s hand?
or is it a memory of something grand?
A Wedding perhaps? Or a departed good friend
who will meet up again round some far away bend
what is it’s story? I wonder aloud
As it floats along in the lee of a cloud
Perhaps I could guess, but I won’t even try.
Just lift my hat and wave goodbye

An errent divinity-
And I assured you I would try;
In words, not simply put,
but on the words it does rely;
Of the aspects I am sure-
I trusted and respected you from the start,
For you stood up for me-
When they were bound to break my heart.
Again, you hadn't yet known me,
loyalty you've forever shown me.
You had an ear out-
and had the ability,
with such simplicity-
To make it all clear to me;
The first to actually hear me.

If I ate chocolate naked
While lounging on red satin sheets
Beneath the light of a pale autumn moon
Amidst a Smokey glaze of heavily perfumed incense
With no else to admire the sight,
Would you then pay attention to me?
If I cursed you
Taking myself into a burning house
That had no windows and only one door
Out in the middle of the desert
Miles away from nowhere
With no else in the world to be frightened for me,
Would you then rescue me from myself?
What will it take to bring you back?
My husband, my lover, my torture,
How long will it take for you to realize
That I am dieing?
Dieing to be touched, to be loved,
Dieing for compassion, for some passion,
This girl you fell in love with
Is going to fade away
Unless you stop this petty selfishness,
And save Her!...
I am an errant firefly
That some child has caught,
And locked in a jar.
If this lid doesn't come off,
I will be dead by morning.

I look into my mirror
And inside I feel aghast,
Once I had flawless skin,
Those days have long since past.
My hair, lank and grey
Was once a shock of curls,
Everybody used to say
I was the prettiest of the girls.
Heading for my dotage
No fun left it seems,
Memories though, sweet memories,
I still have my dreams.
And oh such dreams they are
Of lovers, and romance,
Not a boy could pass me by
Without a second glance.
And how I played the field
The parties, and the balls,
I dined in swanky houses,
I danced in stately halls.
Now here I sit alone
Just pondering on my days,
Have I paid the price?
Yet I loved my errant ways.

A misnomer of mine
The splash of ink
Which smears the page
On my priceless artwork
Over which I toiled and slaved
Now leaves it’s mark on my perfect page
I forever have grumbled
And complained
“Can’t I ever finish
Without that smudge on my work
To diminish?!!!!”
Seems as I have grown older
I’ve become less aware of
Those small imperfections
And focus more on the works I strive for and
Complete
For even the greatest artists concede
They too have had
Moments of doubt
And then reprieve
It’s all about the journey
Not the smudge on your sleeve.

Errant Ways Are Transparent
We never understood why ways are errant,
Then could tell by them being transparent;
Close and near,
As well as clear,
And they also had appeared to be apparent.

EMBARRASSED
Our limit of endurance
Doesn't always show appearance
Sometimes our often ignorance
Doesn't give us reassurance
So it surely is apparent
That we may be incoherent
When we know our way is errant
And we are much too transparent
We end up in a cluster
At the smallest we can muster
Or we begin to bluster
About our losing luster

When and how
did we see chivalry last
or is it now
a thing of the past
and honour among thieves
is no honour at all
while beating my brains
against the wall
besting the dragons
at City Hall
am I wrong in thinking
it's my fight
or am I errant
as a roving knight
exhibiting gallantry
within a crowd
of apathy
indifferent
to the powers that be
outnumbered and outgunned
Sancho when needed oh where is he?
With apologies to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547 – 1616)
